This is yet another comment that I wish could be modded beyond a 5. Good job for such a witty comment on how this has turned into a witch hunt. And if I may contribute to this discussion with an argument that has been proposed before yet not enough know about it: go after people who have actually committed child abuse or sexual offenses. Who cares if some pedophile has child porn? If anyone goes to a hentai site, they may actually have an idea of the amount of people jerking it to loli. Hell, the Barely legal magazines and similar sites are a clear reminder of how many men are attracted to underdeveloped women. The law is not here to persecute people who are likely to commit a true crime, it's here to persecute those who have. If we continue to press charges like these, we may as well start rounding up those who go through too much violent media (sound familiar?).
I know nothing about photography, so could someone tell me how is it so difficult to accomplish that grainy piece of crap? I'm not trolling or anything, but when they said incredibly detailed, I was expecting a high-res photo that allows you to see the crew from the windows.
While we're at it, lets also ban drugs, that way, we'll never see them on our streets again!... Oh wait, we do. The only thing this will accomplish is an advocacy of piracy. Do you really think passionate gamers aren't going to turn to the torrents to get their fix? Keep dreaming you simple-minded jackasses.
The fact is, science shows that the child is a distinct lifeform from its mother from the moment of conception
Precisely, the embryo happens to be a single celled organism. If mankind found a way to turn any single celled organism into a human child, would you ban antibiotics because they're all potential babies? Sorry, but it's got a little bit of development to go through before it's a human in my eyes. How human a fetus can be is still up for debate, and it should be a woman's responsibility to get a pregnancy test as fast as possible if she doesn't want a baby.
Did any of you even read the summary? Does anyone here even know the jurisdiction of the department of homeland security? Just to clarify something for any of you presumptuous douche bags, this has to do with the Slashdot articles that you have read (assuming you've even looked at the title) that involve China and highly sensitive US data gone missing. This is to protect that data and any intrusion that could happen in the future. Quite frankly, it's embarrassing that anyone managed to get a hold of that data, and it better not happen on this president's watch.
the key to making a real difference lies in how you can control the game
No the key difference is to make easy to handle the control. The Wii was successful because it reached out to a new market (i.e. people who don't play video games because it's too difficult/expensive). You can still make use of buttons alone and accomplish that (for example: guitar hero). I personally think that they should go the route of integration with the PC. It could be multipurpose to speed up PC games as well, and I'd much rather play halo 4 or halo wars with a mouse rather than wave some wand at the screen. If you leave out the games that require integration and time to appreciate, PlayStation 4 will undoubtedly dominate that niche.
Actually, 'B' had the right to produce copies for profit. 'A' simply gave it away. To clarify as to why I think "piracy" is fine is because the major record label company happen to be the thieves. You see, 'c' said, "I like your stuff 'b', I'll go ahead and give it to the rest of the alphabet for a profit that you'll only see a fraction of. Then I'll flip out when I don't get even richer from sitting on my ass, cause I'll be damned if I can get richer and I don't."
Given that, I would expect this hardware - if it proves useful - would primarily be in the "entertainment" sector of the market.
Not really. Any simulations that are influenced by natural chaos would greatly benefit from this. Examples include engineering simulations of products that must have robust preventions of system failures, pharmaceutical simulations of chemical reactions that may have natural anomalies, statistical research that depends on many unknowns, stalk market predictions that depend on such statistical research, evolutionary algorithms that thrive on error, and it can even serve as supplemental calculation for AI to learn how to deal with new and unexpected occurrences. Like I said this processor has a whole new niche of its own, and it may come standard in a pc like the GPU.
There are countless applications for a computer that don't depend on accuracy, but do depend on speed. For example: gaming, stock analysis, scientific/mathematical research etc. Just about every use for the computer can benefit from this. Bear in mind these applications can take the hit of inaccuracy, if not benefit from it depending on the situation. Yes there are some instances were accuracy is crucial, but that's why they will continue to make both of the processors. It's what they call a free market, and there will be always be a new niche to fill.
I'm sorry to say this but Obama is quite right to do such a thing. While we are all screaming "terrorists or the middle east might destroy us", bear in mind that they are not using anything near to space age weaponry. And while you think that their first priority is to slay all of the west, bear in mind that every/any head of an aggressive religion has one priority: power. There is no exception (please tell me one). So wouldn't it make sense that the second we put the Taliban out of power that they stopped giving a shit about us? As easy as it would be to set off a car bomb in a completely unguarded crowded building (too many to name), the leaders would much more prefer to get their old power back (hence it makes sense to stay in Afghanistan). Any other leader of any other country isn't going to nuke us because they know we well pummel them into oblivion. The only reason their government incite hate against us is because they need a scapegoat as to why they live like shit. We would win the "war on terror" if the right information got to the citizens and they found out their government is the reason they live like shit. Imagine that, a victory without space age weaponry. Guess diplomacy is actually worth a shot huh?
The Pedophiler laughs in the face of danger, MWAHAHAHA *twirls mustache* *adjusts monocle*
But in all seriousness, I felt I needed to point out that you really can't stop the supply of "child porn" without seriously infringing on our rights (and I mean hardcore middle eastern rights infringement, not the pussy liberal infringement we're still going through). In any case, I fail to see why people correlate sexual orientation with nurture more than nature. I wanted to point out through the use of satire that there is no "fuel" for the despicable actions of sexual offenders, other than the existence of children itself. I guess I did go a bit over-board seeing as it flew over some peoples' heads. I also feel the need to point out that this really is a witch hunt where the pedophiles are seen as some evil villains. In earlier centuries, it was normal for a 15 year old girl (sometimes younger) to get married. Personally, if she does it consensually, then it's none of my business as far as I'm concerned. However our society is still seeing sexual oppression reminiscent of Britain's Victorian era, where you could literally hang for being a slut.
Forgive my double post, but I, the evil Pedophiler has just captured a government agent and am about to reveal my insidious plan! *Adjusts monocle* Little does the government know that as we speak, I am gathering pictures to fuel my latest creation, The Pedo-Beam(TM). This ingenious device shall allow me to rape and kill children AT THE SAME TIME!! Mwahahaha. This weekend, I shall acquire the jackpot of all pictures to fuel the sexual rage in my device: a baby shower! Yes, with those hot nude children in my possession, I shall rape and kill all the children in the local elementary school! MWAHAHAHAHAHA!!
*HISSS* Curse your resourcefulness US government! You have ruined the plans of me, the evil(TM) Pedophiler! Now I shall have to resort to new phone-independent cameras with their accursed proficiency in range and resolution, like all the normal pedophiles. I'll get you yet! *Twirls mustache* And your little children too!
I have yet to see one decent long-term experiment to this day that truly checks if video games should have to suffer the scrutiny of parents. I'm talking about one lasting decades checking on the same patients from a very early age, setting up multiple controls, and then having multiple upbringings with different video games played routinely to rule out any other factor that may contribute to the future behavior of the child. It should be one where the patient does not know he/she is being observed, and one that does not allow for any biased results. Up to date, no one has come ANYWHERE NEAR. Please prove me wrong if I am. Until then, please stop talking out of your ass and STFU. The government is not responsible for taking care of your kids.
I hope he gets Spike's character of "I'm too lazy to land an enthusiastic blow so I'll use some wicked aikido" rather than his typical character of "I'm too cool to exert myself so I'll use some slack-ass tactic". At least we can count on Hollywood to find some actress that will match Faye's rockin' tits.
This is obviously long-term, as the food problem for short-term missions has already been solved (bring snacks). Radiation levels are reduced, but still much higher in space. I honestly don't know why people are looking at colonizing space before they do the ocean.
I know this conversation is a bit past its shelf life, but I felt the need to share a bit more about my opinion. The main reason I think your child should not play GTA is because of the moral corruption, not the violence. If there should be a warning on games, it should read, warning: children do not come with the knowledge of the moral implications of their actions. That being said, it's damn near impossible to keep such media from reaching your child (as the porn DVD has shown you). If you do have some time to spare, you should do some research on video games with reasonable violence that rewards "good" actions such as diplomacy, and downplays violence to be only a last resort for defending, since it could loose you potential allies. I would highly recommend that you purchase "Black and White 2", and sit down with him and make sure that he attempts to become a benevolent (as opposed to malevolent) deity. It's similar to how my dad got me a playboy magazine when I was younger. I know it sounds controversial, but my dad explicitly chose a magazine that simply had beautiful topless women in dignified poses with no text on sex. I honestly think there's no harm in nudity, but there is in the strong sexual content that is scattered throughout the web, and that magazine kept me from looking for it for a long time (believe me he WILL stumble upon it). I know you'll most likely want to continue debating (and probably chew me out for telling you how to raise your kid), so just add me to your friends list on slashdot and we can continue via email.
I don't think that your child should play GTA. In my initial post, I was clear to state a young enough child will simply imitate what is done on the video game. What I am saying is that in my view (as a student in progress to becoming a scientist), the results are inconclusive as to whether or not aggressive behavior can stem from violent video games. I have yet to see a decent controlled experiment that has lasted up to a year (though in my opinion it should last decades to be 100% conclusive) that has many different conditions to rule out any other factor (as well as a control) that hands down points in one direction. To be fair, I haven't looked, but my psychology teacher (who agrees with me) keeps me posted on these kinds of things, and brings up interesting experiments quite frequently into conversations. I'll make sure to inquire if anything new has come up, but I doubt it. Either way, we are not at a point where we can start allocating tax dollars on this crap. Also, we're not at the point where we should be sewing companies based on this (my main source of anger at these experiments), especially not when it is the responsibility of parents to control what influences their children, and I think we can both agree on this.
I'd have to say alcohol is the solution to saving our planet. As a very short friend of mine once said, all you have to do is:
1. Drink excessive amounts of liqueur
2. ???
3. ???
Irish Domain Registry Banning Porn Sites
So they're getting rid of the internet?

feature number:
1) overpriced marketing and DRM
2) ???
3) profit!
(seriously seems like their advertising campaign is run my underpants gnomes. And their developers too)

There is another choice besides steel wool. I'll explain it under-pants gnome style:
1) make an elaborate tower of desecrated rat corpses
2) ???
3) net profit

Since this will soon be illegal, please allow me to say it: FUCK THIS STATE
Ironically, it will be legal to say that in secessionville. Doesn't sound so stupid now does it?
