    You are partly right with your statement, what your missing is two words: "look" and "like". Admitedly they do catch some but that is not the really important thing. What's really important to them is to make the general public think they are exceptionally motivated to catch terrorists. Very few of the things enacted since 9/11 have actually made us safer, they've only made most of the people feel safer, and making people feel safer will get a politician re-elected. It's also very easy to make people think they are safer by the loss of some of their freedom, because if their liberty is hindered so is those that wish them harm. Witch is a logical fallacy, those that wish harm to law abiding citizens aren't following the same rules. They don't care about what laws are passed.

    I grew up in an area where that exact scenario could happen. In that situation you call for the ambulance to meet you at the nearest mile marker, then either transport the injured person there or guide the ambulance back. If the teens are not willing to call an ambulance they were probably breaking a law/rule and didn't want to get caught. I guarantee if an ambulance was called out to the site of an injury at a camp of nothing but teens there will be a cop/ranger/sheriff showing up as well.

The big problem today is if you did that to your kid, especially in public, you'd probably be thrown in jail for child abuse. I see things on a daily basis that my parents would not have put up with being tolerated by parents. I still don't understand why corporal punishment became so bad, it kept me out of trouble on more than one occasion just from the threat of it.

Same goes for trying to play it with anything other that iTunes. I went through all of them in under a half an hour and still couldn't play the song from the iPod. Those "big ole asterisk" that you mention are not anywhere on the original document. They only came into being less than 100 years ago when "Political Correctness" became such a big deal. You mention Hate Speech as not being covered by Freedom of Speech. There you are wrong, the only time that your Freedom of Speech can/should be withheld is if with that speech you incite the violation of another citizens rights, and there is nothing in the Bill of Rights about not getting you're feelings hurt. On the other hand the Bill of Rights also doesn't protect you from the consequences of said speech. If that means you are arrested for disturbing the peace or beat down for offending someone, you still had the right that speech. As for the Right to Bear Arms/*Fully Automatics, that one just doesn't make sense to me. I personally see nothing wrong with people who want or own Full Autos, as long as they have them legally. The Second Amendment gives Law Abiding Citizens the right to own weapons. Every time a ban makes it to the SCOTUS it's been deemed Unconstitutional. What this means is that they can control who has what weapons but cannot ban them. All bans on weapons(guns or otherwise) have done throughout history is create a victim society, mainly due to the fact that the people they are trying to keep from getting said weapons will have them anyways. They aren't going to care that they aren't supposed to have them.

If so, why would we need to make emergency laws to deal with it? Seems to me that things like the Patriot Act and other reactionary laws like it are just to make people feel safer, not actually make them safer. That's what it all comes down to, making people "Feel Safe". Would any of the things from the Patriot Act have made a difference for 9/11? Maybe, maybe not. All any of these laws that are "supposedly" keeping us safe are like DRM, it makes things harder for all of the legitimate law abiding people to do what they have a right to do.

    You both bring up very good points, but what it comes down to is this: Will teaching it, whether as philosophy, science, religion or any other subject, affect how it is viewed in the rest of the world? Check here Intelligent design - Wikipidia It's about half way down that these quotes come from;

    In June 2007 the Council of Europe's "Committee on Culture, Science and Education" issued a report, The dangers of creationism in education, which states "Creationism in any of its forms, such as 'intelligent design', is not based on facts, does not use any scientific reasoning and its contents are pathetically inadequate for science classes".

    The status of intelligent design in Australia is somewhat similar to that in the UK. When the former Australian Federal Education Minister, Brendan Nelson, raised the notion of intelligent design being taught in science classes, the public outcry caused the minister to quickly concede that the correct forum for intelligent design, if it were to be taught, is in religious or philosophy classes.

    What I get from that is that Most of the world does not see ID as science, and other than Muslim Countries and religious organizations/followers that feel threatened by any thing that might question the word of leadership(religious or otherwise), it is seen as religion/philosophy. I haven't found anything about how most Asian Countries view it and it would be interesting to see, mainly because as far as I know they are leading the world in Math and Science Education. Maybe, just maybe we should try and regain our spot at the top by following their example.
