I think there may also be restrictions on what you can write out to DVD as well. On the TiVo forums someone mentioned that they got a message saying that they could not burn a recorded NFL football game from last week to DVD.
It's called 'go over to the TV and hit the Off button'. Why do you need a gizmo to do it? Is the TV too high? Stand on a chair and do it. You have nothing to hide, do you? The TV is annoying you! You're trying to eat dinner! You obviously think you're above everyone else already, so why not just blatantly shut it off in front of everyone instead of hiding behind an unneccessary device?
Hey! You're not the same guy who posts to TV-related stories that television is crap and that you don't even own a television and look how much better off you are? Are you?
Yeah, the NYT registration annoys me too, but I think that the right thing to do is to post the NYT link itself. If they want to require a lame registration, then they should be able to do so. If people have no problem with it, then they can put in their username/password and read the article through NYT's preferred channel. If people do have a problem with it (like myself), then they can choose not to read the article or wait until someone posts the google link in the comments. The point is, is that the user can decide the route they want to take. If you put the google link in the original choice, you are automatically forcing upon people what you think is best, when in fact some people may not view it as a problem. I don't know, it still annoys the heck out of me anyway.
I thought so initially too, but then I realized that the image is only a TV with rabbit ears, with their logo inside. Pretty generic, really. Maybe the rabbit ear antennae are cocked in a similar fashion, but that's generally how they are set up in most cases.
I don't see any trademark problems at all. Maybe if they anthropomorphized the whole thing and added arms and feet and a smile...
No, seriously, I think (hope) that Zork is enough a part of computer lore that most (even younger) geeks would at least KNOW of it, having heard legend of these text-based adventure games back in the day.
If only you had fired it once more, you could have also prevented Leonard Nimoy from ever recording the incredibly frightening Ballad of Bilbo Baggins video. I swear, watching that thing has on more than one occasion made me want to take a phaser to myself, just so I would not have to carry on with the memory of those hippie vulcan/hobbit nymphs prancing about. *shudder*
A good list of some progressive rock concept albums. Got me thinking of a few other good ones: Genesis - The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick, Passion Play Peter Gabriel - Passions Yes - Tales From Topographic Oceans Porcupine Tree - In Abstentia Pain of Salvation - every album they've made Marillion - Brave Echolyn - Cowboy Poems Free
Actually going through my 300+ CD collection, I would say that I would consider 25% of them to have revolve around concepts or themes (though not all as blatantly as Spock's Beard - Snow, for example). I do love a good concept album.
It's the third week of a month that starts with 'J' and the last digit of the current year is odd, so that must mean that the above oft-used joke is funny again!;)
Looks like someone forgot to sign the online settlement in time... Hell, I'll give you my $13 if you'll stop being so bitter.
Everyone who signed the settlement was in effect saying that the music companies gouged the customers to some extent. Better that we were heard quietly, then to never have been heard at all.
I see no Dr. Pepper / Red Bull holders nor any place to set your half-eaten bag of Cheetos.
When will someone get it?
heh... Only on/. would this comment be considered "Insightful".
TiVo can be just like a VCR, if you really want
on
TiVo Basic
·
· Score: 1
It ought to be possible for the Tivo to act more like a VCR in this respect, but so far it hasn't happened.
I agree; this irritates me too. However, it can act JUST like a VCR if that's what you truly want. You can set up manual timer recordings in old-school VCR fashion. I do this with a couple shows that always start early or finish late, and I want to catch an overlapping show. So I just schedule two manual recordings from 7:59-8:31 and 8:31-9:00 for example. Not really a beautiful solution I guess, but it can be done.
I hear the argument that the way that musicians earn their living is mainly through touring. But what of studio-only musicians who don't tour (and there are some)? And there's certainly cases where a band takes a year off from touring in between studio albums (Spock's Beard, for example). Are we now saying that artists MUST tour in order to make money? What if they choose not to? Should they still not be able to make a living based on the work that they produced? It's sort of like if authors were forced to give speaking tours in support of their freely-given-away books.
I guess it's starting to look like artists and bands are going to be FORCED to tour to earn a living, and I think that the public may miss out on some great music that will never be made because of artists who only produce work and do not tour.
I think a fellow commenter said it best yesterday:
What the fuck? What the fucking fuck fuck!?
Yes. Pain of Salvation is an awesome band. I've loved all their albums, though I still haven't been able to get into their latest, Be.
Touché.

NOW do you worry about it affecting you?
Fucking. Nerds.

Be sure to drink your Ovaltine!

Don't forget the classic Videlectrix game: Thy Dungeonman II!!

Strong Bad owns.
I liked the "launch" button too. But you can double -click on the icon in the downloads window and it will launch it. Guess that works.

Instead of my usual rants about pretentious non-tv owners, now I just refer people here:

want to see how many times Sherlock Holmes talked about using cocaine? It's elementary!
;)
Now I'm actually curious... How many?
... it's not funny. ;)

Homestar Runner rules. Don't forget the Teen Girl Squad "404'd!!" when you go to a nonexistent page:

Gotta love it.

High-res? Really? Are you sure? Does anybody want to see high-res images of these guys?

The fact that I room with these guys and get to see them every day is pain enough. Leave it alone. Please.
