I've even grown sick of trying to get WoW to run in wine (granted, I tried on my old laptop with a 945GM chipset, which was notorious for linux incompatibility). I'd like to learn to set up a complete linux shop, but our engineers need AutoCAD software that I doubt would work in linux. Even if it did, we don't have the know-how in the company to set up all our customizations for it in anything but Windows. I'm excited for Windows 7. I hope our company migrates to it soon. XP is started to feel really dated.

Plus, the speakers are muffled, and this thing sounds GREAT with 4 harmon-kardon speakers and a subwoofer under it). I rarely see the design as it sits on my desk. A few cons to this particular model: the keyboard feels cheap, glossy, and flexes to the right towards the (not a con: full number pad). Quote: (yeah yeah.. commercials... blah blah blah.. its still free when it comes right down to it. it doesnt cost ME anything to listen to the radio.)

In reality, the companies paying for those advertisements in turn use revenue from an increase in price of their services and products to fund them. You, as a consumer, in turn purchase those services and products.

    Nothing is free.

I have no problem with paying a bit to support not only artists, but the production, promotion, and support of those artists done by record labels. However, I dislike the current methods of same labels.

I remember reading that when CDs were first promoted in the late 80s, promises were made that prices would drop, since the CD was so cheap to produce. Once publishers were able to cover start-up costs in purchasing new technologies, the actual disks would only cost pennies to press. Yet we still pay $15-25 for most CDs in stores.

I feel artists should receive the profits from the fruits of their labors. The labels give them loans to write and record an album, and once those loans are payed back (as well as the recuperation of production/publishing costs) then the album generates true profit, most of which should be returned to the artist.

I also feel that the artists should retain creative control and copyright to their work. As it seems to be now, they create beautiful works (well, the artists I choose to support do. IE: your favorite band sucks) but they cannot control it once it's in the hands of the labels. This situation makes me think of sweatshops: dirty, hungry children slaving away for pennies a day to create hundreds of thousands of pairs of your favorite $100+ sneakers.

Finally, I have no problem paying for music for these reasons: my favorite artists, unless they are mainstream like Slipknot or Opeth on Roadrunner Records, are usually distributed through European labels or American indie labels not associated with the RIAA. Therefore I usually don't support the labels that claim allegience to these thugs of the courtroom.

Whew! That got long-winded. TL;DR: stop calling it piracy, down with the RIAA, blah blah blah

I'm just saying that were I to get sued by the RIAA a year ago, I'd have been guilty. Now I have cleaned up my act... Helps though that the majority of music I download comes from Europe so I have a small percentage of files from an RIAA label, nor did I ever upload music, nor do I purchase music from RIAA labels (unless the album is worth it). That way I can breathe a little bit easier in this case.

My brother at university got a letter from the university staff about downloading, apparently somebody tracked it to him, but he only had to clean it off his hard drive to be clear, so I don't think it was the RIAA's usual strong-arm henchmen Media Defender who sent the letter...

But to be so willingly blind to give up rights and freedoms? Not only is that so un-American (my apologies if you live elsewhere), it is downright stupid. Look at our current administration (and past administrations). Do you *really* want to give them more and more control of your life?

Go watch or read 1984. Or if you're more into action movies, watch Equilibrium. Or real-world events: identity theft that leaves people forever indebted and tainted in the eyes of their friends and families, Tibet and the Chinese government's actions against it. There's more than enough reason to not give up freedoms and rights (and privacy).

Agreed with removing the pictures... the drivers should be able to turn off the camera, or at least log when they feel the pictures should be reviewed for removal (like when he says to himself "Oops, I'm in a driveway and pulled the 30 feet all the way in so much so that I can see inside this house!").
