  1. business v tech on Researcher Hacks Self-Driving Car Sensors · · Score: 1

Its the standard business versus technology model: Rush to market THEN consider the security and privacy implications.

  2. Got tax? on Apple Posts $18B Quarterly Profit, the Highest By Any Company, Ever · · Score: 1

How much tax did Apple pay (1% - 2%??)? I suspect these profits are the result of global accountancy practices that avoid paying tax in almost every country they operate in.

  3. It don't make sense on Did North Korea Really Attack Sony? · · Score: 1

The Korean government hacks a Japanese company and the U.S. are taking action over it. Say what? All this over a "movie" that hadn't even been released so Korea (or anyone) really knew the actual content. It's nuts to think a government would go to such lengths over something that wasn't released that could have been totally non-offensive. I could understand if some was pissed off AFTER it had been released, but not before. It's just too extreme for so many unknowns.

  4. Media storm on Reaction To the Sony Hack Is 'Beyond the Realm of Stupid' · · Score: 1

Looks like a media storm to increase sales for what looks to be a crappy movie.

  5. It gets depressing to think that even a device we purchase that we think is our own, someone wants to control under a BS law. We have no power or control over almost anything anymore (our homes, our cars, our music, our movies, nothing).

  6. Goodbye WCS on Financial Services Group WCS Sues Online Forum Over Negative Post · · Score: 1

Suing Whirlpool will have a much bigger negative impact on their business than any post would have. Goodbye WCS.

    And so it begins....

  8. At current trents.....bla, bla, bla. I think we all agree, that if we base it on current population growth and the current mindest of "just build more and bigger power stations" then the opitons are limited Whats overlooked in alomost every one of these "studies" funded by power companies is the decentralisation of power. Each household and business has the ability to conserve their power (insulation, efficent heating, etc), plus generate their own power (using solar, wind - where possible, regenative power). This model will remove the need for bigger and more power stations. The main issue with this model isnt changing peoples minds; its that under this decentralised model power companies would reduce or lose their profits. So the current model remains :(

  9. Linux on Torvalds: SteamOS Will 'Really Help' Linux On the Desktop · · Score: 1

Almost every gamer I know couldnt care less what o/s they are using as long as their games and "game related" programs run properly (Teamspeak, etc). They use Windows cause there is no other viable option now. With SteamOS all this would change. They would most likely prefer to run Linux and spend the money saved on more games. Bring it on!!

  10. International Law on NSA Hacked Email Account of Mexican President · · Score: 1

Surely this (and all the other NSA spying) must have broken international law? Its there anything happening at that level (or is it occuring and our media isnt keeping us informed)?

  11. Socialist Future on RMS: How Much Surveillance Can Democracy Withstand? · · Score: 0

Whats happeing now makes people in the industry uncomforable, at the least. Whats a real worry is what the future will be like. If it continues down the current path Democracy as we know it will be dead. Then welcome to a new model of socialism.

  12. Internet costs in Australia on The Ridiculous Tech Fees You're Still Paying · · Score: 5, Informative

Internet costs in Australia. Its not uncommon to pay around $70/month for ADSL 1 speeds (1.5Mbps).

  13. NSA on Adobe Hacked: Almost 3 Million Accounts Compromised · · Score: 1

Adobe appear to be so focused on pushing their "money making" business model (the no-one wants) they forget to secure their backend systems. I wonder what incentives the NSA give them to pipe the users details into PRISM?

  14. Still funded on No Upper Bound On Phone Record Collection, Says NSA · · Score: 1

How many actual "terrorists" have been caught using this technology? ....1? 2? As this form of "monitoring" has yeild no results in capturing actual "terrorists" then why is it still being funded? .

  15. Gone on Canadian Scientists Protest Political Sandbagging of Evidence-Based Policy · · Score: 4, Informative

  16. Markets on Did Apple Make a Mistake By Releasing Two New iPhones? · · Score: 3, Interesting

The 5S is aimed at the corporate and tech head market. The 5C is aimed at the "teens" and lower end market. Its long term strategy too, these phones will probe still being sold new in 2 years time like the 4S still is. So they need devices that teens will still want in 2 years (how about a new range of colours?) As for canibalising: its competing with itself - sometimes a good thing. Consumers think they have a choice, the 5C or the 5S. They will fail to realise that there are plenty of other options out there too, Samsung, HTC, Nokia, Sony, etc.

  17. Why all the fear around the fingerprint reader? Geez, the phone will simply take a pic of the users face with the front facing camera and send it off to the NSA with the persons details, wifi passwords, etc.

  18. II wonder how many illegal songs a 9yr old Russian kids has to download until they are extradited?

  19. Pay 10 cents extra on US States Banned From Exporting Trash To China Are Drowning In Plastic · · Score: 1

Spend the extra 10 cents and use materials for packaging that don’t cause this problem (like biodegradable materials). The manufacturer needs to step up to the plate and only offer these matrials just as the consumer must step up to the plate and only buy the same.

  20. What does it bring us? on US Spies Have "Security Agreements" With Foreign Telecoms · · Score: 1

Why is a system like this in place? Clearly its not the stop crime as crime rates dont reflect any noticable benefit, they have mostly remained constant for years (per capita). I would like to see what benefits this has brought to any country, basically justfying such a program.

  21. America on Woz Compares the Cloud and PRISM To Communist Russia · · Score: 1

America is "broken" and the rest of the world seems to clawing over itself to follow suit (with a few minor exceptions). Its depressing reading about the path our children "must" follow.

  23. Are they nuts? They should be putting time and effort into technology that will KEEP their existing customers not investing in technology that will push their customers away. Blame Pirate Bay, torrents, pirates, etc all they want, at the end of the day THEY really are their own worst enemy.

  24. Nice try on Flame Malware Authors Hit Self-Destruct · · Score: -1
