I have a question about how this works, money laundering is described thusly:
"By its nature, money laundering (as in the case of receiving stolen goods) is a form of acting as an accessory after the fact, - a material contribution to, or assistance in, taking benefits from assets of illegal origin."
It's my understanding that a bank is liable when they gain or take benefit from stolen goods. If Rapidshare is charging for the distribution of stolen goods, are they then gaining from assets of illegal origin?
Red Stripe Beer is still a better Holiday beverage for Santa at our house. I'd like to propose Red Stripe taking over for Coca-Cola and carrying this mantel. As a side-effect, The Polar Express could become a good deal more entertaining, too.
I have a new-ish house where there wasn't originally a phone line. I added AT&T service about a month ago and they have yet to bury it. It seems like they're not too serious about this issue.
cue/. superiority complex... Seriously, rather than tag as !news or PEBKAC, how about some intelligent discussion about either educating the general public or another more intelligent solution?
Sharing information under the false pretense of being your friend while actually informing on your activities and thoughts to the government is exactly what I would call spying and typical behavior of authoritarian government.
Why take a risk on a new market when you have an established one? Gaming companies are just as risk-averse as movie-makers are. If they think they have a formula that works, they will use it until it fails.
I can't wait for my new 60 million rpm hard drive! No I didn't RTFA, this is/. That said, I suspect translating this to an applied take a smidge longer than my life span.
Absolutely--mod this up. A higher percentage of internet users is also a factor. Controlling for this and somehow standardizing (logit, z-score or whatever) would be much more informative.
Unfortunately, probably both opinions are valid here. Concentration of power either by the government or a corporate power can lead to an abuse of power and censorship.

mod this up. I think this is perhaps the most insightful comment yet in this thread. I pay for my data--not yours.

Damn you, sir. Now Barney is on repeat in my head!
mod parent up. fire mods. damn... I need to be doing meta-moderation more often.
It looks like they've only been awarded about 10, based on google patent search engine.
Yesterday I thought we were planning on getting rid of DNS... huh.
Thank you /. for being the place where you can have a humorous yet somewhat intelligent discussion of the usefulness of scatological materials.
Chrome does the same thing--I think the link above is for their "special new profile" space only, rather than the site as a whole.

You want to patent your hand? I pretty sure prior "art" exists here.
Thanks. That Anonymous Coward fellow rotates between jack-ass and informative and insightful all in one thread. :-D

I love that this is modded insightful.
Are you referring to China alone? I fail to see how this is different from many other "democratic" nations.
Really? Is a dataset of n=160 really big in astronomy? It seems appallingly small in my line of work.
PS3break.com has a splash telling you not to buy the fake PS3break.
What is wrong with the mods lately? This is a funny attempt at defusing a rant.

I think you may have missed the part where robot fingers smash a skull. Imagine what they'd do to softer tissues.

Yes, yes--that's what I need! A tablet computer so that I can walk over to my printer and print something I'm already holding in my hands.
