What should I do if I find Columbia debris?
Do not touch it. Monday evening, NASA officials issued another warning that the debris "may be dangerously contaminated with toxic substances and cause serious injury if handled. Individuals who think they may have come in contact with shuttle debris should take a shower with soap and water and then seek medical attention.
What is the nature of this contamination? Does anyone here know?
Why not generate some completely unique names? Instead of using names from some Tolkein or Trek universe, use some random name generator to come up with some funny sounding ones. Just make sure they have lots of syllables, and sit back listening to people pronounce them!
I'm willing to bet most of your crowd was kids and daddies. The St. Louis Zoo was apparently hosting crowds of kids and daddies as well. Where were the mommies?
Don't forget the pong game on Commander Keen's wristwatch. I can't say I played it much while I was trying to rescue the babysitter, but it definitely impressed me at the time.
Did anyone read the discussion in which the smiley was born? I'm wondering what the answer is to the originally posed question: "What happens to a drop of mercury and a lit candle in an elevator?"
After our last contracted instructor (Perl training), I would definitely screen for subject enthusiasm. This guy would prefix each session with how much he doesn't like Perl, trying to steer us towards C. Really takes the oomph out of the class. Unless asked for his opinion, an instructor should just stick to effectively teaching the subject material.

Larry,
What's it like for a celebrity to be a part of a community of Christians? Do you pass the collection plate and hand out programs before service starts like any other member, or do you get the celebrity treatment there, as well? I guess I'm asking how deep and intrusive into your life this celebrity stuff goes.
Keep it up, I appreciate it, and the world needs more Christian heros!
I did some research on CRT recycling here in St. Louis, and everyone directed me to the trash hauling service. The trash hauling service claimed they would recognize old TVs and monitors sitting on your curb and would recycle them. I find it hard to believe that the dood hanging off the back of the trash truck would conscientiously separate CRTs from the other trash, and I don't recall seeing any separate bins in the trash truck.
Can anyone say how effective recycling efforts by local trash hauling companies are?
I recommend Lugaru's Epsilon. Sure, it's a commercialized Emacs, but it's lightning fast, and comes with binaries for Win32, Linux, O/S2, FreeBSD and DOS on the same CD.
I'm not sure I understand the requirement for non-geeky. I think a good definition of "geeky" is "having a passion for something." I know cooking geeks, sewing geeks, music geeks... so in my opinion, you only want to know what books people are reading that they don't care for that much.
There's one thing I can't forgive DEC for, and that's mutating the keyboard in their VTxxx (where xxx > 200?) terminals. Why'd they have to take away the ESC key? What's with the 'DO' key? Did they really think doing this would force me to use All-In-One?
If Gary is as approachable as he seems, would it be possible to have a Slashdot interview of him? I'd like to know what he thinks about the Open Gaming License.
Perhaps not every "Days of our Lives" episode is realistic... but you catch the odd episode that seems to go out of its way. For instance, just last week, I believe it was, there was an episode about bathroom modeling clay.
My own personal filter is the pronunciation test. Does the hippie say "noo-cyoo-lar", or as it should be pronounced, "noo-klee-ar"? If he mispronounces it, I automatically assume he doesn't know what he's talking about and find myself another hippie.
Steve McConnell has some excellent advice on managing a software team. Check out Rapid Development or any of his other titles. He definitely helps to balance the concepts of programmer freedom vs. responsibility.
Note that I'm all for having freedom to code without political interruptions and misdirections, but there are appropriate times for managers to intervene:
Customer liason
Guiding tradeoff decisions - feature vs. schedule, for example
Enforcing group practices and standards, such as walkthrus, revision control
There's definitely documentation out there on all these tasks, but in my opinion, finding and reading the docs, and then processing the information into knowledge is hard work. I'm not saying that the research isn't worth it - but if your "free time" is already pretty much consumed, yet you have a desire to create home movies on vcd from a digital camera, it would definitely be nice to quickly come up to speed on how to use dvgrab, mjpegtools, vcdimager etc without needing to become an expert.
I want to know $$$$$exyGal's daily pattern of information retrieval.

I think a better material would be cookie dough, so you can refresh yourself after a tough game of minesweeper.
Verah naaas!

Pimp it out with:
Hydraulic suspension that jumps
Small tires that stick far out the sides
Powerful sound systems that make the ears bleed
Fuzzy dice
One of those Calvin decals peeing on a competitor's (Razor?) logo

I would buy books that educated me in using OSS applications - making Linux & the BSDs more accessible on the desktop. Examples would be:
