Their vast OEM agreements with all major computer manufacturers and Getting Word and Excel to be ubiquitous with Word processor and Spreadsheet is what gave M$ their market share - Nothing to do with how cool they are.
Or should I correct myself and say that in the least, this has been a large part of why they have their market share. I would be a fool to indicate that these are the only reasons
Microsoft have failed to gain any semblance of “cool”
I don't think that Microsoft ever had cool. Microsoft rose to prominence not by being cool but by ensuring that their OS and utility applications became the default Business and Home standards.
New, layman computer buyers have had little choice but to send some money to M$ with every new machine they bought for most of the past 20 years. These people weren't buying "Cool" gadgets though. On the whole they were buying computers. Computers for their homes, school, work, internet connections - computers that happened to come with Microsoft products running on them.

This reminds me of an old TV show I remember from the late 80s. I think it may have been called Probe. Anyway, some guy had invented a smart computer which started killing people. It later turned out that the computers logic thought it was doing good - It was killing good people to send them to heaven, saving them.
My first thought on reading that it would hold 1,440 people at once..
Church groups plan to build 100 of these around the world in preparation for the fulfilment of the revelations so that the 144,000 can be at pre-designated pick up points.
Steinlager won the Les Amis Du Vin competition four years in a row from 1977 to 1980, after which the organisers politely asked if it could refrain from entering "to give the others a chance".
In 1985 at the Brewers' International Exhibition in London, Steinlager was judged the 'World's Best Lager'.
In 1998 Steinlager was awarded two Le Monde Selection gold medals in Belgium.
In 2005 Steinlager again won gold at the Le Monde awards.
More recently Steinlager won a gold medal and 'Best in Class' in the lager division at the 2006 Australian International Beer Awards.
On A trip to the U.S. a few years ago, I was suprised to find a local New Zealand Beer (Steinlager) for sale in the supermarket a few dollars cheaper than I could buy it here.
I have always been honest with current employers about any job interviews I am going for. I have always had frank and honest discussions with my bosses/ supervisors about my future career goals.
I have found that by being up-front and doing this, my employers have always graciously given me leeway and supported me into "the next step" - including working around interviews and/or have offered me more growth (and sometimes money) where I am.
It could be that I have been lucky to have never worked for the wrong person in the wrong company, but so far, this has suited me very well.
I was taking "use their brains" to mean "Employ common sense". Watching my 13 year old (geeky) son and his also friends, I see them use their brains all the time. I just cant fathom how their brains are working devoid of logic.
Not understanding half of what you wrote:) All I know is this phone I was given for work came with a standard wall charger and a USB cable. The wall charger worked. The USB cable when attached to a generic USB wall charger would not.
Also when attached to a P.C. via USB it would not charge. I thought it was a bung USB cable, so I tried switching them with ones from other devices.. Still no luck. Until I did some googling.. .
So if they are sticking to standard or not, I can not answer, but they are sticking to inconvenience by not just working out of the box like most other USB devices
And then there was motorolla, who allowed a micro usb for charging, but insisted on having motorolla drivers and software installed on a system before you could charge it from a P.C. You then had a choice beteen the official licenced charger, or plugging it into a p.c. with their software installed. .

True,
I was taking "use their brains" to mean "Employ common sense". Watching my 13 year old (geeky) son and his also friends, I see them use their brains all the time. I just cant fathom how their brains are working devoid of logic.
And of course I was *never* like that :)
forcing them to actually use their brains would be a great idea.
You haven't met many kids have you :)
This is something that I would really like to see answered!
I think you should hold off untill they bring out the 3d model
As most of our distributers and many of our big chain stores are Australian, We have the same problem here over the ditch in New Zealand.
I buy almost all of my media (dvd, Blu ray and Video games) from the U.K for a fraction of the price it is availble for locally.

Mars ain't the kind of place to raise your kids.
In fact, it's cold as hell.
And there's no one there to raise them if you did
Hudson Hawk inspired me to time all of my tasks with Music.
