It's good to see Asus posting a healthy profit thanks to their Android offerings. I'm sure the Nexus 7 was a good chunk of that.
Also, I wasn't surprised they mentioned HTC and their recent market woes. After buying the latest iteration of the EVO, I'm convinced they screwed themselves into this position with their own software. The build quality of their phone is top notch with the One series. However, the most recent releases of their Sense UI skin for Android have been some of the most bloated software I've ever used. This phone was lagging and taking it's sweet time loading anything within a few hours out of the box. Definitely a turn off for customer. I understand they want to differentiate their product and add increased value to the customer, but AOSP Android has been great since Ice Cream Sandwich. HTC really should stop trying to fix what isn't broken and offer some AOSP devices, along with some that have a much less cumbersome version of their framework added on. Sense has some features I really miss after putting a Jelly Bean ROM on my phone, but they definitely aren't compelling enough to make me switch back./rant
Also, I'm curious to see if their Windows Phone 8 offerings start selling better than their Android phones. The WP8 devices have been getting some great reviews.
Considering their current naming convention patterns, there could be up to 3 more models between then and now. Cross your fingers and hope they breach 1500 mAh by then lol.
Ya know, your numbers are probly better than anything I coulda cooked up lol. It's just every time I see these blurbs about shattering previous pre-order records or product x eclipsing its predecessor's release, I wonder if these numbers are even valid. Simply trying to remain safely skeptical.
So far my biggest criticism of the new iphone, sight unseen, is their claims of battery life. While I understand there have been immense improvements in mobile battery life in the past year, the numbers Apple is claiming seem a bit lofty. They barely upped the battery capacity (1432 mAh? someting like that, all I know is its their most capacious battery yet, even if by only a minute margin) but they're claiming 8 hours of web browsing on 3G and LTE? My current book learning (studying Electrical Engineering) and current experience with an LTE equipped smartphone tells me those numbers most likely shouldn't be the same. Factor in the bigger screen which will have a higher power draw, and a faster processor, and these numbers just aren't adding up for me. I really want to see some battery tests.
So I'm not trying to incite a flame war, but I'm honestly curious to see who is coming from what in the pre-order figures. By which I mean, how many are current iphone users looking to have their latest and greatest, who's switching from one ecosystem to another, how many are first time smartphone buyer, etc.
I've always wondered how these "millions of pre-orders" figures broke down.
I'd say a netbook would be perfect for him. Inexpensive, small keyboard, some are still powerful enough to run IDEs.
I had an Asus 1000HA for a couple years, the whole bottom opened up to upgrade components. However, I believe most current designs aren't as tinkerer friendly as older ones.
Ah OK, didn't know how big of an issue it was for you. Figured I'd give you the heads up since the NA One X and Evo are pretty identical. I was on the fence about CM10 till last week when it finally started showing up in the nightlies. Well for the Evo at least.
I wish I could mod you up more, because you sir definitely get it. I really feel like this Android update issue is being spun into something bigger than it really is. Yea it is a bit annoying that some manufacturers aren't even bothering to update a good portion of their phones. And dragging their feet updating the flagship ones. But I'm seeing more and more Android users that don't care if their phone could be updated, or even know about an update, because they're happy with the way it works. If it ain't broke, why fix it?
And while they're content not knowing or caring, I'm quite content rooting and flashing
You using CM10? They got the video camera working on the Evo LTE, been my daily driver for the past week and I just can't go back to anything with Sense. Stock JB is soooooooo fast:-)
I've been using the various release previews on a vm on my laptop, and just recently installed in on my desktop. And yet I still can't get why everyone is complaining. They took the start menu and changed it to fill the whole screen. OK. I understand that, no problem. Yet I collectively see from all across the internet: "OH DEAR LORD WHAT IS THIS UNHOLY ABOMINATION THAT STEALS MY SCREEN REAL ESTATE EVERY TIME I PRESS THE WINDOWS KEY? WHERE'S MY MENU???" Or worse yet: "It has a touch friendly interface? THIS INSTANTLY MEANS ITS USELESS WITH A MOUSE AND KEYBOARD." So hey, those are reasonable reactions. I applaud Microsoft for going out on a limb and merging the tablet and desktop OS. And I think think they've hit the mark to be honest. It's faster and prettier than 7, and I feel it's more user friendly. I really get the impression that those who are complaining the most either A) haven't spent time with it and are going off the complaints of others, or B) tried it out, looking for something to complain about.
I think I've trudged through enough insufferable comments blowing hot air, so if you've found mine insufferable in any way, welcome to the club.
I'm just sick of the herpring and the derping surrounding this software.
Just drive between KC and Wichita, acres upon acres of rolling hills. I-35 goes right through the Flint Hills, they're damn beautiful. It rarely stays flat across the state. I love living here, the open prairie really is gorgeous. Great fishing too:-D
Uhhh, that's in Coffeyville dood, wrong corner of the state lol. But mickmel is right, Lawrence, KS is on there because of McClendon. That's also why KU's famous Allen Fieldhouse was one of the first full 3D buildings in Google Earth. Last fall he handed out free Motorola Xoom's to EE, CE, and CS students, me being one of them;-)
He's just proud to be a Jayhawk, and so am I! Rock chalk!
Ignore the other guys. Moving to have injunctions placed against directly competing products for a patented feature which is actually used in multiple markets is highly anti-competitive. I'd say Apple's moves are fully indicative they're getting scared by the competition. It's sad that they feel they can only beat the competition in the court room.
I've seen many apps, not just games, that were offered for free on Android and in many reviews the user said they would pay for the app. Now you can't say that means they would go back and pay now, but it seems to me, if people are given the option to donate instead of being forced to pay upfront, they will opt to put forth some cash for what they consider good work. Haven't music artists done this to some success with making their music available online?
Agreed. This marks a couple articles I've see now calling for the end of the ever increasing phone screen size. Seems the people calling for this are those who've grown so accustomed to smaller form factors they don't even want to admit there's a trend and demand for larger screen sizes. And the fact is, a sizable portion of smartphones users do prefer larger form factors. I myself do, for many reasons: more spacious screens are easier to type on, easier to see content, larger phones fit better in my large hands (I could never live with an iphone, I don't care how well you say it works, every time I hold one I'm afraid its gonna slip right out of my hand, they're just too damn small for me). And the fact is many of these larger phones still remain quite pocketable. I remember reading a review/critique of the Galaxy Note a while back on BGR and all the author did was whine about how it was too big. But sure enough, looking through the comments, several puzzled Note owners had weighed in, all praising the device and wondering what had crawled up the author's butt.
It's like saying don't buy a truck, because its' wheels are bigger than a sedan's. It's just silly. I'll continue to vote larger with my wallet.
Don't know if you've already looked into it, but it sounds like the Razr Maxx might be the smartphone you're looking for. A 3300 mAh battery is packed into that thing making it chunky compared to the other sliver phones out there, but in reality still remains thin. Only downside I can tell is you're stuck with verizon as the carrier.
Makes you wonder if the ignorance is by choice or out of neglect.

You were modded down? Someone's being being just a liiiittle petty

Those millions of S3 users welcome you to try their lemonade
Mighty tasty stuff.

Same, I was much more curious of what Amazon had to offer than Apple.
You need to try out stock Jellybean. Makes ios feel antiquated.
