Do you really think that the video game industry will sit around and let this happen? How is someone supposed to play Crisis or whatever new and shiny hardware crusher comes out?

You can't possibly support this with a web based OS. Not to mention there are a hell of a lot of other things that won't let this happen. Do you think that Dell, HP, Sony et al are going to let M$ just switch the platform that dramatically that no one will be buying newer and faster machines? The only thing they would need to get is new and faster interwebs connections.

Nope, there is more money to be lost by the hardware and software vendors than what M$ could make with a new subscription based and web based OS.

If this does happen then watch for games and other software start being created with full Linux support.

Let then pursue this, it is great for Linux.

  3. Not enough exercise... on How Do Geeks Exercise? · · Score: 1

You aren't doing enough exercise. 60 press ups (push ups??) is ok, but doesn't really target your waist line. 30 situps... if you are doing them everyday isn't going to do very much after a short time. You need to be increasing your numbers. You need to focus on improvement. If you can do 30 situps, try 2 sets of them. Then try 3 sets. Once you can do 3 sets of 30 sit ups increase to 40 sit ups or 50. Eventually you may have to do resistance exercises such as doing them while holding a medicine ball.

You need to be constantly pushing the envelope until you get to your target. Once there, you can stay at a constant routine. If what you are doing isn't working, then you need to push yourself to do a little bit more.

Cardio workouts are a great way to trim the mid section as well. Running, biking, speed walking, and swimming are all great for this. You need to be getting your heart rate up to about 120 beats per minute (to start, higher as you get more in shape).

If you really don't want to exercise in front of people then get a stationary bike or a treadmill, or an elliptical machine.

Don't forget diet as well. You may not be over eating but what you are eating may not be all that healthy. When good diet and exercise are combined you will get great results.

Usually, people don't care too much about people they don't know.

I think your base assumption is flawed. If this was true then the Red Cross wouldn't exist, neither would other charitable organizations that receive money from everyday people and disperse it to others in need. If people didn't care too much then they wouldn't give too much. But the fact of the matter is that the people of this world care very much about the well being of others. I'm sorry that you don't, but I think I'm speaking for the majority of people when I say that I do.

This is very true. And wouldn't it be the case that if software (being a written work) were to be only protected by copyright and no longer have patent protection then this would strengthen the fair use argument and put it more inline with other written works such as books and magazines.

Once I buy a book I can do with it what I please, in accordance with the law of course. I can read a book anywhere I want for whatever reason I want, and the use of software should be the same.

The biggest gripe I have since getting into the world of software licensing (as a programmer on an expensive server setup) has been the way companies charge for their software. I'm ending this post before it becomes a rant... but you all know what I'm getting at.

The major difference between the tobacco industry and the cell phone industry is that the times have changed. Information is easily found and shared now, hence the reason why the tobacco industries lies and deception came to light in the first place.

If this U. of Pitt professor (my alma matar) wants to do some research and find the correlations between cell phones and brain cancer then he certainly is in the right place to do it. And there are way to many outlets now, if he wanted to make a public stink he could. Then other researchers would be forced to review his findings and we would end up with an honest look at the situation (assuming this isn't the case with the findings against this idea so far).

At the end of the day people are responsible for their actions, and its a parent's job to raise their children how they see fit. And so long as their kids aren't breaking laws and infringing on my rights then the government needs to keep their hands off.

Not all Christians are imperial control freaks trying to force the world to live a certain way. We have the freedom to believe and live the way we want and shouldn't be trying to force people to live a certain way. Be an example and if people like what they see then they will follow. The fact of the matter is that most people who would be buying these electric cars for commuting are in households with more than one vehicle.

As the scenario has been presented above, you could have an electric car for the everyday commute and the other vehicle be for your longer trips.

This would allow the car companies to use these revenues and technologies to further create new technologies while slowly building the infrastructure to support more electric cars as their ranges increase along with sales.
