Saying thank you at least acknowledges that the other person did something for you and it didn't go unnoticed. Even if there's no emotion behind it or anything, that's still something.
I haven't ever read Ars Technia (except for following links from slashdot), but I did try to whitelist ads for this site. Unfortunately, I would have to allow javascript from whatever ad servers slashdot uses. Disabling adblock on this site and allowing javascript from this domain isn't enough to view ads, so I don't see them. It would be nice if I could support slashdot by viewing ads without trusting javascript from an ad server.
You're looking at the price of RAM from the Apple store, right? It's a ripoff, buy it from somewhere else and put it in yourself. Most Apple-fanboy forums will even give this advice, and it's easy enough that non-technical people don't have problems following the directions to upgrade their own RAM.
So the problem is actually that the MoD is stupid enough to entrust their data with a private company that's too incompetent to avoid losing data? That's just as bad, I'm not sure what you're defending here.
BitTorrent is crucial to my musical aspirations, as distributing my music with it allows me to provide formats that would use a lot of bandwidth, such as FLAC, without incurring expensive bandwidth charges.
While musicians can host their music for free at places like MySpace, it's really best to for artists to have their own websites, and to host their own music. That way, growth in the popularity of their sites will enrich the artists, rather than the music hosting service.
That weird powdery feeling goes away after using the keyboard for a while. I don't mind that feeling, but I don't miss it either.

You could probably get people to pay to have that removed. No one will pay to have it put on their device.
That was my first thought too.
No, they're from 18 year olds that are too busy text messaging to look both ways when entering the street.
Tap with two fingers, or put two fingers on the trackpad and click.
This may not make you hate Apple laptop keyboards any less, but you can use fn + delete to delete characters.
This means we no longer need to confirm passwords twice when registering.
Yeah, just like we don't have to confirm email addresses right now.
It makes more sense if Apple gets a cut of the 2-year contract revenue.
Screwed up moderating, posting to fix.
Release more versions of Windows 7, that way everyone can get exactly what they want.
How does that get modded informative?
GMail has keyboard shortcuts (although I wish they were customizable, I'd like to add a few more).
There's an addon in Google Labs (Custom keyboard shortcuts) that will let you customize them.
It's simple. Include a CD with 20 web browser installers on it. That will be simple enough for anyone to figure out.

If I was worried about privacy with my gmail account, google wouldn't have my actual name to have the ability to give it out.

And you think the record companies want that?
How does 245x + 243y + 241z = 2500, when x, y, and z are all positive integers?
I need my preferences fixed. My password is 12345.
