    You went out of your way to praise your Dad for having the foresight to move beyond his comfort zone by bringing home a computer. Isn't computing simply your version of "sports and cars"? Shouldn't you be trying to emulate your father by moving beyond your comfort zone and bringing home something that will inspire your kids to pursue their own interests rather than yours?

    And this is bad because...?

    If they don't like it, you can move on and try something else. But if they are already showing interest in computers... why not?

    On the subject of the "Shuffle" it's not like I'm going to be trapped by my purchase - if I decide I want to use something else in the future I can just convert the music and bin the player (it's cheap enough).

    Except that apturl only allows you to install packages that are already in your repositories. You'd need to tell someone to add the malicious repository to your sources.list file first. And even then, if they don't add a GPG key to authenticate, APT will tell them that the package they are trying to install is not authenticated.
