  1. Re:Crazy Chef Sato on Creativity Potentially Linked To Schizophrenia · · Score: 1

Went through a period of psychosis in my late teens, but stayed off the anti-psychotics. Took quite a while, but got back on track without the pseudo-science quackery of psychiatry. Now I run my own business and live a pretty balanced life as a respected member of my family and the community.

Interestingly enough, the more 'artistic' (ie music) stuff I do, the more sorta crazy I get, the more I keep the artistic side in check and balanced with other things, the more 'sane' I am.

Wow, that is really interesting. I had the same experience as you, but I'm a musician now. After playing a show, or recording, or writing for a few hours, I feel pretty disconnected, lots of thoughts and ideas just pouring through my head. I actually do crosswords, sudoku, or some programming to 'bring myself back.'

  7. Re:Gotta love them cassettes.. on 13-Year-Old Trades iPod For a Walkman For a Week · · Score: 1

The sound of, say, Metallica's Garage Inc on tape is way better than on mp3. Cassettes are beautiful. They are durable, unlike CD/DVDs, and I have 25 year old cassettes that still work. They are hardware, tangible mechanical form of music. And there's just something about it that no CD/DVD/MP3s can match. And then there's the cover art sitting on an actual cover. Man I miss those days.

Man this is just wrong. Yes, tape has a higher fidelity than your standard 128 kbps mp3. But not for long. You'll lose most of the highs from ambient electromagnetic interference over the years, unless you store it in a lead box or something.

I wouldn't exactly call them durable either. You've never had a tape eaten by a bad deck? Or a little brother that decorated his room with the tape?

And cover art? It's smaller than a CD case!

Have you ever even heard of vinyl? Promo posters, bifold and trifold albums, bios, and similar band recommendations. I've got 80 year old 78's that still work (good enough) and 50 year 33's that still sound new.

  13. Re:Gravel roads are cheap but need more maintenanc on Broke Counties Turn Failing Roads To Gravel · · Score: 1

Not true. I live in Green Bay, WI and every main road is concrete. All the highways are concrete. Even most side roads are concrete (quite a few are asphalt though). As far as I understand, as long as they are poured in slabs, ice isn't that big of a deal. When sections of the road get bad, you replace a slab or two and you're good to go.

Now that I think about it, every large highway and any down town road that I've ever been on is made of concrete.
