  1. Amazing? on Thieves Clear Out NJ Apple Store In 31 Seconds · · Score: 5, Insightful

I don't know whether my idea of criminality standards are just a bit higher, but when I watched that video I wasn't the slightest bit "amazed" by it. What's so amazing about filling your arms / pockets full of merchandise and getting the fok out of there? I'd like to think that all of us are smart enough to "mastermind" a crime such as that.

  2. Re:MS needs to be thinking about the 720 on Microsoft Drops Xbox 360 Pricing · · Score: 1

Couldn't agree more with you. Tired, tired, tired of checking out the reviews of new games seeing nothing but mediocre to average software selling. Tired of standing next to people in a store, buying Wii games on cover alone. Tired of hearing from my family members how they have bought game X because it sounded okay, only to discover it was a steaming pile of shit. Very little but exploitation occurring in the market for Wii games. I mean, why bother putting out a decent game when your market are largely, not gamers who choose games with less savvy decision making processes? I was ready for the Wii to be great. I went to a fair bit of expense to get 4 controllers and I have never, ever used them to any use outside of Wii bowling.

Not to say there hasn't been the odd good game, but it's always been predictable. There's very little surprise in discovering that the new mario/kart is good. Nothing but decent maintenance releases for the long serving fans of nintendo.

Sure, I agree that my point of view is a little close-minded - there's always a few people that pop and say "what about game x?". Yet, unfortunately, these "x" games are generally split decisions. Where are the games that all agree are great? I just want to play stuff that is guaranteed good. Why is it that I have "take a chance on conduit"? Too few sure things. Too much digging for gold. I can buy an 360 (which I've resisted) and easily go buy 10 sure thing games that are going to entertain me. Can't do that with the Wii, unless I'm buying mario, mario kart, smash bros, zelda (sequel, sequel, sequel etc etc).

In this case, a subtle "impossible" (that was never in the source) was added. Maybe it wasn't conscious, but as you can see from the comments, it's the exact very thing that most people are focusing on. I call that clever (but largely.. poor) reporting.

I'm reticent to post this, but hey, I believe there is a fundamental problem with the way the media reports science, I wrote this a few weeks ago, after another slashdot article. It is foul mouthed, but very much related to misleading people about science, and largely, damaging the perception of science as an alternative to (fake) religon.

Since you have commented: I've always wondered what coke was like. Not enough to bother with all the trouble to get it. Enough that if someone was legally carrying some and offered it to me at the right moment, I might accept. So yes, legality does in some way bring about a change in perspective. It is far more likely for an individual to carry around cocaine, now that it isn't illegal to do so.

Even on slashdot, you've got to be very careful with your language when a "wonder" story comes along. That is your only mistake. To avoid that reaction, it probably isn't enough to say "this is cool stuff... but". You must make the layman believe that you are still giving it the respect that you've probably actually given a thousand times over, studying and exploring it. That doesn't amount to anything more than being a little more praising, to offset the scientific clarification (particularly if you are introducing a caveat). It's a strange facet of human nature that those who are in their more initial stages of discovery tend to "strike out" at those who have probably "been there" and thus are more perceptably flippant.

How can having a kangaroo crawl into a protective area (where prey cannot pick them off easily) be considered poor design?

That would be because of the "epic crawl" part. Have you never seen this on the Discovery Channel or something? The pupa is this tiny slug-like thing, maybe a centimeter long, and it needs to crawl halfway up its mothers' front side and then back down into the pocket. The mother kangaroo is there licking a trail into her own fur to make it a liittle bit easier for the poor thing. Not just really weird, kinda risky on the newborn.

Clearly I have been too busy playing knifey spoony. Jesus.
