After installing GTA4 for the fifth time and waiting an hour for it to do so I wanted to buy a console and be done with it. Then I found out that since my last console (PSX) they require you to bloody install the game on a hard drive. WTF? Where is the "just pick up and play" part of console gaming here?
I don't know about GT, GTX, GTS (But I presume those are "better," "best," "even better.") but the model names for nVidia are consistent. The 2xx, 3xx, 4xx are series numbers. 2 being oldest. The xx go from 10 to 90. 10 is lowest-power card. 90 is high-end monster that nobody sane will buy. The 10-40 tend to be for laptops. 50-70 are consumer models, and 80-90 are for enthusiasts with too much money.
Judging by how the new StarCraft and BattleNet are described here, then I'd say the developers are trying very much to get PC RTS games to look like those on consoles. Lobby chat? Who wants that. Nobody has a keyboard after all.
With the insane price cuts this week, I've found myself buying games from Steam for Euro rather than ordering a boxed version for Polish Zloty because it's cheaper after the -75% cut. It's crazy.
The USA turning off all their access points seems to fall under "significant part switched off," and the rest of the world still being able to use the Internet would be proof that even such an event doesn't 'kill' the entire Internet.
Or e641, but I was targeting video files. Hosting them costs bandwidth and uploading them by users just to get the tags is infeasible, thus the MD5 sums. I'm sure there are thousands of "most popular" files which are shared and not changed but have dozens of file names each. My idea is pretty much MusicBrainz Picard but for porn clips.
Tags are the way to go for porn. The first person to open up a website creating lists of tag words based or MD5 sums for your porn file collection to import in a file tagging program will be rich.
I'm not really knowledgeable about e-mail servers so I can't tell it from the wikipedia article. Does this method work only for computers sending out spam, or can it be run on everyone's server and cause spam-bots to slow down noticeably? If the latter, I'm surprised it's not standard practice worldwide.
And before before that spontaneous battles of 100 players were unplayable. Yes, it is a step back, but it's not like over two hundred people fighting at once is something to be sneezed at. Cut CCP some slack or just don't play the game if it's so bad. I'm sure dozens of new players will happily fill in the void your corp leaves after you go away in protest.
CCP are doing their best to prevent the lag or failures of nodes when big battles happen. For one, you can send them a message ingame ahead of time saying "In system XYZ we will be attacking the other faction tomorrow." and CCP then dedicate a much stronger server for that time to this system. Then you can have battles of 500+ ships with moderate success. For spontaneous events I believe battles of under 200 do not cause much problems anymore.(apart from some lag)
A few people expressed their concern for the well-being of city residents. Also, nobody is said to have died in this event as per the June 1st article:
In downtown Guatemala City, the rains opened an enormous sinkhole 66 feet across and 100 feet deep on Saturday that swallowed a clothing factory and a city intersection. No one was reported killed in the large crater (pictured above).
As a Polish person, I am every now and then trying to come up with a way to cheat at spelling. I don't know if it's the same for any nation that has a 1 to 1 relation between letters and pronunciation in their language, but I believe that's the case.
What I mean is that I can spell out any word that I know in any language at two letters a second in Polish. I can barely spell out anything in English though. That's because you say "i" as "eye" and not as "ee" even though in words like "in" or "kin" you pronounce it that way.
I really should have used the IPA to write that, but I don't even know if slashdot supports those characters, and many probably don't know the IPA. Anyway, I blame the spelling not being too consistent with the pronunciation as well as the pronunciation of individual letters being different than the sounds they stand for for the existence of spelling bees. In Poland, orthography is the only problem that language users face (we have a couple of sounds that can be written either way, and only one is "correct") and thus our spelling tests are based on that.
Why both Polish and English don't abandon such linguistic nuisances in favour of consistency and ease of use, I don't know.
Well, English probably because of dialects and large differences between regional ways of pronouncing the same word, but Polish has little excuse for staying with "chwast" vs "hwast" with just one being correct while it's pronounced identically and has no meaning loss.
My 2.5 year old Samsung 275T monitor is currently retailing at the same location for appox $75 more than I paid for it at purchase. In 30+ years of building systems I think that may be a first.
(Freaking great monitor, btw.)
Some of this is of course due to currency fluctuations, I think... never seen a piece of hardware increase in price over time before.
I bought my current PC roughly two years ago from parts and still have the list with prices on a website I bought it from. Almost all the items are still available to buy and have increased in price.
The RAM was cheaper before, PSU and case were cheaper, motherboard cost less, only the CPU is no longer sold and the GPU (GF8800) is noticeably cheaper now than when I bought it.
Pay them more for each month they remain a virgin (because that's the only semi-reliable way to check if she had sex) and hint that anal sex won't break the rules.
Win-win. Both the sex drive will be satiated and less unwanted children around.
And as I said: even crappy porn sites are confident enough in their protection scheme to allow links. If they really believe someone can bypass their paywall then they need to hire some new IT staff.
You are free to hyprerlink to it, but the server itself is free to ignore or block your request. Their site, their rules.
This should be a non-existent story. Site wants users to pay for viewing it - site blocks unlogged users from viewing content. Why would anyone want to prevent linking to the site if it's behind a paywall already? Even crappy porn sites are confident enough in their protection system that they allow anyone to link to any part of the site. They just redirect you to the "Please pay" page and are happy you came over from a random link.
There's tons of loli hentai porn available everywhere. That may or may not be illegal, but I'm sure that if you downloaded that and also added some photos of adult porn with heads edited out for little girls' heads she'd be convinced.
Men are already obsolete. They can use a vibrator for penetration, spermbank for babies, and a dog for sleeping on the couch. And yet, women still want men. Desperate enough that many put up with abuse just to have one.
Some skip the vibrator and prefer to use the dog instead:p
Women are not yet obsolete. There is nothing as soft as a woman, we can't have babies, and a cat is to affectionate and emotionally reliable.

They absolutely missed a geek chance to play Still Alive on it instead of some random song.
I hope Obama tries it out in the future. It would be fun to watch and learn how a society reacts to such a situation

Signed, the rest of the world.

the phone doesn't belong to your carrier anymore (it never belonged to you, you realize that, right?) it belongs to the rootkit operator.
I don't know about you, but I buy my phones myself. It's always cheaper than if I got it on contract and had to pay an X amount of money over Y years.
As for Homer Simpson? I don't believe he can write very much at all.
I would have guessed he referred to the Greek bloke. But that wasn't written in Latin anyway.

Carmageddon 2 doesn't have a working multiplayer :(

A cat is fine too..
I too can't imagine accidentally pressing this key combo, but it can happen for some, apparently.
ctrl+backspace is very handy for deleting whole words while you're typing and I use it a lot. So maybe if someone tried multitasking while typing...
Sorry. I meant RTFFPTIMU.
(That is Modded Up)
