This is very exciting, alternative sources of energy are getting closer and closer to becoming more viable. After reading an article about how rising oil prices are helping alternative energy, I think the stage is getting set for a real revolution. Being realistic, we have a long way to go,
Miyasaka says that the next goal is to increase the charging voltage and the charge-discharge capacity to a practically and industrially useful level for applications.
I'm in the process of getting rid of our Windows 2000/Exchange server and moving to use Groupwise running off Suse Linux. We're planning to have it all done by January of next year.
I'm excited and anxious to get this done, I'm looking forward to a lower TCO.
In order for their idea to work, they'd actually need to have real and factual material to put on their Groklaw 'archrival'. Otherwise the new site would've been ripped appart.
I graduated from a Catholic High School a few year back and one of the Priests said it best,
'Who are we to say how God created or didn't create the World. God could've could've chosen to create the creatures in 7 days or God could've chosen to create the creatures in the world with evolution'
I really don't see the big fuss, whether God created the world one way or another, it doesn't affect the core basis of my beliefs. This has little to do with morality and my day to day life.
It does turn out to be a lively debate that can go on for hours between two opinionated people. And my guess is that those two people usually care more about looking smarter than the other, than they care about their beliefs and Morality.
Sure a cure for cancer would be nice, but atleast I can use this to calculate how many of those leaves from my neighbor's damned tree are going to end up on my lawn.
I wonder what the dreams would be like in extended Hibernation. I get some crazy dreams sometimes, what happens when you don't wake up for a few weeks?
I wonder what stage of sleep you would be in, REM sleep? Or would it be a differege stage that has fewer dreams?
I'm really curious what the studies will find out about dreams in Hiberantion.
I've been looking at replacing our Microsoft Exchange Servers with Suse and Novell Groupwise. Has anyone had experience with this?
I'm needing software that encourages collaboration between our staff, but also allows integration with custom software through Open Standards. Will the most version of Groupwise allow this?
I watched Gattaca last night, what a great movie. I loved seeing Jerome's (the main character, Ethan Hawke) description of Titan.
He was smoking a cigarrette at dinner and was asked "What is Titan like at this time of the Year?". He took a puff of his cigarrate and blew the smoke into a glass of wine.
It seems like they think that if they say Windows is more secure enough times it will become a reality. They should put more focus on developing secure software, than simply paying lip service to secure software.
I really fail to see any real solution to this issue being presented. Tax loopholes won't erase the fact that there are qualified workers in a cheaper business environments. All the tax loophole becomes is a Red Herring for the real issue.
Let's come up with serious and real solutions to this.
A. India has very qualified workers
B. They are very will to work and will work for a lower wage
C. The end result usually comes out to be similiar to what would be done in the U.S.
I'm not sure what could be done, but I know that Tax Loopholes have nothing to do with the real problem of outsourcing.

I personally prefer to use Firefox in my Fedora Core 2 box. I believe it would be wise to standardize around Firefox and have Gnome's brower be tied more closely with Mozilla's community.
No matter what happens with the default browser situation, I'll end up using Firefox no matter.
That is what I was wishing for. I settled for creating a pdf's in PHP using FDFD. If only there was a command line tool to create the pdf's from a OpenOffice file, I could maintain the appearance of the customer's templates.
Instead, I have to create a class file to generate pdf reports with FPDF, taking all the freedom from the client to update their own reports without my help.
I created a PHP script a few months ago that allowed a client to upload StarOffice templates for company documents. Then the the script automatically generate documents by pulling data from a database and inserting it into the StarOffice document.
Was really easy, StarOffice documents are zipped files that contain the XML files. I just unzip'ed the file, inserted the appropriate data into the content.xml file and zipped it back up.
I was absolutely amazed by how easy the StarOffice files were to work with. I'm really excited about the possibilities that are in store for us, especially ones that are better than my little hack.
I installed crossover a month ago, and was very pleased to be able to run IE inside my linux. Now I can be using Linux and check to see what quirky things IE will do, alongside my Mozilla. It is just nice to be able to do that from my machine.
What will this mean for CrossOver and Wine having the ability to run IE in the future? Will this make it much more difficult to get IE running inside CrossOver and Wine? Is that an intended effect by Microsoft?
I have a friend who is deaf and he is in a unique situation. He lives in a small Nebraskan town that doesn't have many other deaf students like him, making it very hard to communicate. Right now he's a sophomore in High School, but I remember when he was in middle school.
I talked to him about it, and he was having a very difficult time making friends and communicating with them. He would go to dances and events, but couldn't socialize with other students since they didn't know sign language and using the interpretor was ackward. (Usually a 40+ year old person.)
I tried to help him out and find ways for him to communicate. The best way I could find was to use the internet. In this meduim, nobody had to know he was deaf. It wasn't an issue. He used IRC, ICQ, AIM, Yahoo Messenger etc. He began to make friends, and lots of them.
He started to play games with people he met on the internet. He'd play StarCraft, Quake, Civilization, etc... He was able to socialize, have fun, and make lots of new friends. It really help him out and his self esteem.
Then something great happened, he started to make friends with some of students at his High School. He met them through StarCraft and Quake and they'd begin to play the games on the Internet every night. He'd talk with them all night and have a great time.
This was just awesome. I was so glad to see it happen.
But, then he came to me with a problem. He now spends all his time on his Internet connection. He goes straight from school to his PC. The world only really meets him through his online presence. He never meets these people in the real world. Now 2 years later, he's told me that he's addicted to the internet.
I guess my deaf friend is struggling to communicate everyone else and found a way. At first, this was a gift from heaven. It let him make friends and sociallize. But now he's become dependant on the internet and doesn't know any other way to make friends. Now he feels trapped and wants to make real friends.
Its a tough situation, and I know he'll find a way to make the friends in the way he wants, eventually. He's a great kid.
We aren't talking about some application that does something differently than everyone else, we're talking about messing with a standard to gain and maintin control of the market.
I just can't beleive this is ethically or legally right. What can we do to deal with this ongoing problem with Microsoft? Class action lawsuit? What are our options?
How many times have you seen a car alarm go off, and everyone just ignores it. Car alarms have been so annoying with lots of false alarms, that everyone ignores them. Even if it isn't a false alarm.
The same thing will happen with this system. There are going to be too many false alarms and everyone will begin to ignore the system entirely.

Someone should start up a site that everyone can place predictions and bets on the day that Spirit and Opprotunity dies.
It should be like the site that let everyone bet when the next big version of Linux was coming.
It'd be good clean fun for geeks,

Wonder if they're worried about the posting being found by kids looking for Zelda/Metroid cheats and tips.
I'm sure GTA would welcome the endorsement, but I can see Nintendo being uncomfortable when their audience is for a younger more innocent crowd.

RIAA sues Napster and effectively put them out of business. And then they plan to start up the same sort of service they shutdown?
Is it legal to use the courts to remove comptetition from the field, only so you can dominate the whole field?
