Any weapon you don't have control of can kill you. Your knife won't magically fail to penetrate your vital organs just because you started out with it.

If your coworker came up and maced you unexpectedly your kung-fu would be as useless as her mace when you had restrained her, prior to her macing you in the face. Surprise is a powerful and, often the only, deciding factor in a fight.

*Thud* You're dead. *Boom* All the kung-fu in the world didn't help against the sniper you didn't know about a half mile off.

Don't agree with some action Anonymous has taken? Too bad. By being a member of the group you supported it. Once they pull something big enough to seriously annoy the feds RICO laws and their ilk are going to have a heyday.

"6. There were no such things as guns in schools...if someone ever got caught with a knife, it was news for months in the city"

It was rather common for there to be guns in and around my school. The kids would bring their rifles or shotguns into the school (sometimes uncased) for shop class when they made or modified stocks and there'd always be guns in the parking lot during hunting season.

Almost everyone had a pocket knife and it wasn't uncommon to see a fixed blade knife getting stowed or taken out of a locker. The only weapon violence we had was a freaked out mother trying to take over a class room with a knife (whom was tackled by one of the football players in the room).

Fist fights were common, our school was rather notorious for that. This was before zero tolerance so no one had to "make it worth it" with a weapon despite their availability.

Do you complain every time cops apprehend someone instead of just shooting them?

Just because you have a gun does not mean you should always use the gun.

If someone, with no indication of their intent, opens fire, they have the advantage and no amount of 'holstered' firepower will stop that. Now if that person comes in brandishing their weapon giving the responding side time to react before shots are fired its a different story.

Also, a Democratic gathering is not one I'd be expecting a lot of concealed carry going on. The state may be gun happy but that does not mean all the supporters are.
