  1. Chilling thought on Venezuela's Last Opposition TV Owner Arrested · · Score: 3, Interesting

It disturbs me greatly that a man like this, and Fidel Castro regularly have been praising the direction our country is heading. I hope this TV owner finds a way to get out of this.

What idiot modded the parent post a troll. If anything it is insightful. Money doesn't grow on trees. Universal Free Health care, just means that instead of paying for a carefully vetted group of people's health insurance, you get to pay for insanely extended health care for everyone and their problems. You get to even pay for illegal aliens. Tell me how that is going to make health care cheaper.

In fact, this is the first ubuntu upgrade that I have never had any issues with. I have been using Ubuntu since Hoary Hedgehog.

  13. Typical liberal response on Microsoft Tax Dodge At Issue In Washington State · · Score: -1, Flamebait

This is the typical liberal response to a money issue: blame big capitalism. The only reason Microsoft stays in Nevada is that it lowers their overhead. If they are still forced to pay taxes, they won't pay taxes. They will move to another state, or worse yet, ship more jobs over seas, which means that there are less American jobs. If taxes are so high that tax dodging becomes a way of life for big business to thrive, raising taxes will not fix the problem.

I know this post will be modded for flamebait, but I think the original article reeks of flamebait.

  14. As someone who can write cursive. on Cursive Writing Is a Fading Skill — Does It Matter? · · Score: 3, Interesting

I spent most of my youth writing in cursive, because it was supposedly faster. I finally figured out, that I could write tons faster without it. Then I learned how to type. Occasionally, I still break it out, but by and large, I won't miss its passing. Cursive's only real purpose, I think, is the highly stylized version: Calligraphy.

Oh, many churches rely on that while simultaneously denying the rest of the rules packed right around the homosexuality verse. Rules about wearing mixed fabric clothes, and harvesting only half a field, among other equally archaic ones come to mind. I think what masmullin was trying to say is that Christianity, if they (meaning most, but not all Christians) could see past their hypocrisy on Leviticus 18:22, they would have to agree that homosexuality is not condemned, at least by the Christian God, in any context that can be considered still valid by common Christianity Biblical doctrines.

If they do, they deserve to be duped. I can only see this making any kind of sense, if the blogs in question purport to be legitimate and fact based.

Seriously though, why is paying someone to do what they already should be doing, a good idea? CCFLs do tend to produce a high-pitched audible noise. New ones are better, but I can still hear it sometimes.

They have crappy quality control. I will buy one batch and they will work great, the next batch of supposedly same watt-like brightness will be worthless (from a different company). Even within the same companies the lifespan and light produced tends to vary wildly, in my experience.

Though not a problem for me, I always worry about people who freak out and call for help when they break a CCFL. Tends to be spendy, if you don't have the good sense to clean it up, and not mention it to anyone.
