    Unless I'm mistaken the only thing 64bit color has to do with 64bit processing is that they both start with the number 64.

    64Bit will allow the computer to deal with more data at a time, no matter what the color depth of the file is... It'll let the program have more memory. That will help a 64bit image if it's BIG, but just because it's BIG, not because it's 64 bit.

    I am not sure what Intel's and Microsoft's expectations are, but it is quite possible that they are in fact looking at fundamental results from the academic centers to leverage their large work force to polish and realize the ideas that come forth. Maybe my brain needs a new compiler. This must be a multi-core sentence.

    Actually, no. The rotation of the earth would cause the ribbon to wrap around the earth in an easterly direction. To refute myself as well: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_elevator#In_the_event_of_failure says that most of it would burn up on re-entry and that which doesn't will have less force than a piece of paper. So, please disregard my statements, but it sounded impressive the first time I said it ;)

    Looking at the sheer size of this, I'd say that 'wreck the elevator' is a major understatement. Look at all the other stuff that would be wrecked. I remember reading a Ben Bova book a while back where terrorists sabotaged an elevator. They went to the top and severed the connection to the counterweight. The rest of the thing toppled like a flimsy tree, wrapping itself 1/2 way around the earth. Yeah, scifi, but it could happen.

    It's funny you should mention this, I saw this on oddly enough last week.

    It's funny, I saw a similar service on Dell's site, except they were removing Microsoft's crap. $2 to remove the games, $2 to remove the communications accessories, there were about 10 things they'd do ranging from $2-$10.

    I'm about half way through HoME which I got this christmas. Very enjoyable, although I often find myself thumbing to the index to find the 'other' names for people or places. Yes, a lot of folks, Turin especially, have 3-6 names throughout the tale.

    I agree on market share, and am surprized no one said it sooner. Looking at the stats on our website, which is a non-tech one, basic retail, I see we have 95.6% Windows, 3.3% Mac ,6% iPhone and .34% Linux. That being said, I can't see anyone but an indy developer writing a game for the Linux. Mac users have had this problem for years.

    We have about a dozen websites, some B2C others B2B. From what the stats show that in b2c (what I detailed above) we have a little better linux adoption, but it still doesn't pass the Mac. 97.8/1.5/.6

    I could almost guarantee you that IF people in Muslim countries were allowed to vote, religion would have a major influence in their decisions, much MUCH more than here. Look, I even found a similarity between USians and Middle easternerrs.

    I'm not checking my facts, but someone list some Muslim countries that ARE democratic. Hopefully, Iraq will remain one.

    Ok, actually, I did go check my facts and found that Palestine, Lebanon, Iraq, Indonesia, Egypt and Afghanistan.

    Oh my goodness, those people obviously never watched stargate! They're making replicators! They are swarms of robots that can assume any form. The only way to stop them is for MacGuyver to stick his head in some ancient machine to gain their knowledge. Then he'll develope a super weapon that looks like a BFG3000 that will shoot waves at them causing them to disassociate with each other and fall to the ground like a pile of leggos. But that's only enough to stop a few of them, the REAL solution is to link all the stargates together at once (anyone seen baal?) and then send said 'waves of magical energy' through the one closest to T'ealc.

    Someone shoot them before they doom us all!!!

    I remember mars, it was sweet. In my CIS 150 class (C++ at the time) we had a bunch of brand new gateway's with 75MHz pentiums. They were running windows 3.11 and they all shipped with mars. FUN!

    No kidding, who would have ever thought that putting a link to /. to a service that does IMAGE PROCESSING was a good idea. Image processing is intensive on any server. Hell, lately /. can't even handle /.'s loads. It took 2 minutes to load this comment page, and earlier I was getting 300 errors when trying to read comments!

    Battlefront, ehhhh, notsomuch. At least it's not bloody though. Maybe I should be worried that he only wants to play the bad guy, and kill the good guys :)
