Streaming over broadband isn't a viable option in many countries. Here in Australia an internet plan that allows you to download anything around 25 gigs is considered generous. Now, for the Aunt Jane who thinks the internet is the IE icon on her desktop, who has a 5 gig limit and 3 grandsons who want to watch movies all night, do you think she would go with the option of renting out some physical media, or streaming the videos? Now you may have the hypothesis that by the time we are streaming HD over broadband there will be no cap .. I doubt that. Australia isn't getting better anytime soon.

Guild wars had it because it was instanced. I completed the original guild wars and the two expansions, it is a good game but the instancing for it stops you from being really immersed, it also stop you from meeting potential people who may be in another instance as you doing the same quest. It is almost impossible to find a group for the small quests you can get in the game, which is where those NPCs come in to play, but then it really doesnt feel like it is an MMO.

I remember thinking Mario Kart 64 had great graphics, would I say that now? Hell no. The reason being is that you compare it to what is out there at the moment. Humans have a ranking system, if there is something better than the current best, then that gets moved down, until it has moved so far down it isn't even worth considering and is ultimately 'shit'. When the first car was created it was thought of as fast, now you watch an episode of top gear and whenever an old car is used it is basically laughed at. It is a natural cycle.

They do this in the Army as well, it's bullshit. On the obstacle course women don't even have to climb the walls, they can simply run around them, because they are women. Also, a large percentage of women are unable to throw grenades far enough so they do not hurt themselves! Oh well, I guess the enemy will be easier on them since they are women. It doesn't just stop at women, it's also anti-white, if you are white, tough luck, you don't get any help. What's that? You are black? Oh in that case welcome to this university, it doesn't matter that your scores are less than the white candidates, because, hell, you are black! Do you see this type of bullshit in other countries? Nope. The west has this shit shoved down their throats and all we do is sit and take it. I am sure if a large percentage of whites decided to live in China and create their own societies, not learn the traditions/culture, speak in English and basically refuse to assimilate there would be genocide.

  11. Sweet. on OpenMoko In Stores On July 4 · · Score: 4, Interesting

Though I am not a fan of the appearance, it is quite a powerful phone, with a 500mhz processor, which is not quite as powerful as the 700mhz processor on the iphone, but still decent nevertheless. Ofcourse, the benefiting factor being that it is open source, where as the iphone is not. It will be a great time when we are able to buy a phone, with the basic functionality installed, then choose what particular software we want to add on the phone, for free. The main problem with phones today is that there is really no way that the community can fix or improve the software without complications, but if the company is actually encouraging open source software to be developed they will provide the necessary tools (APIs etc) for the community to do these improvements themselves, saving them money in the process. It also appears that more phone companies are starting to follow this open source trend, but will probably still keep their strangle hold on their customer base by using DRM and SIM locks, you can read the article here. Openmoko are definitely in the right direction, I wish them much success.

  12. Iran Vs Iraq on Firefox Breaks 8 Million, Gets Into Guinness · · Score: 1

You can create many interesting hypothesises from viewing those download statistics. For example, why does Iraq have only 1,754 downloads, compared to Iran which has 535,796? Do you think this is mainly due to the war on Iraq? As you would assume that the cultures were quite similar that their would not be a huge difference between them software wise. Or am I just stereotyping? One hypothesis is that 'there is a directly proportional relationship between the percentage of the population that downloaded firefox and the standard of living', or it could be just that their is preferred browser in that area, similar to preferred IMs in different parts of the world. China has 1 billion people in population and just over 700k downloaded the browser .. yep, time to stop rambling and get back to work.
