jailbreaking the iPhone is hardly inconvenient.
Run program, choose firmware, hit next a couple of times and voila. If you screw up, you can easily restore your iPhone/iPod touch.
ps. There's an application for "jailbroken" iPhones that disables the killswitch.
I fully agree. My wife's HP tablet has more USB ports than the MBP I'm typing this on. Surely adding more ports is the way forward, or at the very least, not removing them?
I immediately thought of the systems biology in Arthur C. Clarke's "Rama" trilogy. The part in Rama Revealed where Nicole and Richard are walking across the octospiders land and they run across the energy producing pools, where the starfish like creatures are rewarded when they release their built-up energy charge by getting food. If we can get to that level of efficiency at some point will we be better off than by strictly going a chemical route?
I got my MBP with Tiger. Installed Leopard fairly shortly after it came out. 10.5 was pretty sucky in terms of stability, but 10.5.1 was groovy. Boot times are fairly consistent with Tiger boot times, maybe a couple of seconds slower than Tiger. My wife's HP Vista laptop OTOH...egads. And that's even after removing all the HP shitware that comes with it.
Exactly. In Korea, it's mostly because the government won't allow entry into the domestic market without the inclusion of WIPI (Korean developed middleware). So it's basically a Korean phone or nothing over here (although Motorola did do well with their RAZR line for a time, but it fell by the wayside as Korean manufacturers started to put out some really nice looking phones). If the iPhone had been released in South Korea this year, they would have sold out in a heartbeat. Koreans love gadgets, and they are very susceptible to trends. Guess the corporate lobby works pretty well over here, no competition for Samsung/LG/HTC yet...
On a side note, that's a good handle "wisebabo"...
That GP2x Wiz is from a South Korean company, actually there office is pretty close to where I work, I'll have to go check it out. It's great they're running linux, I was checking out an event that Asus put on for the eeePC and it was basically impossible to find one running Linux. The staff all said they sold them with Windows. So while this is offtopic, at least the post proved a little bit useful.
There are no gregorian chants in the video. The author's name is Stephenson, not Stevenson; and eloquence is generally not an attribute one assigns to slashdotters! (I jest...)
That video was terrible. Someone above mentioned a college video project, high school seems to be a more appropriate designation.
At least there's one good omen this year, which is that the book comes out on my birthday.
Ok, since I need to be pedantic. If Apple was primarily a software company, they wouldn't be losing money. Since Apple makes most of their money through hardware sales (be it computers, iPods, or iPhones) they can be considered a hardware company. MS was never anything but a software company (barring their hardware accesories) so your comparison is invalid. It's fairly widely known that hardware sales at Apple drive OS development. I would suspect that the clones winning this legal battle would force Apple to lower their hardware prices, and raise their software prices.
Apple hasn't cared about hackers running OS X on whatever hardware they like. If the did, then sites like the OSx86 project would find nasty letters threatening them with a takedown.
However, when a company like Psystar decides to start making a dent in Apple's (slight) market share then surely it's not unexpected that Apple responds as they are. Ask yourself this: if there were no Apple, would there still be a Psystar?
If Apple was a software company, then they wouldn't be losing money. Since Apple sells complete packages and makes most of their money on hardware sales, if Psystar wins, it could spell the end of Apple. Without Apple, no more OS X development. Parasites are never beneficial to anything but themselves.
I have serious doubts about that diet report. Professional bodybuilders like Ronnie Coleman (8 times Mr. Olympia) and Jay Cutler eat around 10,000 calories per day. They weigh up around 270-300lbs during competition, and Michael Phelps weighs 187lbs according to the first article. Phelps also eats a lot more carbohydrates, which don't burn fat as efficiently as protein. So I'd have to say that IMO the report is exaggerated. I will agree with one thing though, which is that people who aren't training for olympic events should not be trying to eat that much food!
Land of the free! Yeah! To protect (rich people's assets) and serve (you with warrants and beatings). Go Team America! Seriously though, are things really that bad in America? If so, why the hell does everybody want to move there? Maybe lack of information? Many Koreans I've talked to have changed their attitudes in the last 5 years with regards to America being the most desirable place to live. Australia and Canada seem to have replaced it as the best place to live.
I have a daughter, and I decided that actually participating in the vacations with her is much better than filming them. Recitals/performances are of course of a different nature (though she's only had a few since she's 3 and half...)
This obsession parents have of documenting every step their children make is really detrimental to family interaction...
Pffft, they'd have to deal with too many people in the meatspace. Japan, China (Shanghainese), Korea...they love to be outside, pursuing the glorious goal of consuming, and being seen doing so.
Chinese women in Shanghai? I beg to differ. Shanghai has been an international city for a long time (compared to many of the major cities in Asia), the people are used to seeing foreigners, and in some parts of Shanghai (Pudong mostly) it almost seems as if you're in a Western city (a very bizarre and not quite right Western city, but still...). Anyhow, my point is that there are plenty of attractive women in China who will get into bed with a foreigner, especially at a "discotheque".
Please mod parent up for truthiness. It's ridiculously easy to jailbreak, and impossible to brick one.

You want them to blow up Steve Fosset?
They're Korean programmers. That's basically a sign right there that anything they put out won't work on Linux.

ah fubar..undoing incorrect moderation.
*shrug* who knew that "s" came before "t" in the alphabet?

Usain Bolt goes for McNuggets
Seriously, the guys is amazing. He doesn't need any fancy timing technology. Just some weird food technology.
How is the parent marked insightful? Funny yeah... insightful?

Samsung has these already:
Samsung i80
but no web browser of course, and no appstore (or alternatives).
If you give a Windows Mobile phone to the average 50 year old, they'd be unable to do much of anything. Just saying. -Taylor
Yeah, but a hip 15 year old couldn't do anything with Windows Mobile, either.
So really you're saying that nobody can do anything with Windows Mobile except losers?

I'm fairly sure the grandparent was agreeing with the GGP.

Only a fool would think that an attractive chinese women in chinese disco is going to go to bed the first night with a westerner.
You've clearly never been to Asia. Rest assured you can see many examples of exactly this happening all over Asia.
Now send in 007 to get that Blackberry!
