We use lotus notes too and on Dells as well and the only downside to it is the server connection which locks everything up and makes it useless. If the network was solid all the time then Notes would be perfectly acceptable.

As far as a lot of business go unfortunately they are the only options or PHP which isn't really better though at least it's more open than .Net.

I'd love to find a good job where I can use Python but that will have to wait because the few Python jobs around here aren't web related and require C as well and unfortunately I can't bring myself to lie about my skills so I will need to brush up on my C.

The difference being is I can easily apply for 10 Java jobs now and I'd have to go out of my way to avoid .Net jobs. I'm all for a perl revival.

Even if you do well in your degree you'll still struggle without the basics. I've a few people that have absolutely appalling spelling in jobs and yes they get by but people also think less of them because they do stupid things like spell through as threw and pretty as pritty or, in the case of one guy, spells something as somethink. They'll never move up because people view them as morons whether or not they have a degree.

Given Google's customer support I'd say they're not entirely professional. I think customer support should be the most important thing especially when asking people to try your new way of doing things. Leaving people virtually the only option of asking for help on message boards is pretty awful and their documentation appears to not get updated that much even when it starts becoming out of date.

Google has good coders who write awesome software with exceptional APIs and they have excellent ideas (yes, even Wave, imo) but they need to sort out their support.

Compared to a lot of new games yes Contra seems hard but that's because it's not a common genre any more really. A lot of people struggled with 3D at first and now they don't. I personally think anything said about Contra now isn't that accurate. I play Contra 4 for the DS on the bus which is probably the worst play to play video games and I'm don't do bad at all with it. I was a bit rubbish at first but I hadn't played a Contra game in years.

Not everyone is good at every game. For instance my mom or dad would totally fail at Halo even on the easy setting. Does that mean it's too hard?

That's the thing games aren't movies and are supposed to require skill. Some will require more than others. Sure it. Sucks for some people but that can be said about any physical game too.

  16. Re:Difficulty Settings! on Are Games Getting Easier? · · Score: 1

The thing is Contra 3 isn't that hard. I was by no means a great player. I couldn't beat a Mega Man game to save my life nor have I ever got half way through one but that is probably more down to the fact I've never been that excited about Mega Man. I could beat Contra 3 and without the extra lives cheat. Hell the neighbour's 12 year old could beat it.

The problem is people aren't willing to put any effort into trying. They expect games to be like movies rather than something that takes skill. If I want to watch a movie then I will watch a movie and I certainly don't want to pay $60+ / £40+ for a movie and one that will have a weak rehashed story.

I rather pay for something I can work and feel like I've conquered something and I think most people would feel the same if the content was compelling. Don't forget that we have had huge million seller games since at least the NES days.

The reality is companies want you to get through the game as soon as possible so you will buy another game. The idea that a game could give you a month or longer of entertainment is a no-no these days. They want you putting that game aside as soon as possible.

That is the whole reason for achievements. You can burn through a load of games doing a bunch of mind numbing tasks to grow a huge collection of achievements to compensate for your penis size. Achievements are not different from high cores other than the fact a huge collection of little icons looks more impressive than a collection of numbers so it will attract more people into buying games they wouldn't normally buy so they can have more achievements.

Leaving your door open still requires someone to go onto your property and actually depending on what they're doing in some instances they are allowed into your house if you leave your house open. All they have to do is say they were concerned that your house was attacked and stepped in to check on you.

Taking pictures of naked people viewable from the streets isn't illegal. The whole tabloid media makes huge chunks of money from doing that.

The original poster is correct. While Google shouldn't have collected the data they are the people you have to worry about the least. People are opening themselves up to anyone to potentially allow them to do whatever they want with your data. Google came clean and admitted to what they were doing without anyone forcing them to. I'd be more worried about all the other people that were potentially doing the same thing for illegal means.

Rather than picking on Google it would be much more productive to get on the backs of network hardware manufacturers and find out why they're making the defaults for their hardware insecure. They should make it harder to make enable your hardware to be open than to be closed.

The only thing that will come out of picking on Google is that this gets reported numerous times and more and more people are made aware of how easy it is to mess with people's internet connections. I'm not saying this shouldn't have been made public. Google should answer for their mistake but they're not the real problem and no matter what happens to Google the underlying problem does not go away.
