Yes I do think it can be informative and I wouldn't have wanted the topic to be removed from Slashdot. My original point is that it's not that big of a deal despite the amount of attention this has received across the internet. Being interesting doesn't make it important.
Everyone including NASA makes mistakes. Facebook is not going to be perfect and quite frankly I can live without finding out for 2.5 hours that my friend bought a new shirt. I'd be more concerned about someone like NASA reaching perfection long before I would ever care about Facebook reaching perfection.
Like anyone else just treat them like human and don't try to change them. If you don't like how they live then they'll never be right for you. That can be applied to men or women.
My Blockbuster was freaking huge. Even old titles had duplicates. It was hard not to find a title and I never had an issue with late fees so it was awesome. I like online rental too but what I like the most is buying the movie and actually getting something for my money. DVDs aren't exactly expensive these days.
$500 for 10 years isn't that bad. Anyone who can't afford $50 a year probably shouldn't have a VCR fullstop. Given that VCRs were on their way out 10 years ago I could only assume the $500 would have more features and a higher quality where as the $50 one will literally just do a bog standard job. I think anyone who wants a bog standard job wouldn't buy the expensive one. Those who may want to retain the best recording quality or want different sorts or connections will pay more.
I have nice things and cheap things. It depends what I want and most other people will be the same. Cooks will buy exepnsive pans but they appreciate and will probably own them longer where as it would be lost on me.
That said buying virtually eveything from wal-mart is a good sign you've failed in life and probably live in a trailer.
I believe the ones I use are Windows based which does concern me but the only issue I've seen is when they're started up first thing on a Monday morning they're insanely slow. I can only assume there is some sort of updating background task going on and the things are too low powered to do more than one or two tasks.
I love self check out. They're faster and you can guarantee you won't get stuck behind some old slow-poke who's barely conscience.
The only issue I have is they do eat into low-paid jobs. That won't be a problem unless governments decide it's just easier to take my money and support people who would have held low-paid jobs.
They stole the dog and the police don't think it's a crime and what a scam if you're expected to pay for a chip in your pet and it's no better than taping a sign that says "please don't steal me" on your dog's ass? Those chips are pretty expensive and to find out it's a complete waste of money means they should be illegal because it's a scam.
Why would I want to buy a new VCR or CD player when I have a working one? That's the kind of bullshit consumer mentality that Wal-Mart survives on. Computers are different. Software evolves and requires more power but a CD is a CD. There is just not reason to buy a new player if you have one that works. Take care of your stuff and it won't look like shit in a few years.
I believe mid-range on most anything is the best option. High-end stuff is purely a brand name and nothing more. Cheap stuff is cheap. Sometimes it's acceptable sometimes it's not.
One exception I think I'd make is with computers. I've yet to see anything low end that's acceptable. Sure if I shop around and build something myself then odds are it will be ok but especially with laptops I'd never go low-end.
In fact I've bought my first macbook pro and I think I'm going to be hard pressed to buy anything else when this one is done. Even if I want Windows or Linux I think I'd just buy a Macbook and replace the OS.
The thing runs ice cold, it's nice and thin. The metal case does feel more quality and I've not seen another laptop with a better screen. Apple's claim of 9-10 hour battery life on the 13 inch is spot on on from my experience. Hell, I've been downloading, coding and surfing the net tonight for nearly 4 hours and have used less than 50% of the battery and my screen brightness is over 50% and my back lit keyboard is on despite not needing it. Plus it boots to a usable desktop in under 5 seconds and shuts down instantly. Mind you Linux can more or less do that on the right hardware but seriously this is by far the best laptop I've had. Nothing feels cheap on it and you can't say that about a Dell.
Oh and on the subject Dells are only cheap because the remove so much stuff. By the time you pay the £30 they want for flipping Bluetooth and something like £15 for a wireless card that'll do 802.11 n, then a backlit keyboard, extra memory, etc and bring it up to spec to a Macbook it's not that much cheap especially when you add in an SSD which they won't sell you on a low-end laptop you have to buy that extra and bin the HD. Yes you'll still save a couple hundred pounds but it's a plastic Dell laptop doesn't look nearly as nice in anyway and if the ones at work are anything to go by it'll start getting all loose and feeling tired in a short period of time.
That is often true but not always. I don't drive since moving to the UK so I walk a lot and unfortunately buy more shoes than I'd like. I've bought shoes ranging form like £10 to £80. Yes, in most cases they all last approximately the same time. Comfort is hit or miss. Generally the mid-range seems to be the best where as high-end stuff is purely a name tacked on average shoes. Low-end is of course cheap buy they seem more likely to not feel as good.
I'm not sure if I got lucky or not but the last pair of Diesel trainers that I've bought have so far lasted the longest and are definitely comfortable. I paid £70 for them. I was a bit hesitant but I'm glad I did.
I probably will give them at least one more try again but I believe the quality of the shoe you depends more on the individual that made it than the price or at least that's what I gather from my experience so it's completely hit or miss so might as well get something that looks a bit nicer sometimes.
But of course if you always get something comfortable and cheap then you'd be insane not to go for those.
Don't discount a quality vacuum. Yes they're more costly but the Kirby I had is something I'd fear getting near my balls. The Dyson I have not fails even on hardwood. I'd hate to think what it leaves behind in carpet. Luckily I don't have carpet.
the Dyson would be improved if I wash the filter now but not by much and it'll pretty much be back to "normal" after a week or two. The plastic bits broke early on. I fixed them with super glue. I suppose that's not bad that I can fix it but having nice metal parts that won't just break is better.
You lose all credibility by listing Epic as a good developer. They are not. Their intro into the FSP genre was plagued by awful code, their first UT was pretty fucking basic until they saw what Quake 3 was doing and copied ideas from them. UT originally didn't have strafe animation or damage decals. Then the community fanboys complained that the superior QUake 3 was making their game look like shit so they only then added in those basic things.
Let's not forget CliffyB's excuse for UT 2003 where he basically admits any game they do on their newest engine will be a bit lacking because they're just in it for the graphics. Even taking into consideration that he was likely only saying that to shill UT 2004, the fact is UT 2003 was cack and unfortunately UT 2004 wasn't much better. Hell even the latest UT was average at best. The GoW series is just recycling ideas borrowed from Id combined with "attitude" to help CliffyB compensate for being a short little man with issues over looking younger than what he is.
Don't get me wrong I love Team Fortress 2 but all of it is more or less the same. A lot of the maps are the same but just re-worked with improved graphics. The biggest difference was the removal of grenades which I'd gladly have back in exchange for the hats.
They're pretty average. There are awesome western developers like Blizzard and Valve but there is a lot of shit out there. Mind you Japan creates a lot of shit but we just don't get to see it like the horse racing sims they're obsessed with.
The Japanese that do cry about Japan losing relevance are just out of ideas. As long as Japan is the home of companies like Nintendo who pump out the cream of the crop like Super Mario Galaxy and Japanese hardware collectively outsells the one US hardware manufacturer then I fail to see how anyone can say Japan isn't relevant simply because they don't have a complete lock on hardware.
They still provide, imo, an on average higher quality set of games (mainly because they don't export their shit) and what concerns me about western developers are they are primarily ex-PC developers with this ship now patch later mentality and since console gaming has become more westernised it does seem we're losing more genres and getting more sequels. So even if the west pumps out a decent set of games their contribution of lowering expectations on hardware and innovation are the worst things they've introduced to console gaming.
Seriously, the Halo series has been fucking boring since day one. The only reason it gets any attention is because of all the circle jerking PC gamers that moved in and tainted console gaming with their love for release now / patch later and utterly fucking boring western developer action based gaming.
Halo gamers are the Sarah Palins of console gaming.
I think part of the problem is the game industry banks on children playing adult games. You can go back and look at things various company people have said about kids playing the games, the rules within communities makes assumptions that some are of the users will be kids and quite frankly I'm tired of it.
I do not hang out with children in real life, I don't play physical games, like pool or basketball, with kids and I don't want to play games online with kids. In the days of Quake it wasn't too bad but now you can hear them and it's annoying because it's not longer possible to pretend you're playing with all adults.
Yes I do think it can be informative and I wouldn't have wanted the topic to be removed from Slashdot. My original point is that it's not that big of a deal despite the amount of attention this has received across the internet. Being interesting doesn't make it important.

Who cares if it's down even for a day. Just talk about your pointless activities twice as long the next day.
What a useless reply.

What Crash Bandicoot and Jak or Spyro?

Atari was American and then bought by the French. So I'm not sure why you're lumping them in with the Japanese.
I've been using AMD for years so I don't really care. In fact I hope Intel does it and it has a considerable affect on their market share.
Someone's jealous they can't afford a macbook, imo.
I think you should stick to googling for Palin pictures to jerk off with and give up on giving your opinion.
It's facebook in black & white. That's me convinced this is a win.

Clearly you're not a parent because you don't understand. I suggest you listen to wise sages like Jenny McCarthy.
