  1. Every drive? on New HP Drive Lets You Burn Your Own Label · · Score: 1

What it could be interesting, is to make current DVD drivers to burn this kind of media, because then you will have to buy HP drives, like Yamaha did with Tattoo technology.

  2. A dream far away from here... on Anatomy of Game Development · · Score: 5, Interesting

Yeah, games were easy to make ten years aog, i coded a few but it was a "code" challenge, now it's different, most of the time someone built a nice engine and everyone make content for it, that's why many studios just focus on design, don't get me wrong, design it's important but programmers don't qualify often for game industry unless you want to built something new, something that is not a goal for many companies.

But hey! What do i know? I live in Mexico, there is a small or not-existant game industry at all!

  5. Mexico fees on Broadband Pricing Across The World? · · Score: 2, Interesting

Well, in Mexico for example with MegaRed for a home use we pay like 40us dlls for 384kbps using cable (well, they will change for the same price to 512kbps really soon). DSL in Mexico with Telmex we have to pay 54 us dlls for 256kbps (they will change that to 512kbps really soon too for the same price) In DSL we have no options, Telmex is a monopoly in our country, so no one can compete... Dialup is ile 17 us dlls for 56k, many ISPs do that now. But we have several problems, for example my Cable provider only lets you connect a PC to the cable, no problem sharing, but they limit your simultaneous connections, 30max, so if you share or use clients like BitTorrent, you suck up those connections and you can't connect :( Paying for commercial is like 60 us dlls for 512 or 100 us dlls for 1024 Of course there are other options but mostly local (local cable providers, local ISPs)

THe big rpbolem here it's the users and the sysadmins witch a lack of knowledge or the actitude "i believe everything in Norton's site". I remember a few weeks then it came out the RPC vulerability, sites like antivirus.com have it in "Low risk". Another example it's the people who rowks on my school, there are several sysadmins (like 4) and they sent an email about using a firewall, and that will fix the problem. I mean, you need to apply patches... you NEED to deploy fix tools, but no. Maybe it's not government, but come one, you can get a shell with the vulnerability too in a profesor computer, student's paradise? maybe. This misinformed users because of bad admins, it's like virus' hoaxes in E-mail...

Now, if they release this device here or probably anywhere else, this will be a total chaos, it can carry several implication to Sharing Networks, IRC and stuff, if we see problems becasue we can BUILD a player like this, now in hands of the vareage consumer?
And the problems will start when this player starts to raise in USA.

  16. Security? NO way on Cracker Gains Access to 2.2 Million Credit Cards · · Score: 1

We (IT People) need to achieve more security, maybe more strict guidelines could help, because a importar part from our industry depends on CC trasactions. USA have a privileged seat on this, because people are used to buy with CC, but for example, in Mexico people are afraid to make an online trasaction, even if it's more risky doing this in person. The people needs to be educated and we need to stop this, crackers are a menace, but i bet lots of sysadmins, security experts now how to crack a server, we need to use this knowledge to get better security, i know it can't be 100% secure, but we need to minimize this problems. Don't get me wrong, i'm not angry, but i live in a country where this kind of problems scare so hard, that they don't want even to check their account balance online, they go to an ATM to do that.
