  1. What about their MicroDrives? on IBM Spins Down · · Score: 1

What does this mean for their newer micro drives they have been developing? I was really looking forward to seeing these in my Gamecube, but Nintendo isn't know for making new agreements with new companies all to fast. Will they have to make an agreement with Hitachi to use them?

  2. Re:Butterfly Grid on FF XI Goes Live in Japan · · Score: 2, Interesting

I think it is also interesting to note that IBM is in a very tight relationship with Nintendo (they did develop Gekko, the Cube's CPU, after all). There is also talk that an IBM micro-drive will be the harddrive add-on used by the Cube (that would be darn cool). If this is true, what kind of relationship does Nintendo have with them in this deal???

  3. Nintendo = no price drop land (good) on Xbox Price Drops to $200 · · Score: 4, Insightful

People seem to assume that the Gamecube is an inferior piece of hardware, therefore it should be cheaper than the Xbox or PS2. I personally own a Cube and think the exact oppisite. Sure it doesn't play DVD's (but according to recent market survey's people are buying game system to play games, not watch their movies). It is also very important to not that Nintendo doesn't appear to be out to win the "console war". They are out to make a lot of money. This is something they have done successfully for years and years and years. Even in the time of the N64 they where raking in millions. Heck, last year was their most profitable year ever and they expect to only gain on that this year. Nintendo (and their shareholders) don't care if the Cube has the most sales worldwide (though I am sure they wouldn't mind). They want money...and they do that better than any console maker out there!

  4. Anandtech's review on NVIDIA Unveils (And Tom's Reviews) The GeForce4 · · Score: 3, Informative

Clue Number 1 this isn't real:
When you go under options. There are so called "special options", such as Z buffering, Fog, Texture Compressing and more. These aren't check boxes though, they are a radio button. It isn't like the Xbox only uses one of these options at a time...

  6. Norton doesn't mind it.... on X-Box Emulated (Not) · · Score: 1

I just thought I would let the world know that the Norton doesn't detect any kinda foul play here. I scanned the file and it came back clean...so though it appears to be a hox, it doesn't appear to be a damaging one!

  7. Christmas Gift on BBC Rerunning Radio Lord of the Rings · · Score: 2, Informative

I got this Radio Show set (13 CD's) for Christmas and must say it is very well done. If you can listen to it, I highly recommend it. It is interesting to see how it differeces from the movie at moments which differs from the book at times. Over all it is a very well done presentation and great for long road trips :)

  8. Slightly opinion based statements... on GameCube Hardware In Depth on Anandtech · · Score: 1

For the most part I enjoyed the read (though I already know what all was in my little Cube). I did have a problem with a few of the opinion based statements that where made though. The writter claims that faster load times on the cube are probably attributed to low geometry and lower resolution textures in games than that of the Xboxs. I have a feeling that this reviewer had a tendency to not look at the games he was playing. While some of the textures in Luigi's mansion might be viewed as graining...every other game has had UNBELIEVABLE textures and geometry. I guess he hasn't played SMB or SSB or Rouge Leader or anyother game for that matter. So...please take some of the statements in this review with a grain of salt and just look at the technical stuff stated.

  9. Gamecube Christmas on Good Games For Christmas? · · Score: 1

If you are a Gamecube lover like I am then you will probably been looking for these games:
Super Smash Bros Melee: what could possibly be more fun than beating the crap out of Pikachu as Princess Peach?
Pikmin: Miyamoto is a genius and has brought us another great game...I can't wait!
Sonic Adventure 2: Sonic on a Nintendo product...that is reason enough for me!

There are of course more, but these three are what I really want to get my hands on :)

  11. Gamecube Ownz All on Nintendo Game Cube On (Limited) Preview In 12 Cities · · Score: 0, Redundant

I am proud to say that I have played (for quite a little while) a Japanesse Cube that a friend of mine purchased. We played Luigi's Mansion, Wave Race: Blue Storm, and Super Monkey Ball for quite some time. Any person that isn't impressed by any of these three titles needs to have their head examined. Luigi's Mansion is a great game to play. The controls are tight, the graphics are very nice and the level of interactivity with the world you are in is great. Wave Race: Blue Storm has the BEST water effects of any game to ever be seen. The only water that has even been better is what is really in the ocean :) The character models look great and are animated superbly...great title. Super Monkey Ball is wierd. Wierd = fun in this case. If you ever played the old game (not a video game) Labryinth then you will love Super Monkey Ball. Then there are the mini-games in SMB and they own too.

All three of these games are stelire. I am very glad that I preordered mine already :)

The smaller discs seem to be getting all the luvin' lately. Nintendo is using the same sized disc, but DVD, for the GameCube. Matsushita (better known was Panasonic to us Yankee's) developed the technology for them. It can hold 1.8 gig's. I sure wouldn't mind getting ahold of portable MP3 player that could use one of them :)

I am using the RedHat RPM's on a RedHat 7.1 system and have had no such problems. There were a number of dependency issues, but nothing that a good old rpm -Uhv --nodeps wouldn't fix :) After getting everything installed via that method, everything is working fine for me. I believe you might have a problem other than the RPM's themself.

Everyone has been saying that XBox will be better for most (atleast for those of us that read /.) because Nintendo will be targeting the midget market. Have any of you looked at the titles being announced at E3...they are definitly starting to target the late teens, early 20 market. Here are a few examples:
Super Smash Bros Melee, NBA Courtside 2002, Raven Blade, Wave Race Blue Storm, Eternal Darkness, Metroid Prime, Star Wars Rogue Leader: Rogue Squadron II, Zelda, Mario Kart, 1080 Degree Snowboarding 2, Madden NFL Football, SSX Snowboarder, FIFA Soccer, Resident Evil Zero, NHL Hitz, NFL Blitz, Perfect Dark Zero, Virtual Striker 3, Phantasy Star Online, Too Human, Turok

Okay, now I am sick of typing titles. These aren't even all the titles that someone not in the midget market would love to play. Go to either e3.nintendo.com or gamecube.ign.com to get even more info.

Those are just my thoughts about Nintendo and us older people.

  21. Non-winblowz format with Discover on Disposable Credit Card Numbers · · Score: 1

There are plenty of CC providers that currently offer a feature like this. Discover currently has a system where you login via their web site and they will generate a number for you that "links" back your real account number. The online store you purchased from never has the real number, only Discover. So a hacker would have to get into Discover's database to get your number, and if they do that...well...you are all ready screwed :)
