Legitimate question: why is the Libertarian party so marginalized in America? Their platform basically represents everything that most Americans will claim to believe in, so why do they have so little support?

What people claims they want and what they actually want is two totally different things.

I would argue that Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich were closer to what Republicans and Democrats claim they wanted, but neither did well in their respective parties.

I get that, but this seems like an instance where the words "Operating System" is trying to be trademarked

Psion isn't trying to trademark it, it was already trademarked.

So this would be more like someone writing the first application that interfaces between hardware and software and calls it "Operating System". Then someone else write a similar program and use the term "Operating System" as a generic term for any application that interfaces between hardware and software.

It is weird to me that words are now patened and whatnot.... I get it but I don't.

It's not patented, it's trademarked. The point of trademark is so that it won't cause confusion in the marked place.

or do you think it would be OK for Microsoft to rename their OS to Linux and marked the hell out of it? You don't think that would cause confusion?

If you don't think trademark is a good idea, next time you're in a store, how would you know that the next Coca Cola bottle you buy is actually made by the Coca Cola company?

If CNN had refused to report on Iraq or any other such nation, they would be harshly criticized.

Maybe because American don't find "proper" reporting on Iraq offensive. OTOH, CNN (and American media) don't show flag draped coffins of Americans being flown home, or American soldiers suffering on the battlefield. Few people are criticized for that, and those are considered "anti-American" for mentioning it.

Warner wants a bigger piece of revenue for the videos being shown, but they're not thinking long term. It isn't just direct revenue of showing the videos, but the hype that comes along with it. If someone forwards a video to another person (or rather a link to the video) they are advertising that artist to their friends.

The "problem" is, the labels saw how much money companies like MTV made. They see places like Youtube as the next MTV and they absolutely wants a piece (or the whole pie) of it. Basically, MTV made videos valuable. Instead of seeing it like a promotional vehicle, they are valuable by themselves, and anything of value will not be given away for free, even if it breaks the industry (but that's the next CEO's problem)
