Methinks you missed the entire point of my post. Read it again, including the contradictory quotes. The government which creates monopolies is supposed to then break them?
Natural monopolies are rare, and it's only through government interference that we have the problem with many of our current monopolies to begin with. Those "dangerous" libertarians wouldn't have created the monopoly in the first place. It's the big government kooks thinking that more laws are the answer to all our woes who are truly dangerous.
Even so, this is a big project. If they're projecting 1GB/sec for a month, even if they use the latest massive hard drives (1TB) they'll still need around 3000 of them. Presumably they won't need them all online full time, I'd imagine they'll use some sort of hot swapping. Still, that's a lot of data.
Check the sponsors of this bill. Three out of four are Democrats. So much for hoping the other party would save us. They all need to go, violently if need be.
Hey shit-for-brains, this is a Senate bill and three of the four bills sponsors are Democrats. What the fuck does this have to do with Bush and/or the Republicans?
I think that a child that curses occasionally is simply acting human, and not something to be punished for saying a "bad" word. Children experience all the same emotions as adults - usually more unpredictably and less understood - so why should we be surprised when things come out of their mouths that they hear adults say in the same situations?
I was playing video games with my 8 year old daughter a while back and she was getting frustrated with the game. Out of the blue she mutters "What the hell?!" I was kind of shocked at first, because although I curse like a sailor when I'm around friends, I really try to watch my language while she's around. I've let a few things slip out here and there, but I can probably count my cursing around her on both hands. After what she said sank in, I tried to stifle my laughing and I talked a bit to her about appropriate things to say and moved on. No big deal.
As with most things with the US federal government nowadays, they're inventing bogeymen so they can save us from them.
Maybe I'm remembering incorrectly, but aren't there numerous religious cable stations? There are even some that show things other than TV preachers. They might be shitty sitcoms, but they're probably clean. There ya go. Stop whining.
When an online Viagra seller has the power to throw you in prison let me know. As for me, I'll worry more about the entity with nearly unlimited resources and the threat of violence knowing everything about me.
Of the people I actually know who they are, I recognized quite a few of those. If you couldn't, well I'm not sure what to tell you. Maybe you're just not good at that kind of recognition?
YouTube doesn't have to do anything. They can continue to follow the law and respond to the takedowns as they always have. Then the actual copyright holder can sue whoever issued the fraudulent takedown notice. Back when Viacom was blanketing YouTube with takedown notices, many of which were for material they didn't own, think of the billions of dollars that could have been siphoned from that company. Attorney's salivate over that kind of thing.
Abuse of the DMCA through fraudulent takedown notices should result in no less of a penalty than an actual violation of copyright. If a copyright owner can collect $150K per instance of copyright violation, then someone who fraudulently claims copyright on an item they do not in fact have a copyright on should be up against the same penalty.
I'm not the OP, but yes. All of those instances of government meddling really piss me off. I can understand the initial desire for government to interfere in markets, acting to create stability or incentive. Unfortunately it never takes long for those best intentions to lead straight to hell.
Copyright is a good idea. But it's run amok and now nothing ever enters the public domain.
Patents are a good idea. But it's run amok and now the little guy can't invent anything without being sued by a patent troll.
Corn subsidies stabilized the price of corn for farmers. But now it's considered an entitlement and between that and sugar tariffs, everything we eat is loaded with corn syrup. How much has this country spent fighting diabetes, heart disease, and everything else that comes with obesity caused in no small part by a diet of corn syrup? Was it worth it?
All that said, I do agree with net neutrality, for the very reasons you stated. The telcoms got filthy rich using their monopoly status and by stringing lines across everybody elses land without having to pay rent. They now want to change the rules of the game, in which case I think every American who has a phone company line running through their yard should send them a bill for rent. If they get to change the game, so do we.
Bullshit. The Xbox was basically a PC, and compare the games from the beginning of it's life to the end. Vast difference in quality. I have no doubt that 360 games will continue to look better as time progresses. The PS3 may in fact have more grunt than the 360 (though from what I've read, the 360 sounds to have the better graphics subsystem while the PS3 seems to have a far more powerful CPU) but to say that the Wii and 360 have already maxed out on their graphics is asinine.
I guess me and my friends who are all at least 31 years old DIDN'T actually get together and play several hours of Mario Party on the Wii last night. Thanks for setting me straight and letting me know that any game which isn't Zelda is simply a figment of my imagination.
As for playing the Wii meaning one is not an adult, you're just a fucking idiot. I'm not sure what more can be said about your lame opinion.
And how exactly do they retrieve just the domain name? I imagine it has to parsed out of the full URL from the HTTP header. And as the courts of ruled before for copyright purposes, they think that having a copy of something in memory is legally the same as having a copy on the hard drive. What's good for the goose is good for the gander, so this should be considered making copies of the entire HTTP header including all URL data and possibly even POST data. That's clearly beyond just having the domain name.
I like albums too. At the same time I realize that most popular "musicians" don't have the ability to create them. There are some excellent musicians who can create a dozen tracks covering 45 or more minutes which form a cohesive message or story. That's a small minority though. Most of the pop bands of today release a CD with a handful singles that are no way relevant to one another, and only two of which are good enough to bother listening to.
High quality artists can continue to create albums. One hit wonders should know their place in the world:
1. Accept the fact that most of their music isn't that good 2. Learn to be grateful that they had one hit song 3. Invest some of the income from their hit single instead of blowing the whole thing on drugs and hookers

Perhaps the answer is for cities to own and maintain the last mile infrastructure and let private companies handle anything beyond that.
So you need government to prevent what government created, and you think libertarians are confused?

It's been a while since I took grade school math, but $70 to $75 is a different scale than $100 to $200. At least by my calculation.
Ideally, but only if you'll be hunting liberal, socialist, commie hippies.

Funny, I never got the memo that recreational activities were the defining traits of adulthood.
Pray tell, what the hell do you do which makes you think you're an adult?

"courts of ruled?" Sorry I just woke up. "courts have ruled"

My family likes the internet just as it is. If your doesn't, I suggest you find a new tool for communication.
Nothing like completely misunderstanding libertarianism to make yourself look like a complete ass, eh moron?
What exactly do you propose photographers publish, if unable to create the photo to begin with?
