..and tagged "stupid." Seriously, this is just dumb. Every time I see something about headphones = hearing loss, it just irks me. It's not about the headphones or earbuds, it's the LISTENING VOLUME that is potentially dangerous. But come on, that's common sense. These article titles are FUD. But I get it, they want people to read their articles. No one's going to give a shit about an article entitled "Study Finds Listening To Music At Very High Volumes Leads To Hearing Loss." Might as well write an article entitled "Study Links Resting Hand In Fire to Third Degree Burns."
I think it's a psychology thing. There was a study a while ago (sorry, I don't have a link) that showed people were more attracted to models who had a "pissed off" look, than models who looked friendly.
QFT! Buffalo routers' range is quite excellent, beats anything else I've used. You can easily flash the router with 3rd party firmware such as Tomato (excellent option, I like it better than DD-WRT).
I love my Buffalo router, and expect it to last me quite some time..until I have a need for 802.11n, anyway.
greylistd is an option, though I haven't tested it thoroughly. For those not familiar with it, greylistd works alongside your MTA and rejects ALL incoming e-mails on their first attempt. On the second attempt after some time has passed*, it accepts the email and whitelists that IP/sender for a user-specified amount of time (defaults to 60 days I believe?).
The idea is that spambots do not attempt to redeliver rejected emails, whereas regular "legit" mail servers do. When an email is greylisted, the MTA sends back a special response similar to a rejection, though it does indicate that it's a greylist response. I can see that spambots will eventually get around this by attempting redelivery, I would think. So I don't see greylisting as a long-term solution, but I'd welcome any comments on this.
By the way, if anyone knows a sure-fire way to get spam mail sent to a particular email address, please reply to this comment and let me know. I need a real-world test.
*I noticed most servers attempt to send again within 15-20 minutes; that is also rejected as I suppose the greylist server thinks that's too soon...?
Nothing is ever really explained or examined in depth.
I dunno, there's a fair amount of explanation and depth going on here. But you're generally right, no one goes into too much depth, especially on TV. Probably because it will fly over the heads of most of the viewers.
I've always been impressed by Obama's ability to give a speech, and not actually say anything.
It makes him very popular. It's all vaguely positive. There's very little for anyone to actually disagree with.
Yeah, McCain's speeches are so much better (I'm a war hero, I'm a family man, I'm behind our troops, our economy is fine, I can't wait to introduce Sarah Palin to Warshington!) Don't forget, McCain is totally full of crap when it comes to helping out our troops.
Yeah I get that:) I'm using Hardy. But I don't see how it fits in with Windows Warriors, Ballmer's Boys, and the idea of someone in a store pushing marketing BS on you.
I'll admit it openly (without using the "post anonymously" cover) that I also didn't get the Hardy Heron joke. Someone care to explain? Yes, I get it that each of the names has two words that start with the same letter. But... "someone who can't help, and exists to market to you until you give in"? How does Hardy Heron fit that description?
CrashPlan is a really nice option IMO. You can backup your stuff to multiple friends' computers, and the files are of course encrypted (Blowfish, I think) before they're transferred over the network. You pay for a license but your friends don't, which is nice. Very affordable, too.
Didn't think so. Designers with formal design background know that that list is all you really need. Arial is a semi-clone of Helvetica, it's a good sans-serif font. Times New Roman will have you covered for serif. Georgia and Verdana are slightly off the beaten path for serif and sans-serif, respectively. I wouldn't WANT anything else used as the primary font. Imagine having to read paragraphs of crap using FancySwirlyCrap.ttf, because some designer thought it was cool. Ugh, no f'ing thanks.
I say no. Keep the web legible. Use the standard fonts, that's why that list is exactly what it is.
My dad doesn't know any better. He leaves his pr0n in his "Downloads" folder on his Mac, so every time people come over and see him using his computer, once in a while we get a little glimpse of flesh-toned thumbnails. Disturbing. One of these days I'm gonna have to ask him to file that shit away.
Ahh well, I just chalk it up to payback for all those Chinese hackers out there committing SQL injection attacks and other types of breaches. How's it feel, jackasses?
Yeah Ragnar is ok I guess. But BioWare has some of the top writers in the industry, period. KOTOR is one of the best when it comes to story and dialogue, the plot is far far more interesting than most of the shit Lucas has cranked out lately, for sure. Mass Effect was pretty good too, but did feel a lot like KOTOR. Now, Dragon Age I'm looking forward to, as that project has some of the same writers who also worked on Baldur's Gate II and KOTOR, which are both stellar.
Border guards testify that they saw child pornography on the defendant's laptop when the PC was on...
As someone who grows marijuana in his front yard and keeps Ukrainian sex slaves chained up in the back yard, I can say that the border guards' testimony is totally believable.
Now that I've read this tidbit, I'm sure this is how my Gmail account was compromised.
Last week, I noticed some logins from a Blackberry IP, accessing my Gmail via POP3, which I never use. Someone had apparently gone into my account, turned on POP, then set up their phone accordingly. Now, I have to say, my password is completely unguessable (think along the lines of something like %sprTres3005!). Furthermore, my password is not written down anywhere, and has never been used anywhere except Gmail and a couple banking web sites I use. NEVER used on forums, or bullshit misc. online services. Yet, somehow, someone got into my account. I'm convinced this aforementioned tool was how they did it.
I wonder if the Google Notifier for Mac OS doesn't use secure channels, and that's how they got me. The Google Reader Notifier actually does have an option "Always use https" which is good. I don't see that option in the Gmail Notifier, though.
Gimme a break..... I'd like a link to Eugene.

Anyone ever notice Bob Barr has a striking resemblance to J. Jonah Jameson in Spider-Man?
Your original post got modded as funny. I have a sneaking suspicion something has flown way over my head here, so I think I'll just shuffle away...

PS: Your acting sucks too.
Insult the man's beliefs, fine, they are crap, but his part in "Tropic Thunder" was hilarious.
Let's not forget The Last Samurai, either.
Kinda obvious (no more obvious than php.net being the best reference for php I suppose), but: http://docs.jquery.com/
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh, got it! Thanks.

I'm not a print designer.

That was a nice response (no joke). After reading that, I feel like we need a +1 Warm Fuzzies modifier.

It's because Batman installed his tracking transmitters in every cell phone in the world. That's why reception is spotty.. duh!
