My first large scale job out of college was WFH - 70% and Travel - 30%... It was absolutely awful.
I was young and working at a large company with little to no support. Near the end of my first year I had a break down and discontinued work there. I learned a lot from that situation. The biggest of which was how much I thrived of the energy of other people. Bouncing ideas around, or just having someone to look at as they walk by.
I'm not a programmer, but a Unix Admin. Just being around people is key to easing my struggle in this life. Weather I like the people or not, just having those minds and that energy around is essential to my survival.
I finished my last contract job up from home, and it was nice taking a break from the office. To work from another perspective. After 2 months of WFH I craved the office again.
For me I don't think I'd mind Office - 90% and WFH - 10%. Any less than 90% in the office and I feel separate from people. I get distant and spacey.
We all get down from time to time, "US" more than others. But the key is to get back on that horse when you can. Keep putting the good work out there when possible.
I contracted for a company and converted ALL desktops (75 of them) to Linux. At first the users were unconfortable but after a few months and no "wierd Windows problems" they were happy. CrossoverOffice (WINE) worked great in getting those apps I just couldn't replace. The users grew to love OpenOffice and Evolution. At first I tried SuSE, RedHat 9, Fedora Core, and Gentoo. For regular desktop users I found Fedora Core worked best and had just about everything they needed already installed. The people with scanners grew to love Gimp becuase of it's power over Paint (we couldn't buy Photoshop for everyone). The hardest thing was to find a good Terminal emulator with key mapping.

Look up this article. You will find it's a historical listing of women in the congress. Also the pdf download is corrupted. I wonder if they are hiding anything.
Having multiple desktops that switch fast with easy shortcut keys make me work tons faster. Also having a large screen resolution to have as many apps open at once is a large increase as well. I don't use OSX (would like to), but for Unix Server Managment using a Unix Like OS is far easier than using a Winodws OS.
Our roads in California a not very well taken care of, esp the ones that large trucks drive frequentally. Every year in California we hear that the Gas tax and other road taxes are being used elsewhere, it's pathedic. If they instituste this they are not looking to make the roads better, just for a way to tax people. And personally i'll disconnect my gps execpt for the weekends. I won't let the government know where I drive even if I'm not doing anything wrong.
I refuse to do computer stuff for people cause it takes up my time... If your a person that was recommened to me or it's a large job (over a few hours) I usually charge $10 dollars an hour. If your a close friend and it's a small fix I may either be in the mood or not, but I don't charge, as long as it's not ALL the time they are wanting help.
Dude I know what you're going through. I had an x86 Assembly class the teacher was known as tough ass and the homework was almost impossible. Needless to say, at the end of the semester out of 19 people only 2 had all of their programs in and were passing the class with a C.
While working at my job the following summer I interviewed some kid straight out of USC. We got talking and it turns out that he got an A in his Assembly class, so we started to compare notes. The teacher that I had was far ahead of his teacher, he would have been one of the failing in my class.
My suggestion, some schools are easier than others. But you really have to know if you want to learn somthing or just get your diploma. I for one want to learn somthing but I don't want it to be impossible. I have a friend who took the easy way out, sure he has a good paying job but they guy gets by one asking on of his friends (who stayed in a good school) how to get things done. I would fell much better about myself if I stuck with the tough stuff.
You were an inspiration to a lot of teenage kids back on ST:TNG. Your character gained powers that would let him do anything or be anywhere. Ever thought about a small role in ST:E? Also I have seen you in some soft core pr0n movies, ever though of going for the gold and moving into full fledged pr0n?
from the sound of it these people are mad becuase they think it's the use of Zelda and whatever that is the issue... that it is not... the issue Nintendo is having is that they are being represinted on a web site that is not moraly pure and Nintendo would like to keep their image clean... Now that being said I don't really know if Nintendo would have a right to remove such content. It's not as if it's a real advertisment or anything.
My Dad does a lot of teaching kids and newbe computer people. We he found to work for him was to use information out of books that are ment to teach computers to the elderly. These books explain things well and explain them in a nice and easy way. Kids have been catching on at a pretty good rate. He takes about 3-5 books and creates lessons out of each of them.
well buddy you have two options. They are commonally called the Backspace -------- key and the Delete key. Holding these down will rapidly erase text. It's a novel idea, one that i'm sure will loose itself in the hussle of the world today. Also in most BIOSs there you may have an opprotunity to set the repeat speed of you keys on your keyboard. Thus increasing the speed of your deleting. (GNOME 2.6 also has this functionality)
Well let me start off. I was dianosed with SchizoAffective disorder, it like Bipolar mixed with Schizophrena about 1 year ago. I have not been able to concentrate very well and thus am not working right now. Getting the medication straight was the real first thing, getting some anti psychotics really helped everything work. Just if you want to know I am on 150mg of Lamictal, 4mg of Risperidone, and 20mg of Prozac. This helps slow you mind down and get it back on track. Also I am involved with a young adult group, most of them are bipolar and some are schitzo. This really helps me come to grips with what has happened with my life. Adapting after shuch a mental break is hard and you will never get over comparing yourself to how you used to be. But talking about it with other people in the same situation really helps quite a bit.
The industry is mostally at a stand still. I have my RHCE and my CCNA, and still no jobs. I send out resumes through Monster and HotJobs(Yahoo), call companies, and appear in person with no avail. It seems all hopeless right now.
I have been a System and Network Admin. Many programmers say i'm probably the coolest one arround. All I tell them is I'll cut as many corners as I can, but the rules are the rules, and they are there for only ONE reason, to save you an the company. And of course there are the other rules that companies impose that i can't even get rid of, but we have to live by them... Those are the rules I fight against for sanity and for the pure sake of common sence...
Programmers and Office type like me because of the pure common sence, nothing else.
wow, never seen somebody spend soo much time trying to kill an os. Krazy... anyways, i was wondering where i go to sign up to be a linux fag and a monkey wackin off on drugs... you seem to know so much i was just wondering where you went?
I have a Blkin KVM and my only non server is Linux running X11. The mouse wheel works fine, when I switch the KVM and then come back to my Linux desktop the up scrool stops working while the down scrool works fine. When I restart X11 it all works again. It seems that when I switch on the KVM X11 then starts loosing some of the mouse functionality, but the consoles seem unimpaired.
Great!! I was reading SportsIllustrated and they had a small article about Jessy Jackson wanting to stop the "Masters" golf tournament becuase the name masters might refer to the slave masters in the south. fyi
This is just swell... not difinitave answers... but I will comment just like everyone else. I have this 91/2 year ols Samsung SyncMaster 4c I got with my 486 DX way back in the day. I works great other than it doesn't go above 1024x768 and the cable broke only to find out that the cable on the back of the monitor is an EGA Female plug, so now I have 2 adapters and a backwards VGA (switchbox) cable just to use the damn thing... been thinkin about a flat screen, but they are too damn slow... you see trails on any fast moving image.

can you believe they are trying to impose 8 character user names???
And what's with the not being able to select packages on install... it's just one size fits all.
BAH!

I have been playing poker for a few years now and have found pokerroom.com, they have a Java interface and it will work with any OS.

Check out software made by Ulead. They need lots of patches but work great.
This product is WAY OLD.
