They actually talked my friend's mom into getting a wireless router, Geek Squad charged her to set it up, but they did not put the wep key into her computer, and the wep key they wrote down on the post it note was wrong. 11. Re:Robots on The Secret Lives of Amazon's Elves · · Score: 1

If a couple repair bots are built, you will be good. If all your repair bots break, well that is a problem in your code. Only use a second repair bot when the 1st one breaks. fix the first one, and then have the first one, which is now fully repaired, swap roles and become the second repair bot. Have a third repair bot as an absolute backup that will only repair if the first and second repair bots are broken, and then become the primary repair bot, while the repair bot that was last serviced will then become the new third repair bot.

As for robots, I know that Oriental Trading Company uses one, it cost them about 1million. I got a buddy who works there and he says that the machine rarely ever messes up. Seriously, it cost less than 2 million for it.

If you spend 10million on robots one year and they work for 5 years, than you are really only paying 2,000,000 a year.

Now if an employee makes 11 an hour and only works 40 hours a week, a single employee would cost the company 23760. Now if there are 60 employees, it would cost the company 1,425,600 a year.

Now we are talking about 12 hour days, 6 days a week. 60 employees would cost the company (not counting overtime pay) 2,566,080. Add in overtime, and you can see that this number is just rising and rising. If Amazon provides any type of benefits like insurance or anything, Amazon will put some money forward for that too.

It will cost more for humans than robots. If you set the system up properly, a fully automated factory would work just fine.

  13. It depends on where you work on Why Coder Pay Isn't Proportional To Productivity · · Score: 1

I know that where I work, most of my best work is done behind the scenes. I get it done, tell my boss that I want to be the one to demo it to the client since it is awesome, but it ends up being an engineer and my boss demo'ing it.

I am currently an programmer analyst.

I somehow landed on the team of pretty much all really good programmers.

Now, the pay is not the best, but I do know that every 6 months, we have a review and are actually given numbers based on our performance. Now, the performance does not have to do with time barriers (unless we constantly do not hit the deadlines), but on aspects like how independent we are (i.e. we get a project and not sitting in our team mates cube the entire time asking them about it), team work (i.e. we all do our part that is given), and normal factors such as showing up to work on time and stuff like that.

I agree that with many programmers today, it is very difficult to get as noticed as some of the old school programmers since alot of code that is truly worthy of being called a breakthrough has been done already, and many of us, like myself, simply program on top of that breakthrough.

I personally think that an uber programmer can do a couple things:
1.) be given specs and know exactly how to do them. Maybe not right away, but they will be able to do it. I do it every once in awhile, and I know that some of you probably do as well. We will sit there just thinking and getting everything in place in our heads not touching the keyboard, and then everything will just click and we will go nuts
2.) Constantly learning. Some people will just refuse to quit learning, and it will show. We will be working, and then they will learn about something new, try it out, and then tell everybody else about it.
3.) Is the first person to show everybody their code. I work with a couple dudes who do this. The dudes are seriously brilliant. They will get done with a chunk of code, and want to share it with everybody. On the other side, there is one guy who will do a chunk of code and compile it, then share it so that only that person ever knows what is in that code. I just think if you an uber programmer knows they wrote something amazing, they will want, at the very least, people on their team to see it.
4.) Solve problems in other people's code extremely easily. Again, this goes back to this guy I work with. Regardless of the issue with a script kiddies code or just a programmers code, this person will look at it, think about a little bit, and then just solve it.

Of course, these are just my opinions dudes. If you think I am incorrect, I already know you will say something, I just figured I would throw this out there

There are alot of games that keep up on our feet now. Microsoft would need to check and ensure I am not playing one of those games.

We would also need to consider coaches, managers, team owners, everybody.

If you are going to narrow it down to just football players, than you need to also narrow down the IT field to just programmers.

Well, my boss did note that I push hard to hit our goals on my 1 year review of my work, but that is what I got and that was about it.

It was supposedly a kick against the commercialism of Christmas and commercial dominance in the music scene, although Rage and the X-Factor winner Joe McElderry were actually signed to the same label. Despite this minor detail, it's interesting to note that this is the first song to reach the number one spot through downloads alone in the UK, and is a testament to the organizational power of social networking sites like Facebook.

Yeah, if you want to show how people can get together to slow down the commercial dominance in the music scene, especially around X-Mas time, call me crazy, but why would you select a band that is a part of that music.

I just think it is very strange to pick a band that is signed to the same label as the X-Factor dude who you did not want to have this.

The big name label that you wanted to avoid getting paid is still getting paid, so did you really do anything to fight commercial music when the exact label you wanted to fight against, you just helped get more sales.

Dude, that is not a minor detail, in fact, that is a pretty big fail there kids. Remember, if you are fighting commercialist music, do not vote for a band you like that is signed to the same label of the stuff you are fighting against.
