It's called the internet. The rest I see over the air on bunny ears in crystal clarity (much better than the compressed stream from comcast). I just wait 1 hour to 1 day from original broadcast and I can get any tv show I want to watch from online. $7/mo extra to rent a box (that I can't buy like my modem) to do what my hdtv does natively, yeah good luck with that.
"Why are they over subscribed?" you ask? Because customers expect broadband internet at dial-up price, and the pipes simply cost more than the average end user realizes.
I'm calling bullshit on this one. And a citation required as well.
The ISPs were given a monopoly. The pipes were subsidized by our taxes. So were upgrades to them. The money was pocketed. I feel no remorse for them if they go out of business. Get rid of the monopoly and watch the big greedy fuckers die and the price comes down due to competition. Once all the initial pipe is laid, the costs should be no different than any other country. And many of those are at lower than dialup costs.
It's difficult because I paid for my internet connection. Who the hell are they to tell me the people that use the service they paid for less often is the more important customer? Last I checked the people that used your service the most were your best customers. If I use the service the most I should get priority, not the people that use it the least. Either way we both paid the same amount and should get equal treatment. "Traffic shaping" (more accurately called packet forgery or fraud) is an insult to both parties.
Netbooks aren't made for HD video. They're made for internet use and word processing. Portability, not power. I'd like to be able to use mine for 720p video, but on a 10" screen that can't do 1280x720 anyways what's the point?
Doing what? Being in standby mode? Or actually using anything? Even my EEEPC 1000 says 7-8 hours of battery life and I get 4-4.5 using wifi/internet or watching video. So I'm guessing this will have 5-6 hours of actual use battery life.
nothing makes me smile more than grown men who need their wife/girlfriend/friend to get out and guide them into *giant* spot. Buddy,... there is only two inches between the guy in front and the guy behind and do it without tapping either bumper. It takes a while, but as I said, when you look for 25 minutes to find a spot--if I even think I can fit, fuck it, I'm going in!
Funny how you can omit a few words and it takes an entirely different context...
about shit like this. Anytime I expect someone to come to my house that isn't friend or family, I may not ask for an ID but I always come to the door with a wrench or other heavy tool in my back pocket. It really doesn't surprise me this happened. I've never had a single tech from cable cos that seemed like they even graduated grade school, let alone were competent with electronics. The last guy that came to my home took the modem I own (after telling him THREE times it was indeed MINE) and swapped it with a rental modem and then activated it. The guy couldn't speak more than 5 words of english. Had to call in my account activation three times because his own company couldn't understand him. Then I saw him checking his personal email on my computer. It's been three weeks and my modem is still missing.
You do if you want to do science, or be part of the global economy, or just not be an ignorant american. (I happen to me an american and in the science field)
Also, DNA is degraded by UV, so unless this is at a specific wavelength of UV that doesn't interact with the DNA molecule itself this definitely won't be longer lasting.
Is there a drop in luminosity compared to other leds? I mean this is really cool but if it isn't going to be as bright as any other process to make LEDs it's almost moot. Especially if it costs a lot more to make.
Why not use something like those little fan/whistle things they sell to put on your car? The ones that emit a high pitched noise that deters deer and other animals from approaching the road when you drive by. There's obviously already wind available to generate the sound, so just tweak it to emit a pitch only the bats can hear. Zero extra energy requirement.
Is this per OS or per computer? I have 3 computers. 1 runs linux exclusively, the other two dualboot linux and xp. I mainly use xp for gaming and HD media (I haven't tried getting vdpau to work yet) and linux for pretty much everything else. Can I buy the linux version once and use it on all my computers or do I need to buy it 3 times?
My eee pc 1000 has the perfect size keyboard for me, although the right shift button could have had better placement. So 8.9" is going to be a little too small for me. The non-removable battery is also a deal killer. My issue with my netbook is the network card isn't supported by some of the software, uh, 'tools' I use, the battery life is almost half what they say it is, and the performance could be a tiny bit faster (only issue that really bugs me is not being able to watch 720p on it). What I ultimately want is a 10" netbook with a touch screen, linux (preferably ubuntu), removable battery that actually lasts longer than 5 hours, enough performance to watch 720p, solid state drives (for durability), fast wifi with long range and support for the software I use, and bluetooth, for $500 or less. I don't understand why they make tablets with keyboards on them. My gf has a phone that is touchscreen and just has a plastic flip cover that the touchscreen can still recognize touch commands through. Why they don't make the whole computer with the touchscreen on top and just a clear flip cover on it instead of the keyboard and trackpad is beyond me. Just have a virtual keyboard pop up when you tap a keyboard button on the desktop or on the spot to enter text like my Archos media player does. If they put all this together and engineered it well I'd scoop it up in a heartbeat.
Simply because we're switching the entire fleet of computers to Mac systems. A lot more reliable, a lot less expensive, a lot easier to manage.
I take it you have never seen the price tag on a Mac before... I've seen systems with identical hardware for half the price of a Mac. A third of the price if you build it yourself. They are certainly NOT less expensive.
Congratulations, you've just repeated the same inaccurate info that the environuts have been spewing for years. The very reason nuclear energy is so scary in our culture. The tech has progressed. The newer designs of nuclear plants are self limiting. They CAN'T have a meltdown unless you maliciously and purposefully try to make it meltdown. If you fall asleep at the switch it just shuts down. The radioactive waste can be used directly in other types of nuclear reactors as well as refining it to do the same. We can keep doing this until the waste has a halflife within a generation. You have a greater risk of dying from car crashes than living near a nuclear plant. Stop spewing the same tripe fed to you from the nutters.
My only issue is does this VDPAU support in VLC come natively or do I have to do something asinine like compiling the damn thing myself instead of just offering a parallel download (name it VLC-HD or something like that)?

Let me say, go fook yourself, buddy!
Thanks guy...
Fixed that for you.
Plus they generally aren't big enough to effectively body surf on.
Oh man, wish I had mod points...
We've just tangented from one meme to another so seamlessly it's almost INCONCEIVABLE!

After startup that is.
I'm beginning to think this thing is cursed.

WOOSH!
Someone missed the point. The fact that 128 kbs is the current standard is fucking sad.

It's a sad state of affairs in the music world when 192 kbs is considered 'higher quality.'
America! Fuck Yeah!
Some of the G8x are supported but not all.

Is this anything like those "unbreakable" combs or MagLites which are guaranteed to never break? Cuz I've broken both. With proper normal usage.
