Here's where you are going to see how all politicians are the same be it they democrat or republican. It's the republicans this, it's the republicans that. Isn't it funny how the democrats are appointing people that worked or lobbied for whatever group that all the dem lovers and others as well hate. Vote Obama he's for net neutrality. You know that MAY be but here's his party ready to slip crap in like this that have nothing to do with the economy other than looking for ways to try to stick it to the consumer, you know the people who are the economy.

It's pretty obvious. You can BUY the paper book AND BUY the digital book AND BUY the book on tape AND BUY the CD spoken book AND BUY the digital spoken book. This is just another argument to BUY the same thing over and over again. The problem with this particular argument is that you have bought the book and you should have the right to consume it in whatever fashion you wish. One is certainly not "copying" it. It's not being copied to another device or blank media. I'm counting the days for them to try to close down every library in the world.

We already know they have the capability when they recklessly blew their own satellite up. So as for those comments of "we are so far ahead", ahead of who? Now we have Iran that just put a satellite up. All they have to do is get into some orbit with other satellites and detonate a payload full of any kind of fragmentary crap and there go billions and billions of dollars worth of satellites. That's what we need to worry about. Does one honestly thing a treaty would stop them if that's what they decided to do?

I don't know where those cell phone numbers come from either. Taking that percentage can't exactly be accurate. Certainly most 8 year olds and younger do not have a phone and probably many over 65-70+ do not have a phone. Between myself, my wife and my parents we have had a total of about 12 phones in the last 12 years. We still have all of them except for one that I lost. While the number is probably high I seriously doubt it's anywhere near 350,000. There's probably no accounting for passing these phones on to others like I did nor is there any accounting for resale on eBay, etc. Same probably holds true for computers. Probably no accounting for resale, donations, passing on to others.

I think we the taxpayers should bailout the poorly run entertainment industry. They have no clue how to run their businesses so it's pretty much just like the Wall Street of California. Let's give more money to the record industry execs, the multi-million dollar per picture actors and producers and studios. Sadly, of course, there will be no benefit to the song writers, the low-income actors, production staff, etc but what else is new.

As a follow up, many people mention talking to a lawyer first, some feel NDA is unenforceable. Should you wish to "compete" in the future it will likely lead to a lawsuit which means you'll need to pay for a lawyer then. Is all this worth it? If you do want to do this. They should be paying for the work you already did first as a separate fee. Then sign a contract to hire you for a minimum length of time. NDA is typical, non-compete is BS. That cannot be open-ended, two years after termination would be realistic but again this is dependent on how much money we're talking. Not worth it unless we're talking about big money.

  24. Copyright not patent on Sept 24 Is World Day Against Software Patents · · Score: 1

Patenting software needs to be gone. Copyright should be the sole means of software development protection. Simply put, you should not be able to patent a process or a look and feel, etc. You should however be able to copyright your implementation of the process or look and feel. Meaning I can write code to accomplish process A using look and feel B but someone else should not be able to decompile or steal my code, make a few changes and then sell the product as their own. Why should there be a difference between writing a book or writing software? Imagine book patenting. We'd have one mystery novel because a patent would have been awarded to "constructing a story where something in the story is mysterious". Or worse yet, patent awarded to "placement of text on sheets of paper either single or double sided that have been bound either with glue, spiral wire or any other means that hold sheets of paper in a specific order to convey a story"
