    Cross country in Gliding generally refers to flying outside glide range of the airfield, most often onn a triangular course of a set distance.

    As I recall, the RF output level of 3G is dependant on Signal strength of the cell tower.(Signal strength)

    Just a guess but perhaps sometimes your local tower is busy, so your phone uses a more distanat tower, (or you are in a weak signal area) causing the phone to increase its signal power output,and more heat to be produced

    Specualating what may cause the accident eh? It is most unusual for autorities to release publically detail of investigations before they are complete.

    MAYBE a giant monster fish jumped out of the sea and ate it- there is just as much evidence for that as for the speculation they have released so far.

    Which part of "The issue is not them announcing an investigation, it is the uniformed speculation as to the result of the investigation" was not clear?

    They should not be trying to slur a foreign manufacturer based on guess work, they should wait until all the evidence is reviewed.

    I am well aware of what the list is. It is the PBS
    approved list, as in Paharma benefit scheme.
    New drugs need approval before going on the list so they may not apply. Irrespective of that he can still prescibe the new drugs but they are not subsidised. So there is no limitation on what treatment can be given.

    Before calling people idiots, you should bear in mind the old saying asshole, "It is better to keep one mouth shut and be thought a fool than to open it and prove it", as you have.

    I am a disability pensioner in a country that has socialized medicine. Not only can my Doctor prescribe any drug on the list at any time,
    he can specify virtually any treatment. There is no
    input form anyone other than my own doctor in my treatment.

    If you must make sweeping generalizations, try for a modicum of accuracy please.

    I have an IPAQ 312, which has a US equivalent,
    the 310. This is easily hackable but is still windows CE. You finish up with a Win95 type desktop look.

    I have got it to run TomTom6 and the open source glider navigation program XCSoar,
    which is very good indeed.

    As another poster mentioned TomTom units run linux.

    There is a lot of good info on the gpspassion forum regarding hacking lots of differnet nav/gps devices.

    The gliders I fly nearly all have load factors of +5 -2.65G. I am surprised that commercial airliners are less than this range. The rationale is the scenarion where the glider hits a thermal ascending at 30KT, causing high g force to be produced.

    There were rumours at the time of the concorde crash that the flight computer would not allow some of the desperate control inputs given by the pilots in an unanticipated situation.

    I always get nervous when landing close to thunderstorm cells.

    You shouldnt, it is standard practice to maintain at least 1.5 times the stalling speed for exactly this reason. In fact a microburst is the greater danger.

    With velocities of 30KT DOWN and more the donward flow can exceed the max rate of climb of the aircraft, meaning you are going down. Unfortunately the microburst turns into a tailwind when it hits the ground, as it speads in all directions.
