"What's more, there have been several reports that Safari has the highest mobile market share in terms of actual use, rather than mere installed base."
I wouldn't trust these reports much. "Actual use" is extremely difficult to reliably meassure and.
For instance, I'm sure websites like itunes and apple receive mostly Safari traffic but that doesn't mean Safari has higher use which I find very unlikely given the massively higher number of Opera Mini & Opera Mobile enabled phones out there.
Yeah but people don't live in the desert. A little recognised but important factor of power generation is that transporting electricty hundreds of miles wastes massive proportions of it.
"Isn't that what newspaper reporters and editors are for?"
Yes, but what if an Editor has a really good story about a "party gone wild" which he knows will sell lots of papers but then at the last minute discovers his sources are false. Do you really expect him to cause his newspaper to loose sales?
Remember his duty is to the newspaper company's shareholders after all, not the customers.
But why hijack the plane yourself? Surely it must be possible to have the devices reprogram passangers' cognitive feedback loops to make them takeover the plane for you.
Then you'd have your own little mind-controlled army!
Some commercials are funny, I don't deny that. Given the right time & place, I do find them funny and enjoyable, just like music videos.
That doesn't mean though that I don't find it really annoying to have to watch them when I'm in the middle of a good movie or TV show. Nothing kills the mood and atmosphere of a movie or show like a commercial.
The only pity is that the joke was part of one of South Park's most boring episodes ever. Maybe that's partly what makes the joke so funny, it's contrast to the rest of the episode.
Nothing kills a South Park episode like when they start going on about politics.
That's the main reason why I use Opera. I often have a dozen or more tabs left open for hours on end.
Firefox does occasionally crash randomly after a couple of hours or start consuming ridiculous amounts of RAM. Opera on the other hand carries on happily no matter how many tabs I have open for however long.
"but not developed enough to have resources for mass transit, sanitation, and other health improvements."
As the GP said, it's just a matter of priorities.
The total cost to a community of mass-transit systems and such are usually far less than personal automobiles (pretty obvious when you think that nearly all 3rd-world countries have far higher percentages using public transport compared to cars). Similarly, parks and "green spaces" don't cost barely anything, but a city council willing to attract dirty industry tends to also be willing to give any piece of land away to the highest bidder.
It's all down to the priorities of the politicians. It must be noted though that it's a lot easier to get campaign funding from billionaire industrialists than from plants and trees...
DRM and closed/Open Source are not the same thing. As far as cellphone makers go, Nokia are one of the few advocates of open source software.
They never said DRM was "wonderful", they said it was "necessary". They have a platform they want to bring content to, it's plainly obvious it's the content providers who are the cause of the "necessary" bit.
"Rupert Murdoch has made his millions by becoming a shill for the State. That's a given. He promotes big, lovely government, and he was paid well by the Powers that Be."
I can't stand Murdoch one bit, but that is just complete & utter rubbish. Who are these "Powers that Be"? the Bavarian Illuminati?
In reality, he's "paid well" by all the suckers like you & me who pay for over-priced Fox, Foxtel, Sky and the plethora of other cable/satellite TV companies he part-owns.
"The advertisers and spammers move in in full force, deals are made in order to afford all the new servers needed to keep up with traffic"
In my experience, once the profiteering mentality starts, website costs have absolutely nothing to do with increased advertising and commercialisation.
Unless you're running a site like youtube or a warez site etc., server & bandwidth costs are never that significant and a simple unobtrusive banner ad or 'donate' button pays for it. It's people trying to convince investors their website is soon to make billions that leads to the ad spamming and "premium service" rubbish.
Whilst I agree, but still, if they want it to be a big global thing then they should start it at GMT 00:00, the internationally recognized, non-geographical start of the day.
Starting it at a pretty random time just so it's nice and easy for themselves to get in to the office smacks of a little tardiness it must be said.
I really don't mean to put down the developers and congratulate them on an amazing browser, but most people must think 10am PCT is a pretty random time to "start the day".
Opera doesn't have built-in spyware! Please make sure you actually know what your talking about rather than spurting out complete rubbish.
Opera 9.5 is a very good quality browser. Judging by the amazing feature set of the Firefox 3 beta's & RC's I think FF3 will just grab my top spot vote, but Opera 9.5 is definitely up there in 2nd place. It's got a couple of really useful features it does better than anyone!

"42% of the USA's territory is desert"
Yeah but people don't live in the desert. A little recognised but important factor of power generation is that transporting electricty hundreds of miles wastes massive proportions of it.
"Does that mean that this isn't a good thing?"
They must first perform the sacred ritual and give thanks to Linus Torvalds.
Care to elaborate on what "critical treatments" aren't offered? When exactly are people forced "to go abroad to get treatment."?
You shouldn't take everything you read in the Daily Mail at face value.
The NHS is not "deteriorating", that's ridiculous. Near where I live we have two major hospitals opening soon!
The different countries of the UK are diverging policies somewhat but what's wrong with that?
NHS is still free and waiting lists are now far smaller than in decades past.

Of course! Just like in the movies....

"Increasing the security checks on airline passengers is just what the terrorists are after"
Right, so these guys blow themselves up thinking "muhahaha, my death will mean extra security checks for airline passangers. So worth it."
somehow I don't quite see it myself.
Kind of ironic to say that on the day that France won the USA's independance.

No, it was correct before. I don't like any commercials. Or, in other words: I find all commercials 'bad'.
The only pity is that the joke was part of one of South Park's most boring episodes ever. Maybe that's partly what makes the joke so funny, it's contrast to the rest of the episode.

This is the main reason I download torrents. For me, nothing ruins the enjoyment a good TV show like commercials!

No, he's pointing out the inherent problems staging a "download day" publicity stunt for a piece of software who's true potential isn't yet ready.
"1pm to 1pm eastern time"
That's not really a "day", it's an arbitrary 24 hour period.
Indeed I meant UTC. I get confused between the two.
Whilst I agree, but still, if they want it to be a big global thing then they should start it at GMT 00:00, the internationally recognized, non-geographical start of the day.

And everyone knows Iraq was about to nuke all the civilized countries in the world to ...oh wait, that bit was all a lie.
Your typical home TV and Radios aren't classified as monitoring systems, they're entertainment systems.
Monitoring systems refer to devices like sensors.
