    What does that even mean?

It means that the comparison is idiotic. Wireless networks broadcast access on public frequencies into public spaces. It's nonsensical to compare a wireless AP to a house because your windows don't provide access to the possissions in your home from hundreds of feet away. If someone could drive past your house and magically acquire any item inside of it simply by seeing it, then the comparison would be valid.

Video game design is driven by male fantasy. Just like pr0n. If the majority of men like big boobies, that's what gets into video games and pr0n. Don't blame the game makers because they are catering to their target market.

Success tends to be visited upon those who best know their target market and best deliver products that meet with the wants, needs, demands and expectations of that target market.

I disagree. They're trying to hold the people who write such apps liable for the criminal behavior of others. It's like suing Ford because a drunk driver killed your kid or suing Lorcin because some psychopath shot your wife.

The example I was referring to earlier came about because one of the programs that we used didn't always properly assign file extensions. For example, PDFs would be DOC or TIFs would be BMP, things like that. They made it exceedingly difficult for us to make the changes as needed. And I might even be lowballing the fees they pay, remember, they claim losses of millions of dollars every year. If they actually believe those numbers, they'd be willing to spend a large fraction of the difference.

Problem is that they DON'T believe their own inflated numbers. I'd believe that the losses are in the millions, but nowhere near the billions that the movie, music, and software industries combined claim. It's nonsensical. They know this, but it helps them in their prosecution of offenders.

For example, if your servers get hacked the FBI will not get involved unless the damage is above a preset threshhold.

But competition is a good thing.

Exactly. I use linux for my servers, because it's the best choice for what I want them to do. I use Windows for gaming, because it's the best choice for what I want to do.

I refer to myself as platform agnostic. I don't much care what I'm running as long as it gets the job done. Putting these apps on windows can increase the base of developers who contribute. It can expose more people to Free Software. It can force Microsoft to step up and provide a better OS because they want to keep their users. In the end the users win out because they have more choices and better offerings to choose from.
