If you are more interested in the results and have the time needed, and the money, then ordering circuit boards is now reasonable to be considered. But there are many things to consider. Making your own, if you can do it reliably and quickly, can definately be good.
Particularly, if the order has a minimum quantity and you need more testing to be sure you will not have to throw them away! Like I had to once, when prices were $400 each for minimum 100. 8-(
If you get a requirement that "If the test equipment is plugged in then switch to test mode", would that really sound illegal to you?
Would it even occur to you that the government test would be done by plugging into the test connector, at all? Instead of measuring what was actually coming from the tail pipe?
The real problem was that the testers were lazy and did the test in the worst possible way. But no one wants to mention that...
The US Medicare system said "we only want to pay 80% of the cost. But instead of allowing the patient to pay some, we say the patient can't be billed. And we are the government so you have to!"
So the insurance companies said "They get to only pay 80%, so we should, too!"
So the doctors and hospitals said "We can't live like this, we have to raise our prices 20%!"
So then the private and government lawyers got together and said "You raise your prices on our clients, you better not lower them for anyone else or you get sued!"
So... the only people -really- paying higher prices are the poor or self-insured! Because the politicians stuck their fingers into something they didn't understand. 8-(
P.S. If you get caught by this, talk (quietly) to your doctor. They are often quite happy to fudge things in your favor, if you can't pay the "paper" rates. If they can get away with it...
Note to those whose job it is to detect bombs and such things: Real bombs do -not- have Big Red Numbers on them. That is just Hollywood fakery for movies. 8-)
Maybe such highly advanced civilizations are trying to save the environment? It's like saying that no one lives on earth because no large planetwide clouds of wood smoke are seen! 8-)
The problem with legislating safety, is that legislators know nothing about safety and neither do the acedemic consultants that they hire. People usually make safer decisions than governments, you just hear more about the accidents because the news media want power and money. When a law (partly) stops a rare type of accident, and causes a much more common accident, then safety is reduced.
So my suggestion is to remove the driver airbag and install a large steel spike into the steering wheel. That will help getting distracted drivers off the road rather quickly and for good.
That might actually be effective, psychologicelly. But unlikelly to be enacted, too many people are afraid of fear. But maybe a taser?
Or maybe just detect when the steering stops being moved, and then trigger the taser. Yeah! 8-}
What accidents? The following cars will also have an emergency braking system, and as a result, stop in time.
Sorry, the world is not that perfect... 8-) And just because it is computerized does not make it perfect, either. I know about it, I'm the one who computerizes things.
The question from Congress really was: "Is the sky falling, so that we can get money and power from the situation, and do you want some of the money and power? Just answer yes or no." Answer from scientists: "Well... sure!" 8-)
Under those conditions, it might be necessary to deny it even if it is true... 8-(
Only if you consider an automatic traffic gate a life form. It coaxes people to build more by letting cars into the parking garage until it is full! Otherwise... No.
So I'm just curious as to how successful her "imaginative" approach to mathematics has turned out....
Yes, it is used in higher mathmatics and engineering. The "dry" math equations are only useful once you figure out what might apply and how to "position it". For that you need something closer to what she was describing. But they use different technical language, these days, which did not exist then.
I am confident, though, that she could do quite well with math. After all, they used to do puzzles in math after lunch, just for fun.
If you try to use only the dry math, it will happily lead you off into a swamp...
No, because Fiber does not interfere with electronic systems in the area. Such as the human nervous system! The next big source of pollution that is banned will be RF-EMI, so no Wi-fi or cellular allowed. (Damned polluters!)
No power steering or power brakes? That must be hard to drive!
Many cars had Vacuum-powered break assist, which many drivers did not know about. They were often not consider to be "powered", since they were not hydraulic-assisted like the power steering. And since this thread is about computer controls, they might qualify anyway, as non-computer-controlled. Certainly they were more reliable than the computer controlled breaks in the Toyota, that was subject of a court case last year.
... That part bothers me much less than their patronizing attitude toward my wife and daughter, though, their belief that my wife and daughter can't manage without special favors and protection from snotty white people.
Those attitudes came down from the southern slave owners, who were also democrats. It is the same attitude that horse owners have to the horses, and maybe it is appropriate for horses. But not for people!
Those are considered ordinance/artillery, not small arms. Different category. Such things as cannons were usually owned by towns, lords (titled deeded land owners), and vessels (ships in many ways are akin to mini villages, this is why captains often have similar rights - ie: ability to marry).
In Europe maybe, but in the US the cannons were owned by prosperous citizens or the towns (which meant the citizens). Technically, the second ammendment covers armaments used by the military, including field artillery and battle tanks. Of course, the BATF might not agree. 8-)

Does anyone here really trust the opinion of a "pointy-haired" type who knows nothing about exploration or technology development?

Nice trolling. I love it when people call the Nazi's socialists, just because it was in the name of their political party. ...
Political systems are like a soup-can label, if you go too far in any direction they meet in the back and are the same thing!
More like World of Waste Your Time.
But isn't that the very definition of a game? 8-)
Maybe such highly advanced civilizations are trying to save the environment?

Actually, "fuzzy logic" is a known thing and is often used for selection and filtering of reports, and such.
I don't know if it was designed by a woman, but I would not be surprised... 8-)
Wouldn't you prefer pics from the aforementioned goat?
Apparently, it must have been a close enough race that my victory is in doubt.
Now, -that- is funny!!
sorry no mod points today...

Otherwise

Except, that people "correcting" the wrong things in the wrong ways is how a lot of the problems were created in the first place.
But go ahead, you are probably no worse than others... 8-)
To quote an old joke:
Well, I guess I'd just keep farming until it was all gone. 8-)
See, what you're missing is simply that it's turtles all the way down.
No it isn't! Didn't you see "The Color of Magic" ? 8-)

You should be thanking him. Now that you've Googled a common acronym, you'll recognize it next time and you're smarter for it.
Acronyms are for people using pencil and paper. There is no reason to use them on a computer. 8-)

Torpedoes, bombs and tanks are ordinance and artillery. Not included.
Not true. Try "armaments".
