I bought the latest 2 CDs from a band I love called Iced Earth. They've been around for about a decade and I was downloading their older stuff. I heard some of their new songs, and went down to the local cd store (no big chains for me. I refuse to spend $24 on a cd no matter HOW good it is) and bought 2 of their CDs.

Whether I but the CD or not, isnt the band already paid? Isn't that the problem that bands are having? The RIAA is getting all the money.

I used to own a data center, and when I sold it in 2000, I got a regular job as a senior Network and UNIX implementor. They said they hired because of my experience and what I can bring to the table. Well, I was fscking miserable there. All they wanted was a yes-man. I probably handled it incorrectly, since for 5 years I was running my own company. The execs would have meetings that I was invited to. The CEO would have these "visions" he wanted implemented. They were unreasonable. I vouched for my staff, saying that they were asking for impossible deadlines, while everyone else was saying "That's a GREAT idea, sir!" I was baffled. I'm sitting with a bunch of other professionals, who completely threw whatever logic and trainng they had out the window to suck ass. That is a foreign concept to me. I have never played that game, and was constantly lambasted for "stirring the pot" so to speak. After a couple of months of them switching the infrastructure FOUR times, they laid me off because they said I was not a team player. So I got another job who hired for the SAME reason the last one did. They wanted my experience and input. The only difference was they REALLY meant it! They didn't always take my suggestions (usually not), but they accepted my input as valid. I got paid less, but was respected more. I LOVED that job. I was happy, and I was willing to go the extra mile because I was noticed and appreciated. I had a job offer that paid me more money, but I didn't take it, because I actually loved where I was. They then had massive layoffs (400 people) after 9/11 and the merger with a new company. That's when things started to suck. A Merger only benefits the board and the shareholders. The employees ALWAYS get screwed. I then had to become a YES man, and if I didn't "play nice", I was next in line. I was next in line anyway since I was relatively new. It all depends on the people in charge. If employers VALUE their employees, appreciate them for MAKING them millions, the stupid bullshit games won't happen. Unfortunately, it's a rare occurence
