What exactly is there not to understand about the Linux distributions on netbooks? I have an Aspire One and I've played around with a eeePC...things are just so easy to do! I think pretty much anything the average non-techy would do on a netbook is sooo easy on the the eeePC and Aspire One Linux distributions. So easy in fact, that I switched to #!Linux to have a bit more fun with it. Ok, they don't play your top of the range Computer games, but thats out of the scope of what a netbook should manage.
I really do believe that this is not the end of Linux on netbooks, because the pricing issue will persist. I'd rather pay 100â less and learn my way into a new OS to be honest.
...this is a great offer. Thats why I've been buying ATI cards, because you get similar quality to Nvidia, but the price is significantly less. But until ATI makes better Linux drivers, my HD3870 is the last ATI card I buy =)
This thread actually made me walk over to my cd cupboard. I am now holding a 6-year-old SuSE Linux Professional 8.2 box in my hands. A friend, an IT Professional gave it to me, cos he no longer needed it. At that time I used it mainly to do my homework on, with Windows for gaming. So yeah, the first thing I did on Linux was my homework ^^
Well, the amazing thing about open source software is...you can change it all to suit your needs.
Compiz does a pretty nice job of lighting and shadow, and you can always download new GTK themes if you aren't happy with the color choices. So, yeah, compared to the standard windows XP look, where you can only change between 3 different themes and the classic windows look, Gnome does a pretty nice job ^^
wouldn't they take a picknick near Rosneath Road with a pair of binoculars?
I mean...if I look at googlemaps and see a blurred out area, it kinda sparks my interest far more than if I see a line that might resemble a submarine.
This is...impressive, but unfortunately, the laser-guided bullet has also been invented. The spotter points a laser beam at the target while all the sniper has to do is fire a bullet. The bullet then changed its direction towards the laser point. Try dodging that =)
They probaby know Ubuntu is very, very dangeorous to them, as soon as more people find out it exists, how safe it is, how much it (usually) doesn't screw up your computer, how much more intuitive it is, how much more eyecandy it has, how everything the average computer user will ever need is already installed, Windows is in trouble. Also the fact that its cheaper by a factor that is infinitely high doesn't exactly make things better.
heart Ubuntu! =D
Pretty much all it needs to beat Windows is...more games that match the visual quality, amount, size and complexity of those being developed for Windows. *hides*
Security problems?!
I'd...think switching from...uh...for example...windows to linux is more of a security update.
Also, bugs and security holes in oss are found faster and are easier to repair than with their closed source counterparts.

That keypad looks like it came straight out of the Back to the Future DeLorean =)

No, that was intentional. Only having 2 "S" could invoke Godwin's law.
make me happy I choose AMD/ATI for all my computers...
I'm running Arch Linux smoothly with no problems on my tiny tiny Acer Aspire One 110L =D
Universal Remote 20$ upwards
Smartphone at least 200$ upwards
I don't quite think thats a good replacement.

Not mutually exclusive in logical terms =)
Thats...the first thing I saw when I went to the "app store"...why? What did they do to the strict Linux user rights? oO"
When did we start using the term "app store" for them?
GOOD! We do not need nuclear weapons! They are probably the saddest thing mankind has ever invented.

...as far as I remember. Just don't upload stuff you want to keep. Use deviantart and other sites for that =)
