I agree with this. What does it matter what a Microsoft ad says? At least they didn't lie through their teeth and try to tell us Vista is the Best Windows ever, or some other crap like that.
Do you actually understand this stuff? I just read this ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elementary_particle ) and understood exactly 0% of it. I can't freakin WAIT til they fire up the big nasty at CERN and smash stuff together! I'm not gonna understand ANYTHING!
Google's new browser is apparently doing the same thing.
Personally it doesn't matter to me if my browser crashes, because Firefox restores itself. Not that Firefox crashes much anyways.
By the time we're in the 'multi-core future', IE8 will be ancient history. Why are Microsoft future-proofing their browser and not their OS's?
What is the INTRANETS? Does not compute.
In other news, when I heard this, my internal surprise meter registered only the tiniest of blips. This blip coincides not with the news itself, but with the fact that anyone else is surprised by this.
Someone remind me why we care about IE8 agian? Are they banning Firefox and Opera when IE8 releases? Is IE8 going to be cross-platform? I thought people stopped using IE once they invented Netscape...
You may seem happy with it now, but when the 250GB goes down to 150gb, then 100, then 50, then 25, you won't be so happy. This is obviously just a step in that direction for Comcast.
In Australia, you pay more for more download quota. I can only download 25GB a month, and I pay $60 for that. 250GB plans don't exist here.
I've been playing Warhammer online Age of Reckoning, and the persistance in that is pretty good, the mechanics behind it work well.
This is an example. In a zone, there is an area which is an RvR battlefield. In that battlefield are a number of warcamps, smaller objectives with few gaurds, and one major objective, a Keep. You own the keep if you go in with a stack of people, ransack the gaurds, beat down any enemy players trying to PvP you, break down the Keep door, and kill the Master of the Keep. Once you've done this, your own Keep Lord appears, and you have the opportunity to defend him. There's a 15 minute timer on flipping Keeps too, but other then that, you will own a Keep until it is taken back.
The status of all the Keeps in the game world affect your Major Capital cities status, and eventually, you can sack Capitals as well. I havn't seen that yet, but I can imagine it would be cool.
Persistence isnt a technical issue, so much as a gameplay one for me. Is it going to make the game more fun in-and-of itself? I don't think so. You need more then just one mechanic working for you in order to create a fun MMO.
If you LET people dope themselves to death, they will, a la Jackie Joyner-Kersee.
Besides, we already have an Olympics where the athletes are allowed to dope themselves silly, it's called World's Strongest Man.
The difference between good companies and poor companies is their ability to avoid "worst-case scenarios". This is all down to intelligent management of their technologies.
I also am not surprised. Thousands of people have been killed in good old fashion bombings and shootings, why wouldn't they resort to other types of warfare and propaganda. I'm just surprised they're not doing more. I'm sure if Russia were inclined to, they could do more serious damage to Georgian communications infrastructure. In war, many of peoples rights are disrupted, including freedom of information.
It's just as well it's not cell based, noone would want one. The functionality of the architecture just isn't there.
Maybe this will help the nice lads working on the Linux distros for PS3.
Good luck!
It's much like fighting a conventional enemy versus fighting guerrilla militias. That being said, organization breeds efficiency, and facilitates larger operations.
I'm not sure, but I've heard that a lack of hardware video acceleration is one of the factors which currently limits the capabilities of the PS3 as a linux machine (along with memory support and lack of emulators for the cpu architecture). This article gives me a bit of hope that we might see advances in the capabilities of the PS3 under Linux.

I got one of the spam emails from eBay saying that you had to use PayPal and if you didn't your listing would be removed. I sent them a reply telling them where to go.
I'm currently looking for an alternative to eBay in Australia. Any ideas?
Wow. I didn't know that it was possible to make this technology sound so stupid. I am an Aeronautical Engineer, but really, anyone could do a better job reporting on this.

100% correct. There's a word for it, too. Greed.
Lol, I knew Ubi were P2P kiddies.

Unfortunately there are lots of wacky people happy to screw things up for the rest of us.
Very good point. I feel bad for some public servants, but not so much for others.

Try lots of different ones, and see which works best for you.
