The only reason a manufacturer will pay a driver developer to writer Linux drivers is if it is financially viable.

How do they know how many people want to (or already do through an unofficial driver) use their product in Linux?

The first thing I did when I got my Highpoint rocket raid controller was to e-mail them and thank them for supporting FreeBSD.

Unfortunately this was a config problem. The number of processes allowed per user was the same as the number of processes for the machine (or there was no limit)

I had to phone people up to get them to logout to free up processes so I could kill the chain.

Would ancient computer components still be recognisable after 10,000 years? There have been one or two battery type devices found from ancient Egypt, these were probably used for gold plating, but it just shows that electricity was being used 1000s of years ago, but then "forgotten" about.

What if there was a "revolution" where people thought that civilization/technology/captialism/money/whatever was ruining the race (root of all evil etc) and it was all/half destroyed by some arch villain/bin laden/country? People were saying immediately after 9/11 that this could be the end of civilization, slightly extreme I know, but this upset was cause very few people.

20 people connected to a Wireless LAN.
Each person commits 10-20% of their 56k dial-up connection for a server on the network to use.

A program (running on the server) requests portions of "large files" by either:

    1) Connecting direct and requesting via ftp/http. ie. 20 requests for 5% using file resuming and then stopping when the amount has been pulled down.

    2) Connecting to another server on the web which proxies the data and chops it up for streaming.
