why in the hell would you pay a monthly subscription for access to music
If Spotify dropped the ad-supported model, I'd stump up for the monthly subscription in an instant. It's so convenient, I even fire up Spotify rather than playing a CD that I already own. I used to file share to find music that I'd been recommended. Nowadays, if they're not on Spotify, I just can't be bothered going through the hassle of LimeWire/BitTorrent.
Someone in the recording industry once said "You can't compete with free". Well, Spotify proved him wrong; you can compete by making it free and more convenient.
Disclaimer: i haven't used spotify so if some of my points are totally wrong, please tell me.
You're not wrong, but until you actually use Spotify, it's hard to appreciate just how great the user experience is.
I can't get treatment and I just get bounced between one GP and another who tells me to wait and it will fix itself.
It's true though - one day your voice will break and your balls will drop. The acne takes a bit longer to disappear but I believe you can get Clearasil over-the-counter in the Netherlands.
We use it to watch web-based videos on the living room telly. That means YouTube, BBC iPlayer, etc. You can also play Flash games on the Wii; YetiSports Albatross Overload is a favourite with us. It can also be useful for the eternal question of "Oh, what's that actor's name, and what else was he in ?"
Alan Turing's biography is a fascinating read - ISBN 0099116413
It is...but it could have done with a bit of trimming, in my view. It was meticulously researched but I get the feeling that Andrew Hodges wanted to include every single fact known about Turing's life, interesting or not. There may also be a bit of a bias towards representing homosexuality as Turing's defining feature - he was remarkable in so many other ways. For example, he was an outspoken atheist, a gifted athlete, and a bit of an eccentric polymath.
OTOH, the book doesn't shy away from trying to present his thesis in depth. Hell, it has a permanent place on my bookshelf.
Likewise, the Lockerbie bomber wasn't released because it's the right thing to do, but because Gaddafi all but publicly promised natural gas and oil at favourable prices, in return.
Did he promise them to the Scottish National Party ?
Thankfully, they are not representative of the open source movement.
Indeed. They're representatives of the Free Software movement; the clue's in the title.
However, while we know this, and in spite of all Stallman's protests over nomenclature, there are still many, many geeks who don't know about (or even care about) the distinction. What chance they have with Windows users (even geeky Windows users) should be minimal to the point of insignificance.
I can't remember the man's name right now, but one American pilot was finally freed some years back, and living in Chicago. I read an interview that he did with someone, but can't even remember who interviewed him.
Weren't both Space War and Pong multiplayer-only?
Heh. Excellent point. I'd mod you up if I had any points.
Was Turing really castrated?
Chemically castrated by being injected with female hormones. Breast growth was a side-effect.

How is this different from Pandora?
Spotify is an on-demand streaming dukebox with a HUGE catalogue of tracks. No limit to the number of listens and an uncanny, almost instant replay.

Or you could upload it to 4chan and let the /b/tards loose on it.
