    You're part of the problem we face today. Computers are order of magnitude faster than 20 years ago and yet software still never runs any faster. Web pages still render as quick today as they did in 1997. Software still has loading screens and even with an SSD we have to wait for the operating system to boot up and settle down.

    POSIX compliance aside, there is no reason why having a username starting with a number should cause issues with ANY operating system.

    Sadly nobody can write clean code anymore. I come across plenty of stuff that gives tons of errors when compiled on *BSD or even AIX (with GNU tools in both cases) that compiles without issue in Linux. I'm not a comp.sci major so I have no clues as to why it never works.

    Intel didn't bribe anyone. AMD spent all their capital buying ATI. Like the next day Intel released the Core lineup and blew AMD out of the water for a decade.

    as I've said before nobody ever reads all these papers. They are beyond dry and near worthless unless you are writing a thesis and need it as a source.

    Someone writes SolidWorks builds for Linux I'll switch right over. Mac is nearly as bad in this regard. Just recently Autodesk came out with AutoCAD for OSX.
