I never understood that argument. On Windows you have to find the file, download it, and then install it. On Linux you just type the name of the program and it automatically downloads and installs it.
Not to mention that Futurama was always preempted due to Football. How does FOX expect a show to get good ratings when it's never on? Is there not something wrong when the general public understands FOX's marketing better than they do themselves?

As in POP3, IMAP, etc.? Why would they want to use pop3 and IMAP to spam???
I always thought Microsoft would be the first company to start their own currency. But times are changing and I think you're right, it will probably be Google.
The Scuba-Doo isn't made by Bombardier. Though a Rotax powered underwater craft would be pretty sweet. Not counting the people who sink their ski-doos of course.
Why can't they just make IE apply the DX filter on all image/pngs? I don't know what the code base looks like, but that should be no more than a few minutes coding if it's not that messy.
I setup my printer with CUPS on Linux, using KDE's printer setup dialogs. It was as easy as setting up a printer on Windows. How easy do you want it to be?
Maybe I'm stuck in current thinking, but humans aren't very good at visually communicating what they want so why would we want to program that way? If they wanted to make programming accessable to everyone they should allow natural languages to control the computer.
I can certainly see shell script like programs being created graphically where you just have to tie an event chain together. And maybe that's all Bill was talking about. But beyond that it doesn't see efficient.
Been doing it for over a year now and it has been great. I work on various programming / sys admin type jobs which I can do over the internet. I have DSL access so that helps, if I was stuck on dial up I don't know if it would be as viable.
Although I think it would be a bad decision for them as it would allow for rise in alternative operating systems which could come back to hurt them in the US and other countries.
I use it all the time to convert metric to standard units and vice versa. I mean if america would just get their act together it would be a non issue. But until then, it's Google to the rescue.
I don't need yet another thing for the government to do for me. If you aren't able to judge your ability to drink, buy a breatalizer.
But they are already doing it??? They just aren't where I think they should be.
You can also buy "go/no-go" strips for less than a dollar.
You learn something new every day, why aren't these more well known? I knew you could buy a breathalizer, but no one is going to spend $100 on one.
Sorry, but I hate hearing what the government should "do for us". Arrrrrggggghhhhh!!!!
What good is a government that doesn't serve the people? Besides, they are pretty much doing everything I suggested already, they just need to make some minor changes to make it effective.
I live out of town, but the nearest city to me, not many drinking establishments have parking lots. So it means parking on the street, or in a nearby pay lot.
As far as I can tell, the government (Ontario) almost encourages drinking and driving. They make no effort to allow people to find out their BAC before getting in the car. Instead of the cops sitting a mile down the road from the bar, how about they stand right outside the bar and check people on the way out. Better yet, make breathalizers even more accessable than that. Every bar should have one, or even personal ones. I think a lot of people end up driving because they think they are okay, but have no way of knowing for sure. Granted they shouldn't drive at all, but that will never happen.
The other problem is that the affermentioned city, and most other places I've been to, enforce that all cars must be off the streets at 3AM. What better way than to promote drinking and driving? The driver maybe doesn't want to move their car after they had one too many. But they have no choice, or pay the parking fine.
If government really wanted to stop drinking and driving they could almost eliminate it by making a few small changes. But I think they'd rather have the money come in, and risk a few deaths.
I know of at least a few companies that live and die by their access databases. The one company has at least 40 employees using one database! And I don't mean Access as just a front end.
Access has it's place. I'm not sure relying on Access for day to day business is it's place. But it seems to work for those companies.
Well, if you want to see things like Photoshop running natively on Linux, Adobe will have to use a toolkit that can do multiple document interfaces, and that rules out GTK.
Neither the UNIX or MacOS versions of Photoshop use MDI. Why would a Linux version need it?
like the complete inability to do MDI-style interfaces
Why would you ever consider that a bad thing? MDI-style interfaces are the worst thing ever.
I don't really like GNOME either though. KDE provides a great framework and is structured well. KDE may have a few usabilty problems vs. GNOME at this point for the inexperienced user. But KDE should win out on technical merit, the rest can follow later.
The problem is the radio. They play the same songs so often that there is no need to buy the CD.
I remember years ago, you'd be hard pressed to catch even the hits you want to hear. Now turn on the radio and there it is, right for your listening pleasure. So why would I bother buying the CD? Why even bother downloading it?
If the patches aren't critical, what difference does it make when it's released? It's not like you're going to miss it if it's released on the 15th and you don't check until the end of the month.
you're still using the keyboard to input commands
Not true. There are plenty of ncurses-based programs that accept mouse input.
I never understood that argument. On Windows you have to find the file, download it, and then install it. On Linux you just type the name of the program and it automatically downloads and installs it.
How is the Windows way easier?
I pay for them every time I buy blank media. The courts agree.
And I prefer something not quite so random myself.

Is there a chance the reactor can bend?
Been doing it for over a year now and it has been great. I work on various programming / sys admin type jobs which I can do over the internet. I have DSL access so that helps, if I was stuck on dial up I don't know if it would be as viable.
Why should Microsoft care?
Although I think it would be a bad decision for them as it would allow for rise in alternative operating systems which could come back to hurt them in the US and other countries.
That doesn't mean they aren't using UNIX on the backend, where the real work gets done.
I use it all the time to convert metric to standard units and vice versa. I mean if america would just get their act together it would be a non issue. But until then, it's Google to the rescue.

No contest. Walking through fields on the hotest summer days picking up rocks. How can anything be worse?

Impossible. They play it so often that by the time they quit playing it, you never want to hear it again.

Unless the power's out of course
That's an interesting point. My DSL continues to operate even through a power outtage. BPL would not.
