If people are talking about a show, and saying it's really good, I ussally just rent the first season on DVD, if it's good, me and my girlfriend rent the next, and so on. We've watched all 4 seasons of the Sopranos, as well as the first two seasons of 24, Simpson I don't worry about, becuase i buy those box sets anyway. We also tune in for the occasional Discovery Channel feature, or some good college football, other than that TV is shite, but hopefully I didn't have to tell you that.
It always amazes me how middle managers and marketing suits are lumped in and considered "tech" jobs, how much code are they writing, or what new research are they doing. These jobs may have been at tech companies but I would wager most of these jobs were positions that shouldn't have been to begin with.
When I was at WWDC, I had the chance to talk to the team of engineers at Apple that designed and programmed the cooling system for the G5. They said that if the openfirmware detects anything but an Apple operating system, all fans crank to 100% to avoid meltdown, as you don't want to rely on a foriegn OS to regulate the 9 fans, which is a bit of a juggling act as it is!
Stereotype is a word that seems thrown around an awful lot these days, and it's often used in a negative context. But aren't stereotypes a logical and efficient way of group things (in this case people)?
I'm not saying that every stereotype is right all the time, and some are downright wrong, and have been perpetuated, not out of a means of mentally sorting and grouping, but out of hate or fear.
Anyway, I'm gonna go hang out in the backyard of my white Protestant family's backyard and talk about golf while barbecuing.
In case people are unfamiliar with this "subculture" they are referring to the sport/hobby of Airsoft, which are exact replicas of real firearms, accurate to every detail, including weight. These guns shoot plastic BB's, and are either spring loaded, or, on the more expensive models, gas-powered.
Aside from just collecting this guns, there are people that actually play with them ala paintball guns, with teams and everything (think real-life Counterstrike).
When I was a kid, me and brothers would have killed for a good, solid plastic BB gun, so in my quest to relive my childhood days, I bought a few cheap Airsoft Glocks (33 and 17) just for plinking around.

Also, these are GREAT for shooting girlfriends/cats!
"Surely Slashdot can think up better ways to make use of a multimillion dollar room of fully immersive 3D interaction, besides FPS games?"
Better, yeah probably, but cooler, I dunno. Also, if you were a nerd in charge of coming up with idea for applying this technology, and it was already paid for, why on earth would you give up the best gaming rig on the planet. I'm sure there are a lot of great ideas, but everyone is afraid of losing their UT03K "test lab".
Not only did I mod this up, but I feel inclined to add that I spent many hours with my dad back in the day, the noise that Caspian makes when he runs into a wall is priceless, and the "nya nyas" as we called them in my house we forever annoy me whenever I hear it, or something that sounds like it.
By the way, I loved the beginning of that game, where if you stayed on the menu screen long enough, the lightning would strike the castle.
Also, check out the Great Hall on Christmas Day, there's a tree in the corner, funny little easter egg.
I was about 13 years old, and bought Zelda: 4 Seasons (or something like that) for my Game Boy, I beat it in like 2 days and wondered why I had spent all that money.
So, I got my mom to take me back to K-Mart, presented my receipt and the game, in it's packaging, but obviously opened. They asked my reason for returning it and I simply told them I was unsatisfied with my purchase, they gave me my money back and that was that. I remember feeling quite good about myself on the ride home.
OSX 10.3, coded-named Panther is at B49 right now, and as of B44 has labels ala the beastly operating system that was OS9.
Also, new Powerbooks are nowhere to be seen, which is leading many, myself included, to believe that we will not seen them until the Paris expo, which is sometime in mid-Sept.
I think movies about historical wars and conflicts are appropriate; Blackhawk Down was one of the most horrifying films i have ever seen. I enjoyed it only in the sense that the filmmaking was really good and the movie exposed (as much as a movie can anyway) the moral dilemnas that urban warfare, and war in general bring about. Contrast this with a game, which is explictly supposed to be fun and enjoyable, and I think one could say that playing as an American soldier firing on young armed Vietcong children, is not, or at least SHOULD not be fun. Again, it's the fact that this actually happened that makes it offensive to me; make a game about evil psycho kids from the cornfields and i'll blast em with a laser gun, but the pain and horror this game would try to emulate is REAL.
anyway, just to be clear i don't think this should be legally prohibited or anything, i just think it's in bad taste.
I thought the article was going to be about the curse of the game itself, as in: I have 23 page paper due tommorow at 1pm, but for some reason my body is physically unable to stop playing Madden and start writing it.
If anyone wants to write THAT article, talk to me.

Thanks for the tips!

Where I'm from, you can go to jail for that stuff.
I bet people would love it.

My friends and I still play Virtua Tennis all the time, and never get sick of commenting on how bad the teeth look on the players.

Couldn't have said it better myself!
If you cave into Canada, who WON'T you cave into?

This explains my dismal 0 - 41,000 WarCraft record!
I knew I wasn't THAT bad.

How things have changed...
Excuse me, could you be slightly more vague?
Thank you.
My dad saw it and asked when the movie was coming out...

Buy a cheap iMac DV for like $300, and run Quicktime Broadcaster (it's free, as in beer).
Good luck.

Leave the Palm at home and play with your kids.
Mind you the through-put is about 1b/s.
Good luck Kimosabi!
