    That seems like the Crux of Mr. Ballmer's argument. And frankly, thats so obvious, its MBA 101.

    Google is taking strides; witness Gmail and Google Maps; when my DAD (the guy who self infected his PC with Spyware) is raving about how cool Google Maps is... you know that Google the company is heading in the right direction.

    But Microsoft can fight wars on multiple fronts. Regardless of the wisdon of that, can Google say the same?

    Additionally, this could me the Microsoft version of FUD; "Sure, google is tops now. But what about 5, 10 years? Investors, put your money in Microsoft, a proven leader!"

    Perhaps that last point is a little too Sun-Tzu, but you have to question his motives.

    They'll user starter, find out it sucks, use Home and/or Pro, find out it sucks, get bigger and better machines and find out that after all these years IT STILL SUCKS.

    Then mumble something about "need Word and Outlook for work..." as they go to buy another copy.

    Laziness and status aside;

    The real answer is for the Elderly and the disabled. IF you check out That Home Site you'll find a lot of interest in residential elevators. If it isn't feasible to buy a single level house, an elevator allows you full access to your entire abode.

    But, redhat now looks like its run by classy pros (as opposed to TigerDirect which look like sue-happy theives) in the tech-news circle, and it gets its name out for FREE.

    This is a grab for stupid tech media outlets to run this story and act as free advertising for TigerDirect.

    I'm sure the cost to serve papers and have the judge dismiss is less than the cost of a real PR campaign.

    Personally, I think most of the hate directed at the previous two, Jar-Jar comments aside, was a media invention.

    Well, chalk up another piece of anecdotal evidence; I thought those movies blew. They were weak; they were derivative; I didn't care about any of the characters; the acting was stilted and unbelievable.

    Have you seen the QT movie on apple's website? It looks like a dream!

    I've cobbled together some applscript in the past starting from zero, and in under an hour I got a non-trivial script working.

    Automater looks like it would take about a minute.

    I'll let you know how it goes when I get my mac mini (I was waiting for Tiger), but this looks like perl, except its easy.
