I used to work as an in-school tech at a Junior High School, and to this day I remember being in the lunch room one day and hearing one of the teachers proudly comment on how they always waited a minute or two after microwaving food, so that the microwaves could "dissipate". This lead to a discussion of the 3 or 4 teachers around about what things worried them- with the emissions from the smokestacks of the local refineries being the winner after some discussion.
Then one of them pipes up, no word of a lie, and says, "I hate when those smokestacks are billowing smoke out, but I hate it more when they're not- who knows* what they're emitting when you can't see it!"
Sooo.... the obviousness of the Metric system are lost on you. Ok. I do have to ask, in what possible way does "Increment size 180 degrees between freezing and boiling. Now that makes sense." can possibly make sense? Why 180? Why not 415? 7152323? 5?
br.
To this day I don't understand why the US, Libera and Burma insist on being the only Imperial holdouts... other than the obvious "Change is bad, durr!" mentality.
To the OP:
So what can be done about this? Do we have to accept the old adage that "90% of bad cops give the rest of 'em a bad name" (bad cops being truly bad cops and those who cover up for them)? Is there really no recourse?
"might be a whole generation before the old stubborn ones die out."
That's what they said in the '60s, it's what they said in the 70's, I remember hearing it personally in the 80's and the 90's.... Funny how the radicals get conservative once they get old...
When prohibition on alcohol ended, the only sobriety tests were roadside coordination tests and smelling someone's breath. The legalization of alcohol was still* a net positive on society. The mere fact that we haven't created a reliable marijuana impairment detector has no bearing on the fact that the war on MJ is incredibly damaging to society in almost every way.
That is a good point, but when your milk has lead in it, you at least have a legal recourse in the ability to sue. On the black market, your choices are limited to suck it up and get violent. This helps how?
Best idea I've ever seen for this is from the Inventions of Daedelous, where he suggested a rapidly switching magnetic field to stimulate the emission of microwaves, very much like a MRI but tuned to emit a different frequency. Basically, inducing the food to emit* microwaves instead of absorbing them. Would require a dump to get rid of the microwaves to prevent re-absorbtion, but hey, details can always be worked out later...
Well, the article states that the trains will never get more than 6-8 cars long, not a mile long. That's less than the huge road trains they operate in Australia (trucks with many, many trailers).
Agreed- I would have gladly accepted a FFXI-2 reskinning of FFXI using the XIV engine, which is what I understand the original intent was. However, we got a game that practically punishes you for playing or attempting to progress.
The couple diehards I know who are still playing XIV play for about 3-4 hours a week. Compare that to your average XI session where if you weren't on for 3-4 hours a session* you were taking it easy. Or WoW, where people will spend their entire free time logged in and playing.
In my opinion, the guildleve system killed the game- I often wonder why the game even has NPCs, since 99% of them don't interact with the players in any way, except maybe for some colour. Give me a quests like any other damn MMO, not this "sorta like the WoW Dungeon Finder, but really not nearly as good due to the 48h cooldown" leve system that is the only thing to do other than grinding.
Oh, and an Auction House please. Nothing in this game demonstrates the developer's lack of understanding of their playerbase than the lack of an AH, in my opinion.
I found the same thing with Skype; not killing the app caused my iPhone to drain it's battery at about 3x the normal rate- it was the first time I had ever run it dry. I assume it was checking for chat and status updates, as I wasn't in a call or anything...
Excuse me, but if we are allowed to shoot a politician everytime he lies and/or reverses his stand on any issue, we might as well wipe out every federal and state and local post there is.
Sounds like fun- I've considered that trip (east Canada through the Rockies via Via). The thing that has always bugged me about it is that Via Rail insists that to have a 'reasonable' departure time from Toronto, the schedule runs the train through the Rockies (just about the most scenic possible environment to ride a train through) AT NIGHT.
Could they just stop for an extra 30 mins at a variety of stops across Canada? Sure. Do they? Nope.
I've worked in aviation, and several of my family work in health care- and I've always been shocked that the rule of thumb seems to be "the more critical your job is, the longer we can work you."
The rule where I was working that they could not work you more than 16h a day, 35 days straight while flying. That's all; and then they had to, by law, give you a week off. Oh, and the getting in and out of camp was on your* time, not the company's, so that week was reduced by 24-48h each way*. So more like 3 days off, then back to it...
Wow, I've never* seen a Union work the way you say- every single instance is a "closed shop", where any non-union worker will result in every Union Man walking out...
You and I are in complete disagreement; I find the self checkouts are far, far slower (apart from the relative line waits). The irritating pause between each item is 2-3x longer than the cashier's, you keep getting lectured on "ITEM IN BIN" if you didn't move something the extra inch, and then they keep trying to give me cash back or other things which I just don't care about.
I remember once in Home Depot, I was buying an extension cord, and since they had decided that there should be NO human cashiers at that time, and I spent a few minutes looking for the damn barcode. I finally found a service rep, asked how I was supposed to scan the thing, so he proceeds to rip the packaging open to show me the barcode INSIDE the packaging... how the hell was I supposed to know it was there?
God how I loathe those things. If they just used them as additional* lanes, I wouldn't mind, but in every case, there's suddenly significantly fewer human cashiers.
"Juggers coming! Juggers coming!"
...now all we need is a dog skull, and we're all set.

/facepalm

Please! "Sea Kittens", not fish.

I am in awe sir, that is the best thing I've read in weeks.
Not only that, but if you read back he's actively defending his wrongness... /shakes head in mild disbelief.

Yeah, there's nothing funny about his comment.

I, for one, am shocked, shocked! that Facebook of all companies has introduced something so invasive!
Don't blame me, I voted for Kodos.

Yeah I thought the product pictures on their site were pretty bizarre myself.
For that precise frequency of microwaves, yes. Change the frequency, not by much, and there's no effect.
...maybe they're different people? :-/

It would be more fair to say Mosaic was "also ported" to the Amiga- your post read to me as "Mosaic was first developed for the Amiga".
