Correct. Amazon did not improperly access the Kindle. It sucks, but with digital technology, it is possible to recover stolen property, which is what Amazon did and should have done.
Before the authorized American edition of the Lord of the Rings was published, a company called ACE publishing released an unauthorized printing in the US. There was no way to take back the books once they had been sold but rest assured the publishers would've if they could've. It's safe to say Tolkien would have been on board with that since he wrote gobs of personal letters to Americans who wrote him letters about his books. He wanted them to realize that he wasn't receiving a dime for the copy of the books they bought in America since there was no authorized American edition. When doubleday finally came out with one, most of those readers gladly purchased an additional copy of the authorized book. ACE gave a nominal sum to the publishers/Tolkien, but far short of what they had actually earned. The reader was just out twice.
It's not the exact same situation and I understand that in Tolkien's case, the author was still living. But I think the two instances are more similar than different.
If Microsoft has obtained a complete technical reading of this Linux kernel, it is possible, however unlikely, they might find a weakness and exploit it...

"The Kindle presents news as a list, leaving a reader to guess which pieces are most important to read."
Leaving the read to guess or leaving the reader to decide which article is more important? Part of the reason newspapers are in trouble is because they tell they reader what they think is important.
Anyway, it's still a list of articles by section. Just put the "important" ones at the top, so us morons will know what's important.
...the US is so far behind the rest of the tech world when it comes to wireless technology, they cannot offer a tethering service because they don't have the infrastructure to do it. It has affected all carriers. If it was only poor planning on the part of one company, that would be understandable. Even if it was poor planning on the part of many companies, one at least could offer this great feature (at a realisitc price) and make a killing. But as it stands...no one can do it at anything close to a price that middle class Americans will pay.

There will be VS2010 versions.
It's not the high-end dev environment, but it does quite a bit.
If I wasn't posting this I'd mod you funny. Haha
! MS is dumb. But seriously, one thing that is oft overlooked is that you don't need an app store for window's mobile applications. You write it and load it yourself or make a.cab file and have anyone download it. Setup a way to charge money for it if you want to. MS has no say in what you put on your mobile phone. If you can write it, you can load it.
I understand the vetting process that an app store gives the user, and that's no small thing. But where's the individual spirit of, "dang it! I wrote the app and I don't want to have to register it with some uber-corp so I can share it with other people and make money off it"?
Perhaps I am jumping to conclusions, Mr. Composer777. If so I apologize in advance, if not...
Lots of developers wish they could be left alone so they could do their work. But then often times those same developers complain that they don't have any input in the design process before hand or during development. You cannot have it both ways. If you want to be left alone, then do exactly what is given you. If you want to have a voice in the direction of the project, then be prepared for boring design meetings and redundant follow up meetings in order to insure that what you are developing is what is being asked for. Yes, people will come by your cube unannounced, yes, you will get emails asking for features that no on has mentioned. That's your chance to get involved with the process. You have to be able to deal with the input and decisions of others just as they must be able to work with yours. What's that? The other "marketing morons" are idiots who have stupid ideas? Guess what...you(we) have dumb ones too. Work it out or just sit quietly, do what you are told and keep your mouth shut.
I have to give myself this speech often.
Remember AT&T's M-Life campaign of the late 90s? So many bill boards with "What is M-Life? Is it fattening?"
Can you explain this using a chinese finger-cuffs analogy?

If I had mod points I'd throw 'em your way.
As someone who has been abducted by aliens, I can confirm that it is indeed a probing device, but not the worst kind they have.
Do you think there would be a mobile phone industry without capitalism?
You have me there...

The only windows box in my house is Win 3.1. My day to day machine is a Beowulf cluster of Swedish bikini models. So there.
Yes...and their new name is: IBM, Microsoft and Oracle.
The Toshiba VM-4050 had a forward facing camera. There were two screens, a small one on the outside and a larger one when you flipped it open. Res wasn't great though. http://reviews.cnet.com/cell-phones/toshiba-vm-4050-sprint/4505-6454_7-30734023.html

Do you shudder? Or do you feel yourself swell with pride. Be honest.
The article is talking about gmail. Google search hasn't been in beta for quite awhile.

...let's see how well you use it. And so began the great wand battle of '09 between MS and Nintendo.

In all this talk of who can do what under which license...has anyone stopped to think of the children? You have? Oh...okay. Carry on.
