You have a point there. As a public database, said evil conspiring music exec could just click their way through the database and stash the info for themselves.
You could force people to register and view a EULA, but even still, you wouldn't be able to tell if a company stole your database for there own use.
I don't really care personally. =o
If it helps them produce better music, so be it. If it doesn't.. well. I don't buy it.
Have you asked him? I'm sure he'd tell you. Go post in his forums.
I would imagine he has no policy. It's a student project for a class he takes at university.
As with anything.. If you're worried, don't do it. But seeing as how no personal data is collected except songs you listen to: Who really gives a shit? He offers a service, which I think is damned cool. If he makes a couple bucks off knowing that I like to listen to Metallica after my Melodic Trance, I'm happy for him.
Kazaa has an estimated 60 million users. There are MANY more P2P services abound.
The US alone has 270 Million or so citizens. Don't you think when a certain ratio of the population is violating the law, they might start to think about changing the law?
What I'm saying is.. If the laws are for the people, and what has to be closely reaching a majority of the people are breaking said law, shouldn't it be changed to a legal activity?
"big guns such as Klez have had almost no effect on home users"
Bull!
I work at a PC shop, and at least lately, not a day goes by that I'm not cleaning Klez off a customer's PC. About half the time there's little damage.. But on a 98 box, well--I'm sure you all know how fragile they are.
If you are using a Linksys, like the author of the question is, I believe Linksys's MAC filter only blocks internet, but not local network access.
As a sequel to the original, I really think the acting was quiet extraordinary. Wonderful makeup, lighting, and sound effects.
If you play music for your employees, that I believe counts as a public performance--therefor requiring you to buy an ASCAP license. (Or equivelant)

There is a Winamp2 plugin called RoboDJ, which is a little like what you've described. It wasn't to my liking, but you may be interested.

If their breaking the law.. Arrest them.
If you disagree with the law, fight to change it.

I deal with them daily, and haven't run into anything even resembling what you've stated.
Ok, if they are the devil.. Who would be a company to trust then?
Go to bed, kid.
Sorry, I agree with the writer of the article. I swear not a day goes by I don't curse that damned back button.
If you click a link, then go back, click another link.. you can't go back to the first link you clicked from within the second.
This situation happens to me daily, and it's very annoying. And don't bet on IE's history cache to be of any help.. It's just shy of worthless.

I never could finish that game.
I really don't see how McDonald's can make money. Their food is horrible!
Personally, if there is a Burger King within 100 miles of a McDonald's, I'll be eating flame broiled that night . .
