Doubt there are many out there who will relate to this, and I wouldnt place it in my top 5 games that really affected my life, but perhaps one of the scariest moments I've played in what seemed to be a trivial game was in Carmageddon.
So you have slowly been working on getting new cars and what not, and you progress to the next level, in which you just have to destroy one car. No problem, right?
Picture driving down a foggy road and then perhaps 30 seconds later a huge 4 story tall dump truck emerges through the fog, and doesnt flinch from its path as it runs right through you.
I think I woke up the whole house in that split second.
Think GTA3 makes you want to hit pedestrians? Play the first two Carmageddons.
I really wish he would partake on the Asimov's Foundation series. I think he's got the standing right now with big studios that they would be willing to offer the budget he would need to get this done.
If any series was not to be destroyed by movies, I wish it would be this one. Please someone do it right.
I don't believe this comment was directed at Microsoft at all. It was just a comment on how every company and their mother is willing to go on witch hunts for anything that they can apply the DMCA to. Just because although Hemos happened to congratulate Microsoft on restraining themselves, but then goes on to complain about how terrible it is that we even need to bother congratulating someone in no way means that this attack was aimed towards Microsoft. Ex:
HEADLINE: Lady spills coffee on self in drive-thru, decides not to sue.
"Lady deserves kudos for this. But it is a sad state of affairs when people deserve kudos for NOT doing things"
Everyone seems to misinterpret where the blame is trying to be placed.
Ill bite... its been a long tradition to post april 1rst jokes on slashdot, you might as well take the day off, by the looks of it, there wasnt an ontopic informative story last year, so dont have your hopes too high.
Its unfortunate, people will stop feeding the bears after they loose a hand, if only we could figure out some consiquence for feeding all these darn trolls.

Don't lable this funny, it couldnt be closer to the truth. I spend whatever time I'm not behind a computer in the so called "punk" scene of WI and it makes me want to cry.
About a year and three months ago I purchased a Porsche 944 off of ebay. And although I was promised a warrenty, the company who handeled the guys warrentys would not provide one for my car. I had transmission problems, muffler problems, air conditioner problems, and brake problems. I had finally given up when a representative from the state of New Jersey called me and informed me they were orgonizing a Class Action Lawsuit against the individual who sold me my car.
This seems the way to go, collect information about the one individual, and bring it to the state. I happen to be fortunate because he forged my signiture several times when providing documents to the state, so I have a very strong case, so perhaps people might not have as good luck as I do.
The downside is I provided all of this information to the state, and it has still been 10 months, and I have not got word on how the case is progressing.
Just to let you all know, last year I was assigned by the school district to "break" into the SASI database and find out as many of the holes as I could. The way SASI is generally run is there are shared read/write directories on an NT server which can be accessed after logging on at a certain security level. Depending on the system, this can be done solely on the client side... (example: on the windows login screen, loggin in with a teacher loggin name, hitting ok with out a password entered, and when it asks for the correct password, pressing cancel) Once you gain rights to access those shared folders, all you have to do is open the files in Excel, and although generally cryptic, you can eventually find out everything about a student. There are much worse things that are stored within the SASI db, including police records, and even complete health records of all students and all teachers. The authors of the SASI program have been notified repeatedly by the techs in our district, but no patch to encrypt or hide this data has been released. Chances are, he gained access in a very simplistic way, and found some files which have large liability issues, and was therefor suspended.
God I hope there was a hint of sarcasm in there. If so, ignore the following:
It is people like you who contribute to all of the problems for people who are considered to be outcasts to society. If Elian wasnt a picture perfect face, was 15 years old, or anything that wouldnt just make you smile just looking at a picture of him, you wouldnt give him a second thought. It is living around people who share your "only the pretty and popular deserve to be happy" attitude that builds up all of my(im not speaking for the rest of us geeks out here, although i hope the understand where im comming from) aggression towards popular society.
I know many of the extinct animals out there are only extinct because humans decided that it would be fun to put bullets into as many as possible of them. What does that have anything to do with nature? If anything, we are the ones who screwed up, and why not use are ALL GREAT technology to actually do something right for a change, and not worry about money, or publicity, or whatever drives the world today, but bring back something that we have destroyed. Do you tell people who want to work on protecting the O-Zone arrogant? This is the same thing, bringing back something that human's natural stupidity destroyed.
Seeing this disturbing news, I think everyone who is worried about this should go check out the Boycott Yahoo Home Page and see what we can do about it.
I suggest that the community sets up a semi-public mp3 server, where people collect mass amounts of mp3s and store them for people to collect. There has to be some loophole that would remove liability for any one person. It would give us an easy way to collect music, and I way to make a statement that this bullshit that RIAA is trying to pull wont change the way we listen to music.
How about all the/.'ers out there make our own call in sick day, and hey, how about we just happen to make it the day of the oppening of the new Star Wars movie. Does that idea sound good to anyone else out there? We could have purpose to ditch work, and have a great time while we do it.
Thanks for all the help everyone, i got a S3 virge card, and now I can run Be and Win98 (just upgraded). I would like to suggest to anyone who has a spare monitor around to get a cheap S3 virge, and run dual monitors. Its a big help, and whenever I use another computer, I dearly miss having a spare place to drag my windows. Apparently, both video cards do not have to be both PCI, I have on monitor running off my FireGL 1000 pro (agp) and another monitor running of my 3S virge/Monster 2 card.
The one problem I did have in the begenning is that my primary monitor was running of the S3 virge, which i had set up on my secondary monitor, so each time I opened a window, it would open to my other monitor. I fixed this by having my 3S virge running with my Monster 3d2, instead of my prefered FireGL/Monster 3d2. It runs well for basic 2d programs and still runs great for games.
I was also wondering if anyone knew if BeOS would run with dual monitors? If anyone has any info on that, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the help.

Is he aware that the advanced GUI tools known as Server Admin Tools are now an optional installation but still completely compatible with 10.7 server?
Please don't mention false positives. Not today.
*weeps*
Before anyone gets overly excited, please remind yourself of what video card your shiny $1k computer is running.
I wish I would have read this article earlier.

This professor was famous on campus for these sets of mp3s that have apparently been praised in some publications.
