  2. Explanation of MafiaBoy on The Cyber Crime Hall of Fame · · Score: 4, Interesting

MafiaBoy At the time of his hack, Mike Calce could only be referred to as MafiaBoy since Canadian laws prevented news outlets from releasing the name of the then teenage super hacker. In February 2000, Calce launched a denial-of-service attack that struck 11 major Web companiesâ"including Amazon, eBay, E*TRADE, and Dellâ"via 75 computers on 52 networks. While there's no hard data to quantify how much monetary damage was done, analyst estimates range as high as $1.7 billion Canadian (that's currently about $1.6 billion U.S). When tried in 2001, Calce was handed a sentence of eight months "open custody," limited Internet use, a small fine, and one year of probation. Ranks For: Scope, Cost

He basically found out how to do a DDOS, which was the first of it's kind. Before that, the main exploits ranged from SMURF.c to PEPSI.c to SLICE3.c (for some reason they were a lot of soft drink names). MafiaBoy went into an irc channel (I am omitting the name) bragging about how he could "down" anything. A few suggestions were made for what at the time were the biggest sites on the web. Once he packeted one, the spectators were unsure that it was really him until he made large website after large website a "404". The rest is history.

They should start the computer up, leave it unplugged, and run prime 95 or some other resource maximizing program to see it's potential. Then do one that does it at around 50% then idle, etc. And do this and average them, or something of the sort. I do agree with the first comment though, marketing the batteries will be weird unless there is news coverage to the general public about the new method of time calculations.

Seriously though, this is nothing compared to what the U.S. (not even the world) could spend to "fix" the problem. That is to say this would fix it completely.

This talks about spontaneous memory recalling. What if it isn't spontaneous and you are trying to recall something, does that matter? Yes it seems to be good for the field especially for dementia, but what if what these people are experiencing is the wrong type of memory recollection and the type they are looking for is stored elsewhere? I guess I am just skeptical about the knowledge about that this "type" of memory has compared to others, if there are others (I assumed there were since it described the recollection as spontaneous instead of just a memory).

But if we did read and find it (such as now) are we going to stop using these services? Probably not.

  12. My disaster Project on Coating a Motherboard In Thermal Resin? · · Score: 1

I figured I'd save a few bucks by doing my own water cooling and using some seals from a hardware store. The problem was that the seal wasn't perfect and it melted to part of my pc. Needless to say, if you are not worried about ruining your hardware, then by all means, go for it. But I would google anything you are trying to do/use and make sure the parts are definitely capable of withstanding the punishment you are about to put on it. If not, your great idea may go to the wayside because of insufficient materials.

If they were able to run the software as a limited login, this would prevent most employees from being able to steal from the owners by not being able to run any program if properly configured. We all know if the employee had enough knowledge and alone time with the machine, passwords can be reset, and the zapper program installed/run, but this should subdue most employees with limited IT knowledge.
